There are several major business in Oman in which the national ecenomy is depending on and directly affected. we will post briefly and introductory each of thses major business seperately by starting with the first and most important business( PDO).
Petroleum Development Oman LLC (PDO) is the major oil and gas company in Oman, the shareholders of which are the Government of the Sultanate of Oman (60%) and private shareholders (Shell 34Fl, TotalFinaElf 4% and Partex 2%). PDO commenced its first oil exports in August 1967. The current level of black oil production is around 860,329 b/day. Remaining reserves of oil and condensate stand at some 894mln m3 (5,624 mln bbls) as on 1.1.2001. The oil produced comes from some 2326 wells located in around 100 fields in an area of approximately 113,550 sq.km. In addition to the oil-related activities, PDO executes on behalf of the Government activities relating to the exploration and production of non-associated gas.
The production is evacuated through a pipeline network of some 2,700-km to the loading facilities at Mina A1 Fahal, where two export single buoy moorings accommodate about 350 crude oil tankers each year. A comprehensive and fully integrated system of supporting infrastructure is also maintained by PDO, including seven camps (interior towns), some 6025 km of graded roads, 527 km of asphalted carriageway, 10 permanent airstrips, an electrical network of eight power stations connected by some 1276 km of 132kV overhead transmission and a large telecommunications network.
Activity levels are high. During 2001, some 22 rigs, 3 frac/test units and around 13 well-pulling hoists will be in operation to maintain production. Currently, these activities are supported by 2 flexi-seismic crews acquiring 2D and 3D data.
PDO is a major component of Oman's economy. The Company employs directly around 4284 people of which around 84 % are Omanis. The day to day activities are supported by a large number of contractors. The Company has currently some 300 major contracts (over $ 200,000) in place with service and construction contractors. These contractors employ on average some 10,000 staff, more than half of which are Omanis .
