DorellaM

Well the reason I started searching for Oman in the first place is because I met some people from Oman here where I was working, and I talked to them about your country. I was fascinated by everything they told me about Oman. (I love to learn about other cultures).....Plus we got along so well, I felt like I knew them my whole life...so I was interested in learning more...and I would love to visit Oman one day...and I will, but not anytime soon...

Dorellam, you have two children and you posted the picture of your beautiful daughter (mashallah!) in Members Childhood Pictures Album (http://www.englishsabla.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7705).
I noticed that as "status" you wrote "single"....does this mean that you are raising your kids by yourself? Without saying too much, can you just tell us the origin of their father, as the mixture gave such a beautiful result (mashallah again ;) ).
If the above questions are too private, please just ignore them...
DorellaM
03-10-02, 07:45 PM
Actually I am a single mother (very common here in the US). Their father is black or African-American. I will indeed post their pic, and actually I will post their picture here in this thread.

03-10-02, 09:48 PM
Thanks Dorellam for your reply and I do admire you...raising kids is not an easy task, let it be alone. It is a great idea you have to want to post their picture here, as the Member Album is out of this section.
My next question is: Do you find life in the States easy and if you had the choice between staying there and living somewhere else, what you would choose?
DorellaM
03-10-02, 10:07 PM
Well....life here is not easy for me because temptation is at every corner ..... and sin in this country is made to seem so innocent. I would love to live in another country that still has good morals and good beliefs. That is one main reason I am a member in this sabla, because I know Oman is one of these countries..:)

What ?
I'm just a bit curious about a single mother (twice) who is seeking good morals elsewhere.
What good morals would you be talking about ?
And what about your children's father? Would he also be joining you in your other good moral country ?

:weep:
That's great. I have a past too, but I don't blame society, my mom, my schools, violence in movies, the music I listened to, unlocked cars, etc.
Now all you have to do is to take responsibility for your actions and not try to foist them off on your boyfriend or your country. How about "I've made some bad choices in my life, but I try not to do so anymore" ? Quit phrasing it as if it was someone else's fault.
Ohhh, a new career as a self-help talk show host -
"Next caller, please."
Wanderer you sound like Dr. Phil McGraw
Wanderer

I'm a little more confrontational than the Phil.
Plus, I really don't care that much (9 out of 10 people aren't really necessary philosophy), I just hate hearing whiny excuses. Reminds me too much of my first wife.
I have hair, too.

I'm sure Dor will find the right way on her own, she sounds quite smart.

I rather like her myself, dag nabbit.
Again, I'm not holding any of her single mom status against her, just her excuses.
Ya hear me thar, Dorellem ?

Because I said I wanted to live in a country with good morals, Im now blaming everyone?? WOW....you knew thats what I meant before I did....THATS AMAZING...
"I've made some bad choices in my life, but I try not to do so anymore"
I stated this in our last thread....but Im not sure you didnt even read any of my responses.
Anyways....its all good. I like you too ;)
DorellaM
08-10-02, 08:31 PM
When do we interview Wanderer??? Or did i miss that one??
Wanderer
08-10-02, 08:41 PM
I read your responses. What'da think gets me all in a tizzy sometimes ?
I don't think it ever occurred to anyone here to interview me. I've blabbed so much about myself it probably wasn't deemed necessary :)
That's me, an open book.
Oh, sure the pages are mostly empty, but the book is open, darn it.
:p

I really don't see what you said above dorellam, that has to negatively trigger such a response from Wandy.
The details of someone's personal life is nobody's business....many women around the world end up single mother...this doesn't mean that there was no marriage involved or true love between the father and mother of these kids. I am sure no one wishes to raise kids alone, but unfortunately, sometimes things don't end up the way we wanted and there is no turning back.
Does the States has good morals or beliefs?...we are all untitled to our opinions, but I tend to agree with dorellam here that they don't. There is certainly better places with better values out there and there is no shame in that.
I am happy that dorellam seems to be a very responsible and sensible person, a caring mother who just dreams of a better future!
Dorellam, which country did you already visit and which one impressed you the most?
DorellaM
09-10-02, 07:42 AM
and I bet you can guess which 2........yup...Mexico and Canada...:p
I have not been anywhere.....and please dont get me wrong. I love living here in America. What I love most about it.....I dont have to travel around the world to see and meet people of other nationalities....they are all here :D
But I do admire muslim countries for their dedication to their beliefs, and how religion is a way of life and not just a practice.
P.S. If Wanderer is the Phil McGraw...then I think X-Press should be the Oprah of the sabla....;)

Dorellam, I take it as a compliment ;)...I do have a lots of respect and admiration for Oprah Winfrey, not only because of her great ideas and good will, but because she fought in a very competitive and tough industry, and success to be on top....she is a woman, and a black woman...so triple the credits!.
Dorellam, still waiting for the picture you promised to post here.

Mexico and Canada count, Dorellam.
Our European posters may chide us for our "isolationism" - our minimal contact with other cultures. The fact of the matter is that's often all to be found for hundreds and thousands of miles - while any piece of wind-blown litter in Europe can easily travel through several countries in a matter of hours, a Texan at the Mexican border will find only one other country between him and the North Pole. Heading south, it's all 3rd world economies. We don't have the cultural neighbors that, say, Great Britain or Germany have (there are, apparently other European countries, but you rarely hear about them ;).
I like your method, it fits our situation - befriend the immigrants and visitors and learn about their cultures.
DorellaM

@wandy....
You know...that is sooo true, I never thought about it that way ;)
@X-Press...yes that was meant to be a compliment...you always give great advice.....!! ..about the pic...the photographer was suppose to give me the pix since 2 weeks ago, but he still hasnt. I think hes in Europe somewhere... but I will post as soon as i get it..

Two very different questions for you today...
1) As you are a mother of two beautiful children (alhamdullilah), share with us the most funniest or most striking comment one of them once made.
2) What does your children bring into your life that no other person can really give?
