    Omantel's New Internet Packages!

Awesome packages!! And reasonable prices (For now).

I would definitely try to get the E package.

They should have the new offers available on their website perhaps from tomorrow, also should become effective by tomorrow or the next few days!

NEW: Package details on Omantel's website

What does everyone think about this news?

ADSL technique is such a looser one. You can benefit it only if you were living in Muscat.

What about Oman the Internal regions, where I am still using EDGE ancient connection to

    the Internet?

Did you think about that dear Omantel?

I am very proud and happy to see that Oman is finally doing what other countries do.

Might as well talk to the family about this and see what they say. This will save people lots of money and make them happy!

Ok, now after all the happy moments, back to reality. Most of these speeds still depends on:
    1) How close the house/building is from Omantel's Telephone Exchange point.
    2) The lines/connection capacity these points can handle.

Now if Omantel did not upgrade or increase these exchange points. All this nice speeds are just an offer on paper. Also as Urahara Kisuke mentioned, ADSL is still not widely available out of Muscat.

Therefore, perhaps they are highly depending on the Fibre to the Home (FTTH) project, which the sewage project is implementing as they are implementing the sewage system (yet again only in Muscat as far as I am aware). Or they are just pulling one big advertisement stunt! (Which will obviously fail once everyone realizes they can't get the high speeds).

Again, I really hope they have prepared and continuously preparing and implementing the infrastructure that can handle these packages and have a clear plan to expand all through Oman, if not with ADSL then with at least better alternatives then the EDGE.

Personally, will try to get package E, which wil give me a speed of 8-12 Mbps for OMR 35.

Too good to be true….If that is the case, then I will defiantly move to Omantel ASAP.
At the moment, we are paying RO 35, the WiMAX Platinum Nawras package …..getting 20GB download per month and the speed sucks big time.
While the same price with Omantel I will get, 16Mbps-24Mbps download speed and unlimited…woooooow

    *rubs eyes* really?
Sounds fishy..am looking of 'the catch' and still unable to find it!

Plan C looks reasonable, we'll pay 20 RO per month and get 4mb speed + unlimited download + 100 minutes of talk time!

Finally good news from Omantel, what where they waiting for?

At least there are unlimited offers starting from 20 rials. Look at the difference from the earlier offer 99 rial and the current 60 rial, where they....?

How can I know if my location got the fiber optic connectivity for the 40 Mbps?

And it was about time for me to cancel my stupid Nawras wireless connection because it's never connected. Clever, finally we broke that limit barrier!

Not sure what location has to do with limit ... performance I can understand.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, your building/house location to the nearest exchange point of Omantel makes all the difference; since the close you are the higher chances of the speed you can get. On the other hand the more crowded the location is the less chance of getting available lines.

So at the end the whole thing depend on the exhange points.

The distance from the local telephone exchange and length of the copper wire from the address to the exchange is one of the factors that effects the net speed.

That's how the "High Speed Broadband" Technology works.

    A right location
must have fiber optic connectivity and is close to a telephone exchanger tower!

    Yes ... all performance issues.

I guess it's one in the same kinda. If you have bad performance with your connection you are limited in what you can do.
