I never truly enjoyed any of his previous releases as much as I enjoyed this new album of his, it's usually a few songs from his albums that stand out but to me this whole new album works very nicely as one package with each track flowing nicely into the next one. Vocally he sounds as great as always and his guitar playing skills are top notch, but melodically I think that this is a step up from anything he's put out to date. The album already hit #1 on the billboard hot 200 and is certified Gold for sales of over 500k.

Rating: 8.5/10

My favorite track: Heartbreak Warfare (http://www.speedyshare.com/files/19869356/01_Heartbreak_Warfare.mp3)

I've heard a lot about him. About time I personally listen to his music and give a proper opinion about it.

Battle Studies is the fourth studio album by American rock musician John Mayer. Released on November 17, 2009 by Columbia Records, the album was produced by Mayer and drummer Steve Jordan.

Song titles on John Mayer's fourth album remind us that love is a battlefield: "Heartbreak Warfare," "War of My Life," "Assassin." Broken hearts figure in the set's first two songs; by the third, a duet with Taylor Swift, Mayer's heart has split in half. Sometimes his response to emotional combat is to be a conscientious objector, writing declarations of independence. But in the end, he's just a vulnerable guy. So his guitar solos mostly stay sensitive; occasionally, though, he beefs things up a bit. And when he revives Robert Johnson's "Crossroads," he gives it some real Stevie Wonder funk.

Who Says is my second-favorite song on the thing. Friends, Lovers or Nothing has its moments and so does Assassin. I loved the album overall; he is departing from the very blues-induced sound he used in his previous albums and going a little more towards an interesting rock sound.
