does this disorder exist?

MPD, is a case when one person has more than one personality, difficult to explain.. i mean its like he is physically one person, but mentally he has two or more personalities, i know it sounds a bit freaky and unbelievable.

i 've read books written by one of the best psychiatrists and he confirmed that he believed it, and gave some facts, and cases and reasons as to why this disorder may arise.

then i came across another book written by a psychiatrist too, saying that no such thing existed and it is only the patients acting that way.
unfortuantely i cant seem to remember the authors nor the books' names at the moment.

so does any of u have any idea about this?

Multiple personality disorder is an old term and now it is named as dissociative personality dosoredr..
The cause of this problem is unknown…but it is found that nearly 100% of these patients had a traumatic event I the past specially in childhood…

trauma can be either,: child sexual or physical abuse, death of a close relative specially being a witness for that death. Absence of support from parents or siblings..
Other causes which are not sure yet includes epilepsy, temporal lobe hypertension…..

in the past these patients were seen as they are suffering from various states of possession, till 1800 soemone discovered this as a disorder and reported with its clinical features..

Diagnosis of this problem is difficult bcos it is similar to other disorders like schizophrenia, borderline personality disorder..
these patients have two or more distinct identities or personalities, and they change suddenly from one personality to another….. and an important feature is that they don’t recall anything from other personality states they just remember the things in the current personality stae..
a good feature is when u r interviewing them they say “we/us” instead of “me”.
and in 27% of patients they have different handwriting in each personality state…
U can elicit other personalities by hypnosis…
