Do feet shrink or get bigger as we get older?

Ok this may sound silly, but I do really think my feet have shrank, I used to be a size 40. I am now around 38-37. I canít wear any of my old ones now, as my long funny toes stick out when I wear an open toe shoes. I hate to wear a closed one, they hurt and puts pressure on my soft toes. No matter how expensive brand of shoes I wear, it always leaves marks on my little toes.

The funny thing is, my feet look the same in length, but they just sink into the shoe?

Why this is happening, I mean itís not the same like, wearing bras to prevent further sagging, what is it there to sag

But I also noticed my brotherís feet are getting bigger every year.

    -------------------------------------------------

    - Do you think feet shrink or get bigger as we get older?

    - It is a gender thing?

I know this sound funny, but how can I prevent it from shrinking?
I donít want to end up looking for a shoes in childrenís section

    - Anybody else experiencing this?

I have a question too; do our feet grow/shrink when we gain or lose weight?
Fashionably sensitive, but too cool to care.

it grows till we get to a certain age right .. like now , i don't think my feet will grow any further , it will stay 37 , like my moms size too !

    i wear 3 sizes = 36,37 and 38 .. it's different with the brand =) but mostly it's 37 / 5

r u sure your feet shrunk ? maybe your shoes got wider

I donít think it has anything to do with gaining/losing weight. I guess!?
I was skinny when I was younger, and I was a size 40.

that sounds weird .. maybe you lost some weight recently .. or you're walking much more now .. thats why your real shoe size appeared which is 37-38 .. but before maybe your feet were chubbier =P

In general the feet size will be reduced when you lose weight.

When you buy shoes, the size may not be the same as it says, for example, if you bought size 8 of one brand, it may not be the same as size 8 of other, it might be slightly smaller or bigger. Thats why you see these variations

Then you probably have a medical condition. It could be diet related, you need to check if there is any recent change in your diet. But I strongly suggest you pay a visit to your physician.

    Maybe this could explain it:

Depending on the weather, your feet shrink and expand. In summer, your feet are bigger and in winter they are smaller. (With heat, things expand, with cold, things shrink).

Maybe this is why you used to be size 40 and now you're a 37-38.

There is nothing (according to my knowlegde) that says your feet actually become smaller and smaller. And they don't keep growing.

Also keep in mind, it depends on the shoe. Sometimes a size 40 Milano shoe may fit you and some other brand size 38 might fit you.

Maybe all of you is shrinking? Have you taken any magic potions or talked to a girl called Alice recently?

    1- Inconsistency between brands

2- Marked weight loss (fat & muscle loss)

3- Loss of bone density due to an osteoporotic process
