View Full Version : Dimond
Anybody have an idea about different types of diamond and how they put its price, because when u go to buy a diamond ring for example they have a fixed price on it and they don't weight it like normal gold. So they just give a %age discount (e.g 35 %) on the fixed price of the item.
This is a good site gives nice information about diamond.

Well myself I don't know much about diamond, this why I was asking how it works. I think the main reason that many people not interested in buying diamond compared to gold because of its high cost. So this why most people don't know anything about it.
I'm planing to buy a diamod ring for my wife :)

Types of Dimonds which u can find easily in the market are:
-VVS1 (very very slightly included)
-VVS2 (very very slightly included)but more than VVS1
-VS1 (very slightly inculded)
-VS2 (vert slightly inculded)but more than VVS1
-SI1 (slightly included)
-SI2 (slightly insluded)but more than SI2
-I1 (included)
-I2 (included)but more than I1
-I3 (included)but more than I2
you look inside the stone to see inclusions(impurities) by using a lens called 10x but not easy to know it coz your eye has to be familiar with this.there is an institute going to be open in Oman at the end of this year in alrusail alsina'yah,u can join it.it will be something different and nice to join such classes.
-VVS1 is the best stone(before it they are maybe two more stones better than it but not easy to fined in the market and they are too expensive).
-I3 is the worst stone present.
do not ever buy I stone(I1,I2,I3).
it depends on 4 cs(every word starts with c as shown below)
color
carat
clarity(what i explain above is clarity like vvs1 and vs2 and i)
cut
about me i do not like dimond but i like the other gemstones.
that why i am yellow sapphire

That was intersesting Yellow Sapphire....
I have some questions...
when you say "slightly included", etc..are you reffering to inclusions/impurities??
And what about gems such as Rubi, sapphire, etc, are they also divided into vvs1, vvs2, etc, or is there another system of classifying them??
Yeah..what a good information yellow sapphire..to be honest this was the first time i read about it.. i know nothing about this topic..

U gave us a valuable information and im sure it will help us in future,,, when im going to tell my husband to get me one :p heheh just kidding
I went to the site u gave us and I found after the 5Cs u said it also depends on the shapes..
Fancy shapes are less expensive than Rounds. There is one quality, which can affect the cost of a Fancy Shape yet never appear on a Certificate, and that is "Shape Appeal". You don't need to be a gemologist to know if a Heart Shape has an appealing look to it. The lobes of the Heart may look completely different on one stone than another and yet you wouldn't necessarily be able to determine that from the measurements of the Stones. The best way to judge shape appeal is to look at the stone's girdle outline without a Loupe, and decide if it's attractive.
i tried to attach some dimonds pictures but it seems very expensive to be attached.. which mean i couldnt do it ??!!!

this is only for Diamonds and when I said slightly included,it reffers to inclusions(impurities).
this clarity is for Diamond.
for the other stones, maybe we can use it but we do not say vvs1 and vvs2 and so on.we just see the color how is it,suppose the color is deep or light,i will mention one example and that is Ruby.
Ruby which comes from Burma(Mogok) is the best Ruby in the world.
But nowadays the main sourse for Ruby is Thiland. But in Thiland Ruby the color is light not like that one which comes from Burma.
Thiland Ruby is dyed(and that wrong in gemstones),but this dyes Ruby which comes from Thiland is accepted worldwide.usally the stone is dyed to improve the color.
speaking about the inclusions,in Thiland Ruby we find Rutile needls which are thick and short but in Sri lanka Ruby we find Rutile needles long and thin.most stones are found in Sri lanka exept Dimond.
here i want to mention in gemmology(it is also written as gemology) there are two types of stones.and these are precious stones and semi-precious stones.
the precious stones are:Ruby,Sapphire,Emerald(Zomorrod in arabic),Dimaond and Pearl(pearl is having organic orign). The remaing stones are semi-precious stones like Tourmaline,Garnet,Topas,Quartz......etc.
I did mention Dimond at the end when i mentioned the precious stones coz people think Diamond is very expensive than all the other stones and that is not that right.apporximatly they have same price.
i would like to say about a stone which comes from Tanzania,it is called Tanzanite.this stone becomes famouse after the film Titanic only.it was so cheap but now its price goes up.Tanzanite is blue zoisite.(in the real life the stone was Dimond but in the film i am saying it is Tanzanite).
do not forget the natural stones and synthetic stones.

thanks,I love gemstones and rabbits like anything.

Yellow, very informative indeed...
one more question..diamond is made of carbon atoms.. what about the other Gems??

it depends on the gemstones suppose for Ruby Al2O3 that is aluminium oxide(if i am not mistaken coz my brain is working well as u know about my problems) but let me tell u every gemstone is having its chemical composition.
Dimond is very hard stone and graphite(pencil is made by graphite) is very soft mineral(i think it is a mineral) but both have same chemical composition and that is Carbon. But there are one bound in Dimond and this bound is very strong. In Graphite there are 2 bounds, one is same like that in Diamond and the other bound is week that why the atomes in Graphite are not attaching to each other in compact way.
there is something called Moh's Scale of Hardenss like below
1-Talc
2-Gypsum
3-Calcite
4-Flourite
5-Apatite
6-Orthoclase Feldspar
7-Qartz
8-Topaz
9-Corundum
10-Diamond
so the hardenss of Diamond is 10 and it is the hardest mineral and the softest mineral is Talc.we see Corundum is 9 but that does not mean the difference between Diamond and Corundum is one.maybe Diamond is 30 times harder than corundum.i want to say the difference between 1 and 2 is not same like the differece between 2 and 3 not same like the differece between 3 and 4.
the other minerals come in between this Moh's scale.
what happened when i log in and then i post reply it comes log off and then i have to log in again, what is the problem, this is sicne yesterday or day before
Good info. Y-S.

let me with him,i think these days we r becoming friends, usually he is not with me,but these days he is with me :)
Y-S I was just kidding u, I saw it in your profile and its good that u love gemstones beside rubbits. Thats right most of the time I'm not with u and I have my own opinion and u have your own, but its ok to disagree on some issues and agree on others. But its good to be freinds, who knows maybe we will meet one day.
Arby, no problem to drift from the main topic for sometime and return to it later, this good for healthy discussion and refreshing our ideas about the main topic.
So how about you sabla ladies, do u like to have Diamond ? I mean for those who are marrid do u ask your husband to buy u a diamond instead of gold as a change ?

I will tell u a secret, why ladies love these things and gold.
they want to keep themselves in safe side if their husbands die or if they get divorced.
I was told this by one of married ladies and i think this is right,do not u think so.But really i like them, they r so sweet.
