Dotmusic review:
Avril Lavigne takes no ****, dude. Call her a popstar, an Alanis Morissette clone or a traumatised teenager at your peril.
In truth she's all of the above - a chirpy version of Alanis, a more believable rock chick than Michelle Branch and a mini Sheryl Crow with more cred amongst her peers.
At just 17-years-old, this Canadian prodigy has already found her natural habitat in the US Top Ten and with her hummable radio-friendly rock and doe-eyed appeal she's likely to stay there for a while yet.
Pop has been crying out for stars like this since the Britney-led invasion lost its sheen. 'Complicated' conjures images of Avril striding off to seek her fortune with her guitar slung across her back and her skateboard strapped to her low-hung rucksack - a teenage boy's wet dream and a teenage girl's icon.
A word of warning though - if stream of consciousness lyrics and a unstable teens with cynicism beyond their years get right up your nose than... steer clear.
