Dear brother:
I've read most of the topic on the CNN.
First, keep in mind that the urgument of women equality eith men is not a new topic but the dealing with it always points to Islamic countries in particular, as in many other things. The problem is that their concept about freedum or women eguality is very narrowed in the sense that they ignore the natural differences between both sexes. their concept of equality or really of freedum is pointing to give the person the complete freedum to do whatever he/she wants to do.
And moreover, the U.N which should'nt deal with such topics because of not interferring with religous concepts of the nations said: (For the first time, a U.N. document declared that women have the right to decide freely all matters related to their sexuality and childbearing.).
Another point, is that from the report it is clear that what they call it women rights (which actually emphasizing sexuality) is apparently against religions especially Islam and Christianity and of course other " أديان سماوية" .
One more thing is that in any place the US talks, it always include some of the Muslim countries especially countries like Lybia, Sudan, Iran, so don't be surprised to hear such things.

The dignity and freedom that Islam has given to Women cannot be compared with any other religion, society in any time.
In Islam, a woman is treated with Respect, she has the freedom to work, run her own business, study, propogate islam, etc, the only thing that should be taken care here is of the family integrity, Islam teaches family social integration and unity.
Islam has given the choice on a woman to take dower or not, Islam has given a woman free choice to say no to feed a mans child (not that any mother would do that), but its not her responsibility to do so, she even retains the right to divorce, there are so many things the west blames on Islam to be orthodox and primitive, and try to bring out the mass media to publicise their views and values, the comman man gets caught in their web. The western people never knew anything about womens liberation , but only since the last few decades, when they seen that Islam protects women dignity, and for captilism to spread in the Islamic countries, the first thing is to make the muslims away from islam, fix doubts in their minds, and take the hijab of women, and the modesty in men away. They have been partly successful in this, but majority of muslims are averse to the west, except those who want to lead a carefree life.
Once our muslim ummah tries to think where they have to go, lead a life of "Siraat Al Mustaqeem", there is no fear of outside influence. THe only thing to be mantained here is the rights each individual has on each other and how if one of them is redundant effects all others involved.
There should be a movement among the women in our society, to raise their standards and fight against the external influence, and let the voice heard over the world, if we dont do it now, it will be difficult later on. Turkey is an example of voilation of Women rights. So also is the case of Afghanistan. West presents these dabacles with the headlines in the first pages.
May Allah save us all from being lead astray
Allah is the protector of all, and he knows best. We have to just stick to the path shown to us.
