Powdered cocaine and its derivatives, rock and crack

Cocaine is produced as a white chunky powder and is often called coke, blow, white, snow, snort, flake, nose candy, hubba, or cane. It is said most often in aluminum foil, plastic or paper packets, or small vials. Cocaine is usually chopped into a fine powder with a razor blade on a small mirror or some other hard surface, arranged into small rows called "lines," then quickly inhaled (or "snorted") through the nose with a short straw or rolled up paper money. It can also be injected into the blood stream.

Cocaine paraphernalia, including scales dealers use to weigh the drug, and mirrors and razor blades used for preparing the drug before inhaling

Paraphernalia associated with inhaling cocaine include mirrors, razor blades, straws, and rolled paper money, while paraphernalia associated with injecting the drug include syringes, needles, spoons, and belts, bandanas or surgical tubing used to constrict the veins. Scales are used by dealers to weigh the drug. Sometimes substances such as baking soda or mannitol are used to "cut" cocaine in order to dilute the drug and increase the quantity of the drug for sale.

Cocaine powder is sold in plastic bags, glass vials, or in small cellophane or paper packets

The high from a typical inhaled dose of cocaine lasts for about 20 minutes. During this time your teenager may appear very alert, confident, energetic, and stimulated; physical signs include dilated eyes and a runny nose, and little or no appetite. The high from cocaine is followed by profound depression, an intense desire for another dose of the drug, mental fatigue, restlessness, and irritability. An overdose of cocaine can cause extreme agitation, respiratory failure, heart failure, or death.

It's been a big problem in Oman now.. we've heard and read about many stories.. It's so sad..

I wonder what are the signs of someone who's addicted to drugs?

drugs have differnt effect according to teh does taken..
if taken in moderate amount it gives rise to symtoms of euphoria ( pleasure).. but if they are taken in much greater amount they give rise to mainly CNS symptoms..

one of teh known chemical which give to problem is toluene , which affect the cerebellum and this gives to tremor ( shaking), cerebellar ataxia ( imbalance)... and these damages are irreversible once u have them u will remain like that

but we can help these youth to stop taking more drugs ....... by travelling with them to other countries and let them forget about drug ....... i believe that its hard but by working hard and praying for them it will be successfull...... coz they do that when the family of these youth ignnore them and do not look after them ...... but this is wrong coz thier parents have to allways ask them where they r going to who with and what they r going to do there ....... thier parents have to have a very strong relationship with thier children so they wont hide any sicretes and they wont do any thing behind them ........ and if they havent got parents so somebody from the family have to be close to him or her and try to make him or her happy in the life and wont think that he or she is lonely ....... thats my opinion and i dont know about u guys ,i think this might help..........:D

I agree with u Maha.. but it'd be very expensive.. and as u know, not every family is rich..
I think there gotta be some clubs and camps for youths like these.. and maybe it'd be a great idea if mingled with other healthy youths coz they'll realize what health means..

we need some social support to teach families about proper ways to bring up children.. if u treat ur children very well.. and tell them about dangers of drugs right from the beginning u won't find any difficulty..

I just wonder, why is this problem more serious among young ppl in Muscat more than in other regions?!

yeap i agree with u floret about what u maintioned above ..... as u said in muscat there r many youth ppl adected with this ....... may be coz they live in a capital and life is harder then in vilages .... they havent got anything to do ,no job and thier family allways incourege them in doing sth so they start by doing a bussiness in drug and they try a bit first day and some more next day till they become adected ........and they get worried about being unemployed and family shouting so they still and then buy drugs and try them ........

group therapy is well paracticed in western countries.. regarding oman it is paracticed but under a low scale... in psychiatric clinic which are loaded with depressed and schezofrenic patients...

bet thing is to have clubs which are specialized for these patients. plus family encouragment plays an important factor.

the question which be raised who is going to fund this clubs,, goverment: it will take long time to develop it.. or can it be funded by local rich people..
plus there are other factor which can lead to drug addiction which should be solved,, maha has mentioned some like no job, parental neglect.. being free..etc
this problem is not only on drugs but alcohol abuse is also a
co-problem
