Alhamdulillah recently i've been blessed with a baby girl and I named her Maryam after the most pious woman in history Maryam as ( mother of Issa as/ Jesus as)... My Mom told me that the name Maryam is good but she had to go through a lotta hardship and maybe my daughter will also go through a lotta hardship just because the name.. Subhanallah.. I dint take it seriously and just prayed to the Almighty to keep my daughter safe and maybe its just an old belief..
We were in Badr Samaa for a weekly visit to the pediatrician, who had asked us to visit him regularly until the baby hits the 3 kgs mark. So he said that the eyes seem to be still yellow and maybe we'll have to do blood test again to ensure the billirubin level in the blood is normal and the baby doesnt have a high level of Jaundice.
Incase you are wondering some babies have jaundice by birth and it reduces off as they grow in days..

So when he talked about blood test my wife and mom panicked, cause the last time they did the test for my daughter the sisters (hospital staff) really messed up.. They pricked her twice and after extracting the blood they stuck the bandaid a few inches away from the actual point where they had pricked.
Really unprofessional...
We finally refused to the blood test and left the place with a little advice from the Doctor.
A lotta people have been praisin Atlas Hospital and we decided to pay a visit to the pediatrician there.. When we visited him, he asked us to do the blood test immediately, so we were worried again but this time decided to go for it. When the results came we were informed that the bilirubin level was too high and hence they repeated the test. The result was same again and the Doc. informed us that the level is 35.xx mg/dl where as normal should be below 10 mg/dl and referred us to the Royal Hospital immediately.

So our worries increased ..... We entered the Royal Hospital and the doctors examined her and suggested they would have to do a blood test again as they do not believe in the report from Atlas as it didnt seem tht the bilirubin level was so high. More pain for my poor daughter, But as they say if a little pain brings about more good then you'll have to go for it and hence we did the blood test.. To our relief we discovered that the actual level is only 20-21 mg/dl and the report from ATLAS MEDICAL CENTRE was highly exaggerated, we were misguided..crapp...We breath a seigh of relief, But not for long as 21 mg/dl is still a high level but not as high as 30s mg/dl...
They decided to admit her and as we are expats we were expected to go meet the cashier first as he had already kept my ID card as a security so that i run away without paying the bills..Funny people.. When we met the cashier and we informed him that the patient has to be admitted he rudely asked for a deposit of 300 R.O. I was like wat the F*%k?? He was so presistent that he refused to return my ID card until i pay the deposit.. Really bad treatment for the expats I must say.I really didnt expect such a treatment in a hospital like ROYAL HOSPITAL.. Luckily my brother the had cash at the moment and he helped me out and paid the cashier 200/- which he accepted. May the Almighty reward my brother and make things easy for him..inshallah.
My daughter was diagnosed with Photo therapy for two days after which the Bilirubin level came down to 18mg/dl... Though it was still high but the Doctors decided to dischage her and asked us to do a blood test again in 24 hrs at any private clinic.
The next day we decided to go back to the Good Old Badr As Samaa- Al Khodh and visted the same old pediatrician who asked us to do the blood test immediately... This time the level had increased to 19mg/dl... The doctor showed signs of disagreement with the decision of the doctors at the Royal Hospital to discharge my daughter at the level of 18mg/dl..Again confusing us and diagnosed the poor little girl to the photo therapy once more...
Incase you are wondering what photo therapy is, Its just like lying under the Sun with your eyes covered....They use UV tubelights and keep the baby under it with her eyes covered...Trust me when i say this no baby likes that treatment.. They get really really irritated and my daughter was no different.

So my sweet little daughter was under the photo therapy for the next 36 hours after which the bilirubin levels had come down to about 11mg/dl which the doctor said is the safe zone and discharged her.
Meanwhil due to so much exposure to heat my daughter developed rashes on her face and was really suffering with pain and irritation combined.
We reached home and decided to clean the rashes with rose water and apply the cream which the doc. had prescribed.. But the rashes were still increasing and she was crying frequently. When we got back to the Doctor the next day they said the baby has got some allergy with baby oil and prescribed another cream.. Alhamdulillah after applying that she has felt a bit of relief now and is having a sound sleep .
I felt really sad not just because we were bounced from hospital to hospital like fools, not because the financial expenses were really high in this run BUT mainly because the pain the poor kid had to go through..
Please do pray for her, that she gets well soon and be careful with hospitals in town...

Hmm I've been to 33 countries so far, explored their cities and neighborhoods to the cores .... and I came to the conclusion :

that I could not think of any other countries in this world that can beat the quality of life in Oman ! :)

Oman is truly a heaven- cities and towns are brand-new, most locals live in luxurious spacious and comfortable homes, life is so easy and so great, there is slow-paced living , Omanis and expats alike are generally extremely hospitable and they are very open/global-thinking, food is extremely tasty and diversed while the most important of all I was amazed at the diversity of people in Oman..... there are so many expats while Omanis are made up from many different backgrounds. Wonderfully colourful society ! :)

Not to offend anyone though, but I've traveled across Europe but am not a fan of old-world and cold weather . I've been to USA too but not impressed at all, it's an old-world and I was shocked that many neighborhoods are rundown with dull lifestyle ; it's not a country as potrayed in Hollywood or TV programs; in fact I don't know why are people visiting USA in droves.

East and Southeast Asia are brand-new world but coming from this region I must say people in this part of the world are generally too local-minded and ignorant about outside world, thus its extremely depressing living in such society.

Australia with its too isolated location while Canada with cold weather. Both have no social life like in the Gulf.

But Oman ?

Oman is not perfect- internet is slow, unemployment among locals is relatively high and driving can be dangerous-
but at least it has no major "discrepancies" like in all other countries . I actually adore other GCC countries ex-Saudi Arabia but they lack natural beauty and competition is stiff since there are many professionals living in UAE, Qatar, Bahrain or Kuwait. In Oman you have beautiful mountains, serene beaches and slow-paced easygoing life . I must say that for tourism, I prefer Yemen than Oman since there are more attractions there, but for living, Oman is definitely the place :)

You guys are extremely lucky to be born in Oman :) I cannot think of any other countries in this world that can match the living standards there . Thanks to Sultan Qaboos that has built the country from scratch just 40 years ago to the BEST among the BEST of countries to live in today !!

I don't know if anyone here shares the same feeling as me :)

By Yahya al Na’abi - MUSCAT — Seventy seven days left :pfor the opening of Muscat Expressway, which is considered as one of the giant projects that would be opened to coincide with the Sultanate’s 40th National Day. The Muscat Expressway comes in implementation of Royal directives to build a basic structure to boost and ease the life of the individual.

The Muscat Municipality lent great attention and exerted relentless efforts to design the Muscat Expressway in accordance with the best international specifications in high-speed road building. The Muscat Expressway contains high bridges which match the standard of world bridges as to the perfection of design and quality. As a divided highway, it encompasses three tracks for traffic in each side in addition to high interchanges that would allow a smooth flow without interruption of traffic.

There are also additional extensions from the Expressway whose length reaches 112 km. The project works to connect several wilayats with each other and open new horizons for areas unfamiliar before for both citizen and residents. The Muscat Expressway is an important alternative that alleviates traffic congestion and connects Muscat with Al Batinah through a vital road that also leads to the interior and Sharqiyah regions. The Muscat Expressway also reveals a new architectural outlook of the city.

The Expressway will assist in the country’s economic development process for the fact that it joins roads that are leading to the industrial areas in Ghala and Rusayil as well as some other places where numerous private establishments and commercial companies are located.

Driving through the 53-km Muscat Expressway, the motorist may discover the advantages of the highway represented in the easy access to new residential areas. Due to the adverse weather conditions the Sultanate experienced, the Expressway is designed to resist natural and climatic conditions and provided with technical protection that would ensure durability.

Summarized quotes from the article:
- 25 commuter stations and intercity stations along the route of the network.

- Roughly 1,000-kilometre-long rail system extending from Khatmat Malaha on Oman’s border with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), to Duqm on the Wusta coast, has already been finalised.

-Four sections, with priority likely to be accorded to two key sections — one extending north from Muscat to the Port of Sohar, and the other running south from Muscat to Duqm.

- According to officials, a total of eight commuter stations are envisioned along the 280-kilometre rail line from Muscat to Sohar Port.

- These are proposed to be built at Al Misfah (near Rusayl), Al Abyath, Al Hazm, Al Hur, Al Khabourah, Daqal, Saham and Sohar Port. Importantly, three intercity stations are planned as well at Muscat, Barka and Sohar City.

- Furthermore, six commuter stations are proposed along the 520-kilometre-long rail line that will run south from Muscat to Duqm. These are envisaged at Bid Bid, Samayil, Izki, Ibra, Sinaw and Mahout, while a major intercity station will be built at the industrial port city of Duqm.

-The third section of the rail network — a roughly 150-kilometre branch line extending from Sohar to Buraimi — will feature two commuter stations at Wadi al Jizzi and Sunainah, with a full-fledged intercity station envisioned at Buraimi. Four commuter stations are also planned on the fourth section that runs north from Sohar to Khatmat Malaha. These stations will come up at Liwa, Shinas, Al Aqar and Khatmat Malaha.

- The Supreme Committee for Town Planning (SCTP) is the lead agency responsible for the development and implementation of the country’s national rail transportation system. More than 30 engineering consultants have already registered to prequalify for a contract to provide engineering design and supervision consultancy services for the project.

- A joint venture team of experts representing Systra Consulting of France and the National Engineering Office (NEO) of the Sultanate has already completed a study of the design requirements for the National Railway project.

-Will comprise a double track, standard-gauge (1,435mm) system with provision made for the introduction of high-speed trains, with speeds of up to 350 kilometres per hour (kph), in the future. Initially, however, passenger trains will be operated at speeds of 200 kph, while freight trains will run at speeds ranging from 80 to 120 kph.

- The trains will run on electrical power, supplied through overhead electrical infrastructure that will be built along the length of the network.

- The rail system will form part of a planned Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) rail network connecting Oman with the UAE and other Gulf countries.
The project is expected to be completed in 2017 and the government is seeking to award the construction of the projects in three phases.

"We will invite three separate construction tenders next year. The plan is to award the tenders in 2012 and all three construction phases scheduled to complete in 2017," the finance ministry official said. Reference

So we should expect it to start by 2012 and finish by 2017 that sounds promising, though it sounds like a long time, however if it is all done well then it will have quite a huge impact once ready.

I expect the project to trigger land and property prices up or down, especially those near to it.
