Well nowdays since many people are bocotting american products, I think its a golden oppertunity for Omani producst to prosper.

Did you ever think of buying an Omani sop (lamya ) instead of LUX?

Did you ever think of buying Zain instead of Almarai?

Did you ever thought of buying Bahar instead of Ariel or Tide??

Did you ever replace you car battery with Antara car battery???

I beleive that as a loyal Omani, we all should try our best to buy Omani proudcts are much as we can coz by that we could help our economy.

Good post Arby ;)

When I came to Oman, I was stunned to see how people were so much into boycotting..

As you said, it is a golden oppertunity for our Omani products to prosper..I have seen many many families in shopping centres looking for Omani products, and avoiding American products...

Some supermarkets have posters on the National Products to make it even easier for the customers..

hmm..to add to your list..

AlKhaboora ketchup instead of Heinz ;)

Princess,

Nothing wrong with supporting local industry if the price/quality are the same.

But if you're motivation is 'boycotting' (although you know my opinion of that!) be careful - most of the products you mentioned are joint ventures with foregin companies. And Al Marai is Saudi of course, so I've been buying Zain or other Omani brands for ages!

Patronizing the local industry is a symbol of patriotism. Its increase the national feeling and build up the resistance against imperialist & compradors capital.

Mimosa,
am not talking about boycotting. I dont support it that much either.
but am saying, since people are boycotting, they might as well shift to Omani proudcts in order to improve our own industries.

Najah,
I never saw this tuna, but its worth trying :)

This is surprising that you have diverted the text. Though I have no idea about the development of Omani industries but if a nation desires to use her own products, it should be welcomed. All the patriots will try to uphold this noble sprit.
Arabian Princess: Why you are hesitant to call to boycott Israeli and American products under the present phenomena? This is the demand of the days of Muslim Ummah

SHamsery,
I am not hesitatnt, I have my own point of view about this. YOu can refer to the topic Again .. (http://www.englishsabla.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=5910&pagenumber=2) and you would see why I had my point of view.

I opened this thread because I beleive Omani products are not truststed by Oman's consumer. They refer to it as an inferior prducts to other brands.
I have a plan to present differnt Omani product and see what sabla members think of them, and for non Omani member (shamsery) why dont you try any of those Omani products and then tell us what do you think sencerily :)

Thank you for your kind reply. Patriotism is such a strength, which inspired a consumer to sacrifice /compromise with some precondition. To develop the local industry some shorts of government protection are required some times. Those economists who advocate free trade, they oppose the concept. Any way, I do not have any idea about Omani products except diaper for the kids. Because in the last month I bought for my kid. Quality is good. Could you advice me about your local products. You can send me the products information to my personal mail. Lastly I would like to mention that, if you omani want to achieve something you are compromise with your personal interest.

Since I do my own grocery shopping, I try to support our local products as much as I can. Some things are hard to replace or not as good of a quality, so I don't. But where ever I can, I do :)

I buy Omani products if they are good. I am not boycotting American products and never will. However, I support businesses especially Omani ladies' businesses and buy things I can from them.

Our products are not very bad, but they lack advertisement & presentation. On a side not, Omanis' should learn to support their products in order to help them develop.

I agree on them lacking presentation, the packaging for some of our products are absolutely cringe worthy including Chips Oman and all of Ali Shihani's Chips products.

But in terms of advertisement I see a lot of Omani products getting plenty of advertisement.

omani products are not marketed in a proffesional way ... no offense to those nice & useful products.. but it is the advertisements & commercials which make the difference :-) & branding.. sadly omani products lack those key factors!!

i guess i am not a loyal citizen of the sultanate of my Oman :dev: the only Omani thing id go for is the laban? in Ramadhan...

i do agree with you about supporting the growth of our own products, if they were good enough to replace what ever quality people are capable of getting thru non omani products...

maybe next time ill look for the national products section Bmzoori is talking about n chek it out... where is that at btw?
