Nekkaz (above), along with the majority of France’s five million Muslims, is furious at what he sees as a persecution of his religion, pointing out that fewer than 2,000 French Muslims actually wear the full veil.

He has begun a campaign to fight the law and he’s pledged one million euros of his own money to pay the fines of any Muslim convicted. Speaking outside the National Assembly, Nekkaz said: “One million sounds a lot, but to protect one’s liberty it’s not much, and I hope that others in this country who hold the constitution dear and want to protect our fundamental liberty will join me in fighting this law.”

The debonair Nekkaz, a shining example of an integrated, modern French Muslim (he was born in France to Algerian parents), has set up a campaign group called ‘Hands off my Constitution’, and plans to raise the €1m by selling some of the properties he owns in the Parisian suburbs.

I say what a faithful and brave Muslim he is, who protects the dignity of 2000 Muslim women who wear niqab.

may Allah swt rewards him the highest grades in heaven.

Well the French can post a new law: 'The police won't accept Nekkaz paying such fines'.

Because it doesn't help the security system.

Yes, and put the money to better use. Though I admire him for doing that people need to obey the law. Same as when expats live overseas and have to obey the laws of that country especially if it is primarily governed by religion.

^Totally. People can raise money against anyone who goes against the law if they support the cause of is at first place, which forces the law to make no sense. But in such cases, if what you really believe in is against that law and you know that this belief and act of yours can harm no body (Except scare ignorant people) then I praise this man for what he's doing.

I don't see why these people should obey that law. It's an affront.

If people believe they are required to cover their faces, they should be able to cover their faces.

It's not the law's business to interfere.

I understand the security reasons, but making a whole new law just to fight his liberation moves is really pathetic.

He's either a fool to think that it's 'okay' to pay all the fines.
Or a smart person who wanted fame, knowing that he won't be allowed to, but people will get the 'oh he had the intention to anyways!' feeling.

*facepalm* dunno whether he doing out of the goodness of his heart or wanting fame... but is an interesting person nonetheless...
