It sucks

here is my story wishing to here different points of view :

my father is from africa and my mother is omani
coz of some problem they get divorced about 6 yr ago to this point every thing is normal but

my mother came back to oman and my father stayed in africa
i stayed with him and my younger sister went with my mother .
my father died 2 yrs ago and so i decided to travel to oman to be with my mother and sister . and my sis has the omani nationalit as she was born there.

i been there for about one yr and asked for oman pass port as my mother is omani but unforunately i was shocked by those people in charge and i gave up trying and moved to Norway to stay with my uncle .

Is there anyway i can get the passport so i can stay in oman 4ever and work there ?

what are the requirments so i can get it ?

i'm not sure..but i heard that you have to live here for more than 20 years or so in order to get the omani nationality!

I couldn’t believe that you post your story over here Mrhon, I’m sure you’ll get no use from posting it. They will not give it to you neither to me or our family.
I really gave up.
In fact I love Oman so much and I’d love to spend the rest of my life over there, but….., they don’t want us to be with them, even if we are originally Omani. What a shame….
May be, if we have a Wasta we would be able to get the passport….

That is really sad... and I am sorry for the system that doesn't look at the person's circumstances ... there should be a way out .. this is sooooooooooo unfair!! Passports are given to so many non-omanis why can't an Omani get a passport.... I can't understand!!!

I am really not sure, but I heard they've been looking over this issue and reviweing it.

I will try and ask about the rules concerning this matter.

I am afraid I couldn't find anything that is associated with your case in the ROP (Royal Oman Police) website.

However, I will paste you the ROP link, you can ask about your inquiries, hoping it'll benefit you.

Here you go: http://www.rop.gov.om

well this thing has no wasta in it,,, and its not that omani's dont want you all,, well as i know is that if you r not omani u have to stay in oman for 20 years not more to get the nationality, sometimes less than 20 years, and it has nothing to do with wasta,,, and about the point that oman doesnt want u,, well why r u so negative about this point coz its not as simple as that if you love oman you get a nationality,, there are millions of ppl whome love oman but its not as simple as that,, and anyone whos his mother is omani and his dad isnt shall go to the diwan i think to view his case for study and it has to get approved by his majesty so its not just simple... we all want u here in oman :)

Well what a shame that u are finding such difficulties...but i would liek to udnerstnad why getting a nationality is so hard?!

Sorry Mrhoon to hear your situation, but know that you are not alone to suffer from that.

I do not understand too why it is so hard to get the Omani nationality, especially when one of your parents is already Omani. I don't believe that "wasta" (connection) is the answer. My husband's half brother and half sister, who are originally from Tanzania but with an Omani mother, are still waiting to get their own passports...it's been now more than 20 years! There is wasta but still it is not enough and the government makes it extremely difficult for some to get the nationality and easy for others with big time $$$$$$...why :lost:

Salam Guys,

I think i have something to add to this topic ..

I heared (from a trusted source) is that policy is the main reason for lots of you guys (originally from Oman) not to get Omani passports.
The policy is that they want the omani existance stay in zanzibar ,.....as simple as that !

They say when you see Marhoon and 5amees together avoid trouble. I think this story is made up. If I only could answer this question then I would belive it " what is the probablility that Marhoon and 5amees is having the same problem at the same place?"

well all what u guys think of is wasta,, ok lets say there might be wasta in other departments, but this surely cant have wasta in it, coz this is someone coming wanting a nationality,, it takes about 3 to 4 years if one of your parents is omani, coz the case has to be studied and these sorts of things...

Very simple my legend, Mrhon is my cousin, he’s staying with us now and we all have the same problem.
If you don’t know anything or if you don’t know any thing or you don’t have anything to say, so please keep quiet and don’t tell lies …ok

Guys believe us, we tried many many times to get the passport but we couldn’t. I’m sure there is no way at all…. I do feel so sorry for this but there is nothing I can do.
Anyhow, thank you so much for your attention and for caring, I do appreciate it.

No Snow Lady, I didn't get the Omani passport as I never asked for one. I am holding an american passport and can travel the world without visa...so for that it is the best! If I applied for an Omani passport, I will not gain more than what I have now...plus the country doesn't accept dual citizenship!

devil, if it has nothing to do with $$$ why was the asian nationals who invest so much in this country (no need to mention names) got the Omani passport right away, so their children?

I didn't say that we need a lots of $$$ to get the passport, though we know very well that, wasta or no wasta, nothing is for free....

from your sister, X-p ;)

may be you both don't deserve the Omani passport as simple as that. If the officials saw that you deserve it (the omani passport that is) then they would have noticed that and gave it to you. Africa is becoming the Tijuana of Oman.

X-press
03-12-02, 02:04 AM
...excuse me 6Sigma, who are you talking to when you say "you both"?

Do you really believe that getting an Omani passport is as simple as that? We deserve it, we get it? No my friend.

6Sigma
03-12-02, 05:57 AM
First of all the "deserve" it word is not simple as you might be taking it. To deserve it you have to meet certain certeria, and the officials saw that you don't meet that certeria. Consequently your request is denied. That's the whole truth in it. Now if the country sees a good candidate in a forigener (again based on the established certeria) then he shall get the citizenship. Money could be a factor.

with both I meant Khamees and Marhoon Miss american pie not you.

Oh yeah right !!!!

The creteria you are talking about is applied to those (wastaless) only ,,.
Needless to say that wasta is basic factor ,,and more influence you have , easier it become to get the nationality .

As x-press mentioned those who own companies and factories got it easily even easier than you can imagine .

Unless you meant wasta by creteria then yeah you are right ,,when officials see that wasta is enough then at this point this person deserve the nationality !!

BTW you can not judge if they deserve it or not !!

6Sigma
03-12-02, 10:40 PM
daaaaaah of course those who have money will be prefered for the citizenship. They will be a great help for the country, while poor people will be a liability only. Even advanced countries do that.

well x-press, as u know and i know and everyone knows, the asian person who got the passprt, he got it just a while ago, not more that 2 years back, and that his grandfather was in oman and his father and now him, third generation,,, and whoever thinks its wasta, fine, take it as u take it...

Exxy,
the Asian person you are talking about, was in Oman even before Many Omanis were here. The history of thier family being in Oman goes back to 200 years back. So simply, he is an Omani even if he chose to keep his culture. Much like the whites in South Africa and the Arabs in the USA!

It is easy for people to blame wasta when they dont get what they want. Yes maybe sometimes things go by Wasta, but people who are talking aginst it are the first one to use it. So, if you claim that something is wrong, stop using it first!!!
I am not in favor of wasta, but I feel that people started using it as a hanger of everything that goes wrong in thier lives, and am very much aginst that too!!

Question, does this mean if a non-omani opens a factory or make a big business in Oman, then he/she will get the passport without staying for 20-25 years in Oman??

Snow^Lady

Lets say you didn't live for 200 years but you made a very good investment for Oman. Will you get passport?

Another question, when an Omani female marries non-omani, will the government take her omani passport?

Snowlady, I think exceptions could be made from HM.
about a female Omani losing her passport, as far as I know that both males and females lose thier passports if they married a non omani without permission.

i'm absolutely shocked :eyes: :eyes: :eyes: :eyes:

i mean with a name like Mrhoon you gotta be Omani. wasn't there a royal decree few years back stating that any person called Khalfan or Marhoon is automaticly Omani.
i know this Chinese guy who changed his name to Khalfan to get the Omani Nationality.
