that is one topic i was so interested in , because there came a time when i wanted to know everything about forensic studys, i still am really interested in criminology.

anyway, fingerprints of identical twins are similar but different. even twins that come from the same zygote. it is said that fingerprints is not completely genetic ( thats obvious because it is unique in every indiviual, so there must be another factor influencing it). fingerprint pattern is influenced by the nutrition a fetus gets, blood pressure, etc, usually from three months of pregnancy.

about me i'll say it in a semple way .. as i understand it ..
as u know that no one in this world got the same finger print ..
which simply noo one got the same as anyone else..

but i got a qustion???
i have heard or read long time ago.. that there was a family that doesnt have finger print,, they were a chinese family .. but i think it happen when doctors tried to play with the genes coz i dont think normal ppl it can happen.. who knows.. what do u think???

intresting miss naughty..
well i know some genetic disorder which produces abnormal fingerprints..
like in down syndrme, turner syndrome.. and as well i heard in cystic fibrosis. .. don't worry about them
but u know this is my first time to know that finger prints can be absent.. intresting

It is believed that the development of a unique fingerprint results from a combination of gene-environment interactions.
one of the environmental factors is the so-called intrauterine forces such as the flow of amniotic fluid around the fetus bcos identical twins are situated in different parts of the womb during development and they are not static),
other factors are mentioned by seniora....

plus genes are their just to specify ur biochemistry , and the gross appearance .. but the detail and fine features are the result of genes and environment…
thus identical twins ( monozygotic) might have very similar features but their fingerprints might show differences..

do u know that the study of fingerprints is called Dermatoglyphics….

There are many things are looked when u r looking for the difference in tow hands..
For example: [colr=blue] pattern intensity[/color]
The lines comes in three forms lwhich are arches, loop and whorl….
http://www.handanalysis.net/images/hist_loop.gifloop
http://www.handanalysis.net/images/hist_arch.gif arches.
http://www.handanalysis.net/images/hist_whorl.gif whorl

And it is intresting that some studies showed that there is association of some disease with the pattern intensity.. like Mitral Valve Prolapse, a form of heart disease, is associated with an abnormally high number of arches( , breast Cancer, has been linked to a high number of Whorl patterns ..
I don’t know wether those studies were proven or not..

Other things that they look for in the hand is the Presence or Absence of the Sydney or Simian Lines

http://www.handanalysis.net/images/hist_sydney.gif Sydney Line: Head line goes completely across palm.
http://www.handanalysis.net/images/hist_norm.gif Normal arrangement: Heart, head, life lines
http://www.handanalysis.net/images/hist_simian.gif Simian Crease: Heart and head joined, which happens in Down syndrome

Well here are some more patterns of fingerprints...

Now I want to introduce a new term called typica… which are unique lines which overall form the finger print …. they can be short or long, they can start, stop or split, they make figures, can be big, small or broad.. see the lower figure…http://www.fingerprints.demon.nl/images/Image25.jpg

Generally there are tow types of real typical:
- Ending lines
- Splitting lines (bifurcation's)

but these two typical can form other different shapes like : a very short line between two other lines is called an "isle", when a line splits and immediately returns to one line it is called an "eye" . when it splits and one of the two splitting lines immediately returns to the site it came from and stops it will be called a "hook".

this figure shows some of typica:
http://www.fingerprints.demon.nl/punt.jpg

6: is the Core
1, 4 and 5: are bifurcation
2, 3, 7, 8, 9 10 and 11: are ridge end .

that was interesting fahad ....
well done :)

i have got also somthing interesting... here u r:

"There are a lot of ways to make a fingerprint visible:eyes: , the best one is by using very fine powder likealuminum powder, cos it will stick to the fingerprints stamp ..

But if u want to copy the print or the mark to a paper u have to use a magnetic iron powder. the powder is not magnetic but the lifting brush is. But this method is useful for fresh marks not older than few hours..
And for older one other methods are used like Ninhydrin a chemical that colors the amino-acids that are left behind after contact with the skin.

For metal or plastic object the cyano-method can be used…where a few drops of superglue, cyano-acrylate, are heated they vaporize. .. where the smoke of the cyano will attach to the fingerprints leaving a clear white print. … remember don’t do this at home coz it is poisonous"

great job miss naughty...
that is intresting to know how visualize the finger prints..
so by that i will know who uses my pens most of the time...

thanx fahad.. that was kind of u ..

u know what i kept concentrating in my finger and the picture u've added and i discovered that its "left loop" but i got a question???
it have been proved scientifically that all the fingerprints dont look the same?? so how i found that picture the same as main??
but i was not sure about my answer so u tell me if it was right it no...
is it bcoz the number of rings shown in the finger is not the same as every one????

actually it is a difficult question of how can u use the fingerprints in differntiating two people fingerprints..
i was intresting in that but i found it to be a huge topic requering alot of things.. but what i have managed to get that:
they take each pattern of intensity and they give it a number and they look at each typicae and give also a number ... so there is a number which is used but exaclty how it requires time for me to concentrate on thta which is difficult now..

plus they also look into many things whcih i did not mention but i will try to explore this science more and let u know in sha'a allah..

much easier, diiferent countaries uses its own rules of identifications like in holand they use 10-12 charactristics while in south africa they use 7 charactristics..
these charactristics can be number of line, size and shape of lines and number of bifurcations and so on..etc..

Nice thread!

I have Sydney Line: Head line goes completely across palm

what does that mean?

Thanks :)
