Martial Arts (Tae Kwon Do) in Oman

I have been doing martial arts since i was 9 and am completely devoted to it. And i must say that in Muscat there are allot of very good Martial Artists males as well as females.

P.S: Martial Arts is self defense techniques like Karate and Kung fu

When i first joined the Harib Tae Kwon Do Academy in Al Khuwair i came across allot of these experts who did all sorts of cool kicks and moves. I was also surprised to see Omani girls who were also very good at this sport and who could really kick hard. I used to be trained with a Korean before and never knew of the other martial arts clubs in Oman.

So which other martial arts or clubs are open in Muscat??
And if you are a martial artist tell us about your art, where you practise and your club :)

A Korean? I'm curious, is his name Yu? Master Yu? Anyways, I used to take Tae kwon do lessons too, but its been a while since I've last streched my leg muscles & kicked thin air. There's a Kickboxing dojo in the CBD area. I don't know where its located, but I've got their number. I've had their number for a while now & they could've changed it for all I know. Give it a shot, their number is 9554051. But don't blame me if they've changed it.

Maste Yu

Master Yu was actually my master's master. He went back to Korea a long time ago. That guy was really a proffesional. Although he was in his 50's but he was really energatic

I think i will stick to Tae Kwon Do .. Thanks anyway

Hey maybe we should have a little sparing (Fight) some time .. what do you way .. lol

Yeah, I know. I was a pupil of Harub's too. I left right after I got a blue belt cuz it wasn't challenging for me anymore.

No thanks dude. It's been a while since I've broken some bones & tottaly disfigured some faces  . I can execute some of the kicks I've trained myself to do back then, but not with the same speed & agility I used to have.

Hey there's a place in Al-Ghubra that teaches Hoi Jeon Moo Sool (I think thats how its spelled!). Its a form of Martial Arts as well, pretty cool from what I've seen.

They're going to Mexico in about a week for a worldwide competition.

I've always wanted to learn martial arts but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Yeah you spelt it right Anigma .. I know about that club and i acutally have a friend who goes their as well as practise with us Tae Kwon Do. He is also going to Mexico with them. It sure is going to be an exiting experience for them and i wish them all the best. I sure hope that they will come back with a gold for :flag:

I really incourage you to join a martial arts club wither its the Hoi Jeon Moo Sool or Tae Kwon Do club with us. Basically these two along with the Karate club in al khuwair are the best martial arts teaching club in Muscat as far as i know

All the best :)

Tae Kwon Do - preparing for my Red Belt test. I hope to get my Black Belt about a year from now. After that, I'd like to study Aikido or Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

I study under Master Jong Cho a former Korean Tiger Team Captain.

Ah, merely adequate. :hmm: Biggest problem is hip flexibility - at 43 I'm just not making as much progress towards being able to do a leg splits as I had hoped (and had been able to do when younger).

Practice, practice, practice - so much of any good Roundhouse kick and spinning kicks requires excellent hip flexibility - though my spinning back kicks are OK (already had to perform for current belt test).

Currently learning Tae Geuk Chil Jang -

I do wish we did more sparring - especially competition sparring at the school I attend.

You and I seem to have the same attitude about sparring - enough practice already, let's DO it !! You can never have too much sparring :hbd:

Where are you in your training and do you like other styles too ?

Well i was doing Tae kwon Do ever since i was nine but allways quit after some time for a year or two then come back, because of issues like moving from one location to an other and higher education. But now things are pretty stable after i started working and soon graduating.

Am in the Yellow belt 3 right now. I love sparring. My only weekness is the ground (no jumping) back kick for i dont use it so much but happens to be one of the most effective kicks in sparring. But i am good at the jumping back kick.

All kicks using my left leg are pretty good. My weekness is the right leg

Yeah we should meet, practise and spare together some time. Same goes for you too BrAiKi

I'd like to study Aikido.......

I started Akido here in Japan.......at Tenshin Dojo in Osaka....under the sensei, Steven Seagel......at that time a 5th dan Akido teacher., I received my Shodan (black belt).after 2 years of getting hammered by midget giggly little Japanese girls.....and received training also in Japanese weapons training from Steve.....like throwing knives and stuff......

After Steve left in 1981 for the fame and forture.....in Holywood.....I trained with Kinoshita sensei( at the age of 83) in Kyodo......basically Zen archery......it's nice to be able to put an arrow in someone at 100 yards......less messy then all those roundhouse flying kicks.....

Akido is very effective......and has a really nice philosophy behind it.....where it teaches you maintain balance and harmony from within.......

Im a big fan of boxing, tai chi and shaolin.

I used to do training for boxing, but my speed decreased because of weight lifting. But i am interested in tai chi and shaolin. Any academies in oman for all these including boxing?

Awesome. I'd like to study Aikido, but the choices are somewhat limited in this area.

I think it's important to learn more than Karate or Tae Kwon Do, because they don't seem to address much of the "less violent" methods of controlling a situation. Punching and kicking are not always appropriate responses.

Wow a sight about Teakwondo..great...When I joned for Teakwondo it was:
oh God what am I doing over here...I felt heavy in all the ways I could think of..My best sports was just walking on the beach..I did not even run...So joining Teakwondo was a challenge, especially I started late..being over 25, was hard to cope up with everything .....

I did feel shy at first being a girl at that time teakwondo was in city centre and only one girl I recall was there..I thought I will quit for sure...I need to loose the 3 kg that I could not get rid off and I will stop...

I never knew that once you start Teakwondo , it takes you in - it becomes away of life...What I love about Harib Teawondo Club, the respect that you get and no one laughs at you no matter how bad you are..and I was so bad...still I am at times like I can not lift my legs for certain kicks but Im somehow geting there...Everyday I learn new things, Im also keen to learn more about the teakwondo teaching not only physical one the spiritual side of it..like being humble, the love of the your country, the respect and so on...Sometime the job and my projects do take me away, but everyday I look forward being there...
