The Prophet (PBUH) said:
the glance is one of the poisoned arrows of Satan, on him be Allah curse.

A thought just came into my mind. According to this Hadith, and what I understood is that looking at a non-mahram woman and continuing to look after a first accidental glance is haram, for what the glance is one of poisonous arrow of shaitan and it opens the door to a flood of lust. But it is allowed for man to look at a woman whom he wants to marry her!... I know he has what is called “the lawful look” (Al Ro2ya Al Shar3eya), but again it all begins with physical attraction because that is the first thing you notice about the person, you can't get emotional about someone who you barely know. So, he may look at the woman with lust in his eyes, even if he’s with her mohrams :P I mean doesn’t the shaitan play a role in this too?!! I don’t know!

Don’t get me wrong please, I’m not trying to change our beliefs or anything, I don’t even know what made me think of this,…. just thinking out loud!

Anyway, things changed now because most marriages happen between people now who already knew each other. So the 'ro2ya' isn't applied anymore! But the question is still remains, if physical attraction is one of the factors that one considers for marriage, it that means most of the marriages the shaitan played a role in it? I have come to read about this recently, and I don't agree with it. I read that in some parts of the world, the man is allowed to look at the girl without her wearing the viel, given the fact that his intentions were to marry her and that they are engaged.

However, I believe that a non-mahram is not allowed to look at the 'awra even if his intentions are to marry the girl. This is what Islam teaches us with no exceptions.
He could look and speak to the girl during the engagement period but that would be with a mahrem around and she should be covering her 'awra.

This is the Islamic way, but as I mentioned above, it is not the only way!

Lol it's like this seareo:

-A man sees a woman
-Satan comes to him" Dude look at that as$, man you gotta married this lady at once

-The man goes and proposes

:XD:

It's the look with lust that counts Evana and I don't think men are interested more in the body when they get married. It may be one reason but it's not the main one. And satan hates marriages since they protect people from adultery which is his favourite when it comes to sinning.

Braiki: I wasn’t mainly talking about the viel or “awra”.

Lol, it’s funny when you put it that way :p

Aww so el rey you wouldn’t mind marrying ugly, overweight girl!? Well kudos to you, we need more people like you :super: lol

Ok, you got a point there. But, It’s like,... shaitan hates Ramadan because they’re chained during this month, but yet people still sin. If they’re chained, it doesn’t mean that they can’t influence people into sinning.

In the hadith it meant when the man stare or by purpose look at a women more than once to figure her out from head to toe not just passing by look which is considered fine. As will in now days communications between men and women are almost every where. Both need to respect the other part and just take off the habit of body or face staring which is very common in the arab world.

when a man wants to marry a women he looks at her once usually just to get the acceptance of both of them as more into natural feelings not just looks. When you C a man in a picture is not like when you see him in real life. Which gives you a hint that feelings communicates with the eyes ( send & receive) plus body language with one passing look at the person you can give a punch of characteristics of the person if you are an expert.

So let me get this straight. If a man wants to get married to a lady, and he goes and see her at her parents house while a mahram is with them. So what excatly is he going to look at? her face? or is he allowed to talk to her? or what excatly?!

Obviously if we go back to Islam, a woman is only allowed to show her face, and hands, and supposly the shape of the figure should not be seen. So, even if the guy would love to see more he can't because the lady from the strat was presented well, the Islamic way that is!!
