We often hear about hackers as people whom are generally excepted as out laws, many of us get the wrong impression that a hacker is some one whom takes control of an other person’s PC and destroys it. Actually that’s not always the case. Don’t get me wrong am not saying that a hacker is a good guy, at least not always. In fact one of the hacking rules is never to destroy any system. You see destroying a system gets you caught easily and that’s what a hacker tries to a void. A simple and short definition of a hacker would be a person that uses computer as a hobby to gain unauthorized access to data. Some people think that they could be considered as pro hackers just by sending viruses to others which causes massive destruction to their PC. That’s far from the case, by doing that they only become pro geeks. To a hacker, penetrating a protected databank is like a challenge, he has no other object in mind other than accomplishing a technological feat by extracting the desired information. If we gave a hacker a chance to stand up and speak for him self this is what he would say about hacking “ Hacking is the act of penetrating computer systems to gain knowledge about the system and how it works. Hacking is illegal because we demand free access to all data, and we get it. This pisses people off and we are outcasted from society, and in order to stay out of prison, we must keep our status of being a hacker a secret. We can't discuss our findings with anyone but other members of the hacking community for fear of being punished. We are punished for wanting to learn. Why is the government spending huge amounts of time and money to arrest hackers when there are other much more dangerous people out there. It is the murderers, rapists, terrorists, kidnappers, and burglars who should be punished for what they have done, not hackers. We do not pose a threat to anyone. We are not out to hurt people or there computers. I admit that there are some people out there who call themselves hackers and who deliberately damage computers. But these people are criminals, not hackers. We are not criminals. We are not trying to alter or damage any system. This is widely misunderstood. Maybe one day people will believe us when we say that all we want is to learn. There are only two ways to get rid of hackers and phreakers. One is to get rid of computers and telephones, in which case we would find other means of getting what we want.(Like that is really going to happen.) The other way is to give us what we want, which is free access to all information. Until one of those two things happen, we are not going anywhere” That’s what a hacker would say. Now I would like to remind my dear readers that am not on the hackers side neither am I on the opposite side. Just think if me as some one whom is doing a research on the topic.
Never mind what I think let us get on with our interesting topic. Now let us talk about the hackers fate once caught. Of course according to law hackers are placed in prison, but is that always the case? Not really! Some times hackers are employed in the security sector in other companies. Shocking isn’t it ? You might ask me why but then the answer would be obvious which is the lake of security expertise in these companies. An example of such companies is [Secure Computing]. Jeff Mouse the security manager in this company said that he had never expected that the day would come when his worse enemy would be his closest allay. Jeff is the organizer of the [Black Hat] which is a yearly get together which discuses computer security related topics. Jeff says that these seminars witness a quite strange audience. Part of the audience would dress in neat suits and those represent the security employees and the other part would wear indecent clothing and talk about methods used to destroy network protocols and you can guess whom those are! That’s right hackers. According to [Computer security institute] over the three past years 37% of the companies in the US reported hack attacks. And the financial lasses are hundreds of millions of dollars. So what does the future hide in the field of computer security. Will hacker attacks cases continue to rise or are the security companies going to do something about it ? Answering this Mr. Jeff says that [secure computing] is doing some security researches on its client companys to discover the weak points in the security and secure them.
Thats all i got for now ! You guys got anything to add?
