I keep telling myself to watch an Oman match one of these days, it has only been 3 years! Hopefully there will be a better one that the reported dreadful game yesterday. I am told that the quality of Omani football is poor though, so good skilled players but they just cant play as a team. Is that fair?

anyway let's hope they win the GCC cup.

I didn't even know this was taking place until yesterday.

Saw some of the game, in between West Ham vs Man Utd, and Oman really lack a forward. The defence is fairly good but there is a lot of midfield possession that slows play and wastes opportunities. No Ali Al Habsi for this, Wigan said no (The tournament isn't recognised by FIFA and clubs don't have to release players). Maybe Oman are scared to make a mistake and expose their backup goalie?

I play football here, I have friends who play in the Oman League. The standard is decent at local level but something happens between playing for fun and playing for a proper club. The skill is almost coached out of them. Instead there is a focus on hard running and training as if it is the army. How about: less running, more training with a ball! More composure in front of goal, better decision making. My experience is that the players will take shots from silly positions and the crowd cheers, encouraging them to do it again instead of actually scoring.. the crowd wants to see action rather than GOOD action.

Paul Le Guen says the performance yesterday wasn't very good. There will be another game soon though...

yesterdays performance was a full on defensive strategy, you would notice that with not much action from either goalkeepers... I agree that the game play was poor and sad to say that it has only been going down year after year... all we can do is hope to see them step up their game...

also our star goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi was not able to attend this years Gulf Cup as his team Wigan did not release him. I hope this does not affect our team spirit or morals...

On the other hand, the next game between Qatar and UAE showed a healthy amount of goals with the UAE coming on top 3 - 1

This is only the opening games lets wait and see how the games flow with the rest of the tournament...

The Omani team's performance was not that good from what I hear from my friends. I personally didnt see the match because I didnt even knew that the Gulf Cup had started!!!

Anyhow, the tournament just started and am wishing all the best for our team.

Well i finally watched a whole oman game. A disappointing result for oman and they should have won, but a very poor standard of football. I am sure the coaches of both sides re paid a shit load of money but you would have thought they would prefer to coach at a higher level than scrappy, amateur GCC level. God help us with the 2020 world cup! Cant even get decent crowds when it is a bit cooler.

I watched the match today at home!! Oman played good but just were not so lucky ... the players missed a lot of chances that they should have scored..

the qatari keeper was quiet decent.. also the referee was confused the whole match !! omg !!

I predict it will be Kuwait and Iraq in the finals.

Despite them winning today If Kuwait continues to plays this way I'm not so sure they'll even make it to the finals.. Wishful thinking says Yes they will! Enshallah they'll up their game for the semi finals!

I guess that makes Iraq the team to beat. :P

I agree. The standard was low but they were the better side. They simply cant score though. The omani number 10 was however particularly useless. I think he was the stand in for al habsi as captain.

Crap game. Nice goal though, and with so little time for Kuwait to come back. The standard of play is akin to a kid's game where there is no strategy, just get the ball forward as quickly as possible.

Mashallah I was impressed with Bahrain last night.. I truly believe they deserve to be in the finals but luck was not in their corner.. *Sad face*

It could be anybodys game.. The way they've been playing makes me think it's more luck than skill..

    Good luck to both teams!

Congratulations to the UAE for taking the cup!!

They really played good this year and I think they deserve it.

As for Bahrain's lost to Kuwait for the third place...6 goals on them...that was just too much

    Thanks Gypsy

Yayyy~ Congrats UAE!! They played well.. Omar was fun to watch, he controls the ball like no other.. But for the love of life I really wanted to do something with that hair of his.. Maybe a nice fade? Lol
