I'm off to Sharm el Sheikh in Egypt next week for a week's diving, apparently the coral reefs in the area are meant to be fantastic,
anyone ever been there before?

never been there, but His Majesty Sultan Qaboos has a palace there, make sure u pop in...

I went to Sharm al Sheikh about 5 years ago. I expect it's more developed now.....it was a little short on the 'traditional' holiday nightlife, but there was enough, and I guess there's more these days.

If you're a diver, there are some good dive outfits there who can rent you the kit and all the rest of it. The place to dive is called Ras Mohammed, just a few km away. If you go on a dive trip, you can do it on a boat. Otherwise, if you've got a car you can go to the Ras Mohammed nature reserve (a few quid to get in, about a fiver I think), and walk out to the edge and literally jump off the reef - take something for you feet though, you have to walk over rock and dead coral to get to the water.

Once you're in, it;s spectacular. It might not be the size of the Great Barrier or whatever, but people I know who've dived both think that Ras Mohammed is much better in terms of how well it's preserved and the diversity of life there. Even if you're just snorkelling, you can sea loads around the top few feet of the reef.

Enjoy, and don't forget that everything you buy will cost ten times the real price unless you really check it out first!!!!!

Well that's a hell of a way to start - diving off the northern coast of Africa. Too cool.

Wishing you a safe trip TB. I have never been to Sharm el Sheikh, but I heard that it is indeed a beautiful place. Waiting to hear your comments when you come back.
