I am quite concerned about the amount of coffee a person can take daily.
What other uses of coffee are there apart from keeping you alert?
Does the traditional coffee we have in Oman differ in it's side effects?
Is it healthy to drink one cup of coffee a day? and can this be called addiction?
Coffee coffee coffee, I believe in cold countries, coffee makes a difference by keeping you warm, although i'm afraid i can turn into a coffeeholic if i continue this way.
ROFL!!!
Rest assured Tunester, you are by no means an addict.
I used to drink a minimum of 3 cups of coffee a day, in addition to Coke or Pepsi, and the occasional Red Bull (all of which contain caffeine), as well as chain smoke, and I still didnt regard myself an addict.
Dont worry just yet, dear. Youre still ok.:D
I read once that Coffee is useful for female menstrual problems.. sth like that.. this is what i could undertsand.. and a cup in the morning will help those suffering from constipation..

But i know ppl who are really addicted to coffee..what i would like to know is how bad or good is it for you?
well coffee , the chemical substance that makes it special is caffiene which is a xanthine dervitive compound..
these has special action in teh body to inhibit adenyl cyclase ( one of teh enzyme in body cells) and this will lead to low level of cAMP which is a second messenger leading to many effect within the body..
sorry this introduction to make u confused..
but anyway other action of caffiene is that it relaxes smooth muscle in teh body ...therefore theophillin which is same as caffiene is used to treat asthma because in asthma smooth muscle of airway are contracted thus narrowing the diameter of airway and theophillin relaxes these muscle and relieve asthma..
i hope evrybody saw the new movie trappted or intrappted ( not sure of its name) where the small baby did not have asthma drugs so she used coffee to relieve her attack.
actualy there is an interesting threda in helath and education sabla about teh differnce between tea and coffee?
and following questiones were answered :
is there difference in the effect of cafiene wether u get it from tea or coffee??
which conytains more caffiene???
and is there a different between the tea and coffee cafiene...??
why people who are addicted to caffiene feel the effect of tea/coffee mostly at early morning.... ?????
check teh following thread
coffee/tea difference (http://www.englishsabla.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=6634)
but coffee is very important thing for some ppl like my mom........:p ........ she have to drink 5 cups a day ..........
any way i heared that coffee reduces the amount of blood in the body despite making it awake and unsleepy.......
yeap u are right maha
tea reduces teh absorbtion of iron in the gut because of tennate( sorry not sure of te name but i will check it)..
this si why pregnant women who are talking iron tablets are not adviced to take coffee plus they are adviced to take lemon juce with teh tablet because vitaminC increases iron absorbtion... because it reduces ferreic (Fe+3) TO FERROUS (Fe2+)

Opss I guess I meant to say Green tea aids in removing toxins from the body, sorry for not being precise :)
I am not sure if this is true though..
actually silent tune,, when u come to the field of herbal medicine.. u will be confused because what happens is that he autor write alot of benifits but without any evidence .. sometime those benifits are general u will find them in any foood not specfically that foood..
and regarding the tea it is same .. check this

I can see a lot of tea in this thread :p.
Coffee is good I like it too, but I like to drink it with Omani dates, like in the sablah :)

It would seem just plain wrong to have this thread without me.
I own at least 4 coffee making devices.
I drink a coffee per hour. I am going to get a cup now.
I was wondering an observation I've noticed in the West and that is alcohol consumers... seem to drink lots of coffee the following day... I wonder if there is a link in compating the effects of a hangover?
yeah yeah , seem wander u are coffee holic,, from ur teeth
am not a big coffee drinker , but am addicted to coke! is it the same as being addicted to coffee?? i suppose both have Caffeine or am i wrong?
ohh ohh B-I in healtha nd education.. what a lucky watery day:p ..
B-I , i know u hate me when i go explaining things specially the frictional forces while playing bowling :gap but yallah i will answer ur question :
teh way which coke and fizzy drinks are addictive is due to their effct on tongue sensation...
fizzy drinks are made of dissolved carbon dioxide(CO2), and the human tongue has and enzyme called carbonic anhydrase which converts carbon dioxide to bicarbonic acid ( H2CO3) and this acid causes a mild pain in teh tongue which is teh source of pleasure .. like u keep itching ur self sometime...
taste is also another factor whcih makes u an addict.
an intresting phenomenon, patients taking carbonic anhydrase inhibitor drugs ( a diuretic drug to make u lose urine) don't have the same feeling of drinking fizzy drinks as without teh drug...
i love chocolates and cant live without it so am i chocoholic.........
