I have made this research a while ago, and posted it in the old Sabla..I would like to post it again :)

Women in the Bible:

The status of women in Islam is a very common topic that non-Muslims try to use against Islam, some of them even refusing to listen to what Muslim women have to say about the issue. Anyway, since last week I started researching what the religion of those who attack Islam says about women and this is what I found so far...

Women's veil in the Bible

But every woman who has her head uncovered while praying or prophesying disgraces her head, for she is one and the same as the woman whose head is shaved.
1 Corinthians 11:5

Woman is not the glory of God

For a man ought not to have his head covered, since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man.
1 Corinthians 11:7

The reason behind pains of delivery

To the woman He said, "I will greatly multiply
Your pain in childbirth, In pain you will bring forth children; Yet your desire will be for your husband, And he will rule over you."
Genesis 3:16

Bim,

It's a bit like bragging that you've chosen a better poison to take than the person next to you.

Menses in the Bible

"When a woman has a discharge, if her discharge in her body is blood, she shall continue in her menstrual impurity for seven days; and whoever touches her shall be unclean until evening."

"Everything also on which she lies during her menstrual impurity shall be unclean, and everything on which she sits shall be unclean."

"Anyone who touches her bed shall wash his clothes and bathe in water and be unclean until evening."

"Whoever touches any thing on which she sits shall wash his clothes and bathe in water and be unclean until evening."

"Whether it be on the bed or on the thing on which she is sitting, when he touches it, he shall be unclean until evening".

"If a man actually lies with her so that her menstrual impurity is on him, he shall be unclean seven days, and every bed on which he lies shall be unclean."
Leviticus 15:19-24

My life has changed

I must be purged

(luckily we don't claim that the Bible is the word of God and lucky that JC came along to redefine many practices)

Dear Bimzoori,
As a junior member of Sabla and as one of the worst servants of the Ummah, I would like to draw your kind attention. If you like to highlight the glory of woman in Islam, Please do it. You should do it. But please don’t quote the name of other books or don’t strike the religious sentiment of others. If some one counters you and abuses your holly religion, the responsibility comes to you. Apologize

*Luckily, Christians are saved through the work of Jesus, not because we do or do not have exactly the right book. We do not need a perfect book to be saved. We have been saved by the perfect person.

Obviously, the most important part of the Bible is the New Testament - this tells us about Jesus, and contains the writings of his apostles. God's way of dealing with people is different in the New Testament. Therefore, any doctrine in the Old Testament must first be checked against what is in the New Testament*

phew

but don't let me stop you

Seems all those middle eastern religions sure are wild on menses.

Doesn't Islam have a restriction or 2 regarding women and their menses ?

They are NOT exempted, they are FORBIDDEN to make the 5 daily prayers and to touch or read the Qur'an.

Exempted implies that there is an option. Is there ?

Dear Wanderer,
During the period they are exempted, excused, let off, not liable. After the period is over they are to offer their “KAZA” prayer with regular one. It is compulsory. (I do not know the English of KAZA , hope some one will help me) Same regulation for Roza. Kaza is an option. Are you clear?

Dear Shamsery,

I read that it is forbidden for women to make daily prayers when in menses, not that they are exempted. If exempted, the requirement to pray is suspended - they may still make daily prayers if they choose to.

Are women allowed to make daily prayers when in menses - yes or no ?

No.

Why would that be ? Is God disgusted by the condition his creation is going through (a condition he created after all ?)

1 Corinthians 11:5

Woman is not the glory of God

These quotes are just a few of the reasons I am not a Christian, as I don't believe that God is so petty. There's another that Paul wrote about women are forbidden to cut their hair, also something I believe is completely uninteresting to the almighty creator of the universe. However, Wanderer is correct in saying that Islam includes some texts that are at least as harsh towards women.

If you'd like to criticize the teachings of Christianity about women, you should limit yourself to new testament only. And to be fair, you ought to compare it to similar Islamic passages...
