View Full Version : Will I become *BLIND*?
salaam..mambo:)
I have a big problem in my sight..I can't see without using my glasses..my sight is very weak that I can't recognize my friends a meter or 2 meters' far........I suffer alot from this..using my glasses is a temporary solution..
what bothers me alot now is what I read once about eyes problems..the article said that ppl with difficulty in seeing are more prone to be blind in their fourties than others.............is this true?
why dont u have eye laser surgery

Fine ,,, mambo too :D
I have the same problem i am using glasses since 12 years:(
and i do relly feel bad of that ,, my vision now 4.5 !!!
i have asked about the laser surgery ,, they didnt assure me it's success and i have asked those who did it some of them comfortable and some they said it was good but after some years it start reducing !
So i too really in confusion of attending this surgery .
but i dont think of coming blinde coz of this ,, INSHA ALLAH w'll not become .
Cheer up floret
mambo!
well, I did for sure think of the surgery.......called al-shati'a hospital.....dunno.......I'm afraid of having it..who guarantees it's 100% success? after all, I might go ahead and do it..inshallah things will be ok..
this problem really annoys me alot..every year or more I change my glasses..and every time it gets worse and worse..sometimes I feel I'm lost..and sometimes can't even comprehend anything..these days it increased..I can't see the stairs very well..I find it difficult to go downstairs..afraid of falling down:)
hope everyone takes care of their eyes..it's tragedy..believe me it is!
Look on the bright side, Flora........you're great news for ugly single guys:gap:
mimosa that wasnt nice:sorry:
You're a fine one to talk, charmer.......let's open a new thread about your ground-breaking sense of humour transplant.
Just a joke guys.............chill :D
P.S....Qais, i wasn't thinking of you specifically as an ugly single guy :p
P.P.S......a thousand blessings upon your eyes, Florooti, and may they only ever see what is beautiful

I am facing the sam problem Floreeta ..
two weeks back I had to go and make new glasess and raalized that my vision dropped to -6.00 (you are better than me bourche)!!
Well I also thought of Lazer surgery, but am like floret a bit scared.
sad for that Arby!
:(
well, how about using eye lenses?
emm. lazer correction for visual aquity has shown very promising results if it is done properly..
actually, i am busy nowadays.. but i wil try to contact one of my colleagues who is doing ophthalmology now.. and ask him to provide some good information rgarding lazer surgery and changes in vision...
and if i could not i will try to look for some brief informations..:)
will be waiting for the information....................................... .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. ..................................

Floretaa, I do use contacts now ... but contacts are also not reliable sometimes .. it gets irritating when you have to blink every now and then to get them in place :)
glasses and contacts tend to be annoying..we're a bit afraid of having the surgery..sooooooooooooooo..what way shall we take?
well here are some of my friend wrote..
hope it can beneift us...
"Highlights for myopic persons
1-Myopia is a refractive error in which the focus of a distant image lies in front of the retina
2-This problem is corrected by means of :
·Spectacle lenses
·Contact lenses
·Surgery ( the most popular one is “Laser in-situ keratomileusis – LASIK”)
3-Spectacles remain to be the safest method
4-Contact lenses are usually worn for cosmetic reasons. However, they can produce complications. Some of them are:
·Allergic conjunctivitis
·Giant papillary conjunctivitis ( a form of allergic conjunctivitis)
·Superior limbic keratoconjunctivitis
·Some corneal problems such as infections and corneal warping which can lead to severe and permanent refractive error (esp. in those who wear impermeable hard lenses)
5-LASIK also is not that safe. Some of the complications are:
·Those related to the tissue flap (which is done during the procedure): incomplete cutting, wrinkles and cellular proliferation at the interface.
·Infections
·Irregular astigmatism which can be due to irregular healing…etc
·Under/over correction
6-Some advises for myopic persons:
·High myopics ( vision is less than –6), should have regular retinal examination to detect the degenerative abnormalities caused by their problem
·No role of diet in controlling myopia and so in order to get advices regarding this issue, the patient should contact an ophthalmologist.( even avoiding watching TV will not help)
I wish that these informations benefit the patients and I hope tham a good life "
sure ther are some of difficult terms here,, if don't understand anything i canhelp u in that.. but now i have to go and sleep

I also know couple of people who had the laser operation and there were all 100% satisfy and don't even wear their glasses anymore. I advise you floret to contact Al Shatti where it is performed and talk about your case to an ophtalmologist.
lazer visual acuity correction has been improved for the last 10 yrs .. at the beginning it used to have many problems but with davancement it get to imrove.. for example, there was a chance of relapce ( vision get weak again) after 10 yrs.. and nowadays this period has been prolonged.
thus if u really wnat to go to al-shate2 pls do check about their techniques updates..
for every procedure u have to think about the risk... i know someone who did i there and he developed problem cos of teh technique..
onedaw i aksed an opthalmologist about what is bets, she said go for lazix for cosmetics and if u have allargy to glasses only..

well i had mine done at maghrabi clinic at wattyah..but the dcotor who did my eyes(the operation) has opened her own clinic in shatii...she is very good and she uses the latest techniques..if u want her contact let me know
salaam all,
thanx for the priceless information u've added here..got to know lots of things that were once ambiguous to me......well, my friend had the same problem..she had the operation..felt OK..then once, while we were in class..told me that she couldn't c very well..and that she found it difficult to c what was on the board..I then said don't worry over unassured things..they were just scraples.......and she agreed..now she never complains......HOWEVER, it frightens me..I'm not sure till now..I want to do it and get rid of my glasses..at the same time I tell myself that it's sth risky to do.....
anyway, 4everyoung..I'd be happy to know about that doctor..I might get a solid attitude once..
thanx again my brothers and sisters:)
wish u all the best!
most of procedure got risk...
and for the lazer operation, there is a relapse rate .. and u should understand what does it mean.. it does not mean all individual will have relapse but there is a chance...
"it does not mean all individual will have relapse but there is a chance..."
and this is what worries me more and more..

floret each case is unqiue and that is why this operation isnt for every case..
that means before considering making the operation..I should be diagnosed in order to confirm if I can have it or not..right?
before operation u will go into some examination to see ur fittness.. but for every prcedure there is kind of risks . an dthsi might be small or rare .. like u r driving a car and tehre is a risk of accident.. so don't worry try to go for it..
in any surgery , tyroid, abdomen, chest ..etc, before teh surgery the doctor tell teh patients about the risk after operation in erm of percentage .. but that is to prevent future problems betwene teh patient and the doctor..
but lasix, for me is only for cosmetics

My vision was -12 before getting LASIK surgery and getting worse every year... I held off getting the surgery for many years until there were studies showing the long term effects...
However LASIK is very safe, meaning that the incidence of complications is very low, nothing is guaranteed, but statistically crossing the street is more dangerous than getting LASIK :) ... the way I see it without surgery my chances of having bad vision were 100%!
It has been over 2 years since my surgery and I haven't worn contacts or glasses since then. It has been wonderful not to have to wear thick heavy glasses that made my head hurt and didn't work all that well anyway, or contact lenses that had to be constantly cleaned, changed, worry about loss etc.
The best thing you can do is find a reputable surgeon, ask for statistics on complications from his office, a good practice will collect them. don't just go to the cheapest guy! (you get what you pay for).
that is the best thing to doo moonchild... it depends on teh surgeon and his equipements.. and hope shate2 hospital or ma'3rabe clinic provide u the correct informations.
I did call al-shate2 Hospital..they said that the precentage of success for LASIK surgery is 98%..as about Al-Ma'3rebi, I always get some scruples about commercial hospitals..
so what do u think of the percentage?
YEAP THE PROBLEM IS IT IS A COMMERCIAL HOSPITAL..
i think better to hear from people..
our neighbour did this lsix in shati2 and it created problem to him so he wnet to UK and fixed the problems..
but that was long time ago and i am sure they improved now..,
I'll take ur word for it!
I have a cousin of mine who just recently did the laser thingy, in shatti... . she has been wearing glasses since the day I saw her in this world. Now this laser thingy made ehr life easy. Her eye sight is pretty well now, she does not need any of those glasses or lencess.
So the laser for sure works.... there are no garantee in anything we do dear, but all what you have to take is the good out put that many of those who did it say. so i would suggest if you got for the laser .. there would not be harm trying it. Its totaly painless, the whole process is about 30 min's. You will need to go for some test with them first though
Good luck and insha allah khair.
Thanx alot Neena..I have decided to go on and make the operation inshallah..this is all after the memeber's encouragement and my brother's as well..............can't say but THANK U MY PEOPLE!
wish u all da bets
i am thinking of doing it,, but i said let me wear glasses till i finish my study careers then i wil do..
cos here is a problem in finding a time to go.. soo many appointment i got dental and opthalomologist, i just move around thinking when to go..
I do for sure wish you all the very best, and inshallah this should be one hell of an experience .. let us here from you soon.. about the WHOLE thing
then I'm not the only one thinking of having the operation..all the best, inshallah......
Neena,
inshallah I'm gonna have it..but not till I'm done with my last year..will try to tell u about it if I get the chance.........:color:
I've got one question..
can ppl with long sight have LASIK as the ones with short sight?
lask can be applied to both farsightness( hyperopia) and near sihghtness( myopia) but the differnt masks used during teh procedure...
for farsightness, i found that best indication for lasik will be the following 4 different groups of hyperopia, :
-Hyperopia with astigmatism of less than 0.75 D
-Hyperopia with astigmatism greater than 0.75 D
-Overcorrected radial keratotomy
-Overcorrected automated lamellar keratoplasty
sound weired laAAA
dunno how to thank u doctor for ur effort just to answer my questions..thank u so very much!
