Yes we cann't wait any more ! and we won't accept the naked excuses the minister of Information tells from time to time .
His majesty the Sultan has stated in his speech in the university 2 months ago that the freedom of speech and thought will be protected from now on .So that every can express his opinion freely from the old restrictions as long as he/she understand the speciality of our culture .But it seems that the ministry of information is ignoring all of this .Our journalism became the worst even when copmared with the neighbouring ones in the Gulf .
We strongly demamnd for more freedom of speech which is one of the basic human rights !!!!!
Salam
I can not agree with you more. We can not say this right or that is wrong, we have to accept things as it is. It is not our buisness to know about what is going on in our own land and country, it is not our buisiness to know where the countrie's money are spent, it is not our buisiness to even think about it. They do not do mistakes, they are protected from them. Every thing they do is right and we have to shut our mouths and minds up. This is our freedom, these are our protected by the law rights. It is our responsibility to be cowerds and stay out of it. Otherwise, they will not have toys to play with.

When i posted this topic i meant to encourage every one to express his/her opinion .There are several ways to reach our goals .However the most vital thing we can do right now is to pass it on !
Educate the whole of the Omani society that the only way to build the new 21st century Oman is through democracy .Whether we called it democracy or (Shura) it remains the same and that is to respect your people and deal with them as REAL human beings and not just mad deaf creatures listen and obey everything they are ordered to do .
I STRONGLY beleive that the single thing that change the fate of any nation any time and anywhere is its people .They are the ones who can shape its future and ensure it a decent life.
TAKE CARE AND SLEEP WELL !

I gree with you all in here. I talk with my experiance as a journalist in Oman of the local newspaper in Oman. if you could see the law of press in Oman issued by the ministry of information, it's all bands things and never can go againest it, because that will close the newspaper and will go out of business and no one want to do that. I believe it's there bread and butter. All of us want to talk but if we talk we may be captured and than we lose our families who needs us more, and they are happy with the situation now.
I remember an egyption says " kul aish, we isket" which means eat bread and shut your mouth. that the motto our family wants, but we the young generation we want to change many things we don't want, and the best way is to talk, but HOW???
If you talk you have to support your accuse with proves which all the time don't have. you have to give reason of whatever happening around which sometime you don't get a good one -in thire point of view- How can you explain to rudness of a minister who knows that whatever he do, he will still be in that chair.
Even if you could go to H.M. himself, he don't have that guts to take anyone out, he surrounded with advisers who warn him from taking people out, espcaily those who are well connected!!!
Things will change, but slowly, This non-freedom we are living in it's not one man's game, it's more than 10 are involved and we can say that this country is run by "Mafia" who have the right for everything. and we poor people have the right for nothing more than to keep silnet.!!!

There is freedom in this country if you are
speaking for them not against them.
If you say something against them ,,, you
know you will be ended in IBN SENA or RUMAIs
if you are lucky ???

Thank you all for your contributions. I think we are all, and I mean people and government, have a responsibility with regard to freedom of expression. Fathers and mothers, for example, are supposed not only to encourage thier kids to speak up and express thier opinion but also to respect them. The government and its institutiones are supposed to protect and guarntee freedom of expression.
Certainly the Ministry of Information is one of the most important entities the government can use to encourage freedom of speech and expression. The way it regulates the media and the press is an important tool to encourage the participation of the masses in debates that of concern for the nation and the country.
This forum, Sabalt Alarb, is the most important development , in my opinion, towards a much more libral society.
Thanks God, we are moving forward but slowly.

Well I think that the news that you have just revealed to us, who are not in the country at the moment, is really optimistic. I hope that things do become better. There is one thing that I did not understand though, what did you mean by saying that “as long as he/she understands our culture specialty” does that mean that we can only say what we want as long as they like it! We it kind of contradicts the whole situation.

ITS MORE BLESSED TO GIVE THAN TO RECEIVE!!
slam to all of you,,,
I can't talk about this topic without relating to the entire situation in Oman.
We are in a critical situation because of two main reasons
1. corrupted government.
2. weak people.
The first reason is obvious to anyone and can be demonstrated in so many areas. The second one is a little bit left in the background of our minds. Aren't the vast majority of us weak, Jabaneen, selfish…etc?? If not please somebody explain to me why do we have hundreds of spies in every town of this country?? Believe it or not it could be your father, brother or a close friend. Last week I found out that one of my best friends is one of them, well, he is not my friend any more. Is it possible to organise a demonstration in front of The Ministry of Information about the speech right?? Most Omanis will definitely say NO we can't do it !!!!!!! SO, how do you want things to get better ??
At the end don't get me wrong because I am one of you but I had to admit that we are going nowhere if we remain WEAK.
