View Full Version : First Aid... 1
friends, let us talk here about the different ways that we use to manage (first aid)some minor problems that might happens in front of u ...., cos oneday remember u might need this knowledge
.......and pls let us make it simple so we don't forget them ...
if u know something pls share it with us cos that might benefit others..., don't hesiate to post, cos tehre is no shame to get knowledge..
now, let us talk about bleeding in general...
what kind of bleeding u know and what is the difference between them and which one of them is the dangerous...
how u manage bleeding at home
so let us see what u know and share it with us

fahad, i am not professional as you, but when i normally bleed in my hand or something, i suck the blood! because my enzymes in my mouth kill the bacteria. Although i should wash it with soap and water, but i don't really care, if it's small bleeding.

Well what I know if u bleeded from your nose you have to lean the person infront so the bad blood come out. YOu should not lean him backword coz the blood will enter into his throat which is so bad.
When you bleed in your hand, you should hold it tightly so he bad blood comes out and then clean the area and tie it.
that nice ,
arbprnces u mentioned one of the principles which is pressure and well done..
about u don, what an enzyme u got in ur mouth , i think u should come to our lab. to extract ur mouth enzyme to study it..
but friend, the only enzyme present in saliva is amylase which breaks starch(sugar) and it nothong do with killing bacteria..
but u mention a very important point, i am doing the same thing as u r doing which is not caring for small bleeding, and this is a wrong paractice ...............
u know that there are some small viruses which need only a small drop of blood so it get transmitted from one person to another and one of them is hepatitis B virus (HBV) and u know if a medical student in UK get infected with this virus he will be kick out from medical field .... cos they affraid that they infect other people(patients)accidently...
anyway,
com' on friends let participate more we only get one priciple of management which is pressure
and let us mentions some points like pressure so it will be easier to remember them...
i am waiting

Direct pressure to wound
Elevate wounded extremity
Treat for shock
Pressure points and tourniquet in absolute emergency
wondrere, u got some very important points
Well, while u r thinking of the principles let me dicuss with the type of bleeding( called also haemmorhage), they are classified according to the type of vessel which bleeds : artery, vien or capillary,, I hope u know the difference between them,…
arterial: the blood here is oxygenated thus it is bright red in colour, and it is under pressure thus it spurtsfrom a wound with heartbeat… it is important to recognize arterial bleeding cos they bleed too much to a level it decrease circulating blood in body..
venous bleeding: these are in low pressure and less oxygenated thus their blood are dark red..
capillary: as we know they are very very tiny vessels thus they just case oozing or bruising…

if its a cut, usually, i wash the wound, treat it with an antiseptic, then close it, if bleeding doesnt stop, then its time to see the doc.
but so far, all my cuts, stop bleeding.
seniora , what u do is right and that wil be good for mild bleeding..
now let us talk initially about general line of management then let us talk specilly about other special type of bleeding like nose bleeding..
general line of management of bleeing
remember the magic word: PEG pressure, elevation and gauze(bandage).
apply pressure to the wound:
remove or cut the person’s clothing to expose the wound,,, if u have a sterile dressing or pad is immediately available cover the wound,,, apply direct pressure over the wound with ur fingers or palm of ur hand..
elevate and support the injured part:
make sure that u elevate the injured oart above the level of heart so blood flow to the wound decreases,,,,, handle the injured part with support cause there might be a fracture associated….
bandage the wound
if u applied a pad in giving pressure don’t remove it but apply over it a bandage and apply another pad if blood seeps through ,,,,,,,,, remember don’t remove pads applied to the wound cos u will interfere with the clotting process,,,,,,, after applying the bandage check the distal pulses to be sure that the bandage is not to tight that it decreases the blood flow to distal areas…
here are some precaution that u must be aware
-don’t apply a tourniquet , cause they are usually to tight to decrease the blood flow too much , thus making less platelets reaching the wound thus will affect the healing..
-if there is an embedded foreign object, don’t remove it but apply pressure and pads on either side of the wound..
-if possible wear gloves to protect against infection.
-if the person becomes unconscious, be ready to resuscitate.
Nose bleeding: ( epistaxis)
1-sit down with head tilted forward: don’t tilt back cos blood might run down to throat and induce vomiting.
2- Pinch the fleshy part of nose, and breath from mouth
3-don’t speak, swallow, cough, spit or sniff: cos these will affect the clotting( process of arresting the bleeding0.
4-After 10 minutes, release the pressure on nose, if bleeding does not stop apply pressuer again and release it after 10 minutes.
5-If after 30 minutes bleeding does not stop: go to hospital with pinching ur nose.
6-If bleeding stops: clean the surrounding area and have rest for few hours.
Here u should have a knowledge of location af arteries in the body ..
For example: if bleeding in palm , the indirect pressure will be on artery located on the wrist or elbow so this pressure decreases the blood flow to the wound but not to a limit that it causes problem.
U have to locate these arteries cos in case of emergency u might need this knowledge…
This are some tips to locate them:
-at wrist: on either sides of the base of the wrist u will find two arteries one directly below the base of thumb and the other on the same horizontal level but on the opposite side…
-at elbow: at middle of the elbow u will find a prominent tendon( of biceps muscle) just go medially( toward the trunk) on that medial half try to feel the artery pulse.
-On the lower limb that will be difficult to describe for u: but look for the femoral artery cos it is easily felt: feel for a pulse at the groin region just at the beginning of the lower limb (its above part), I ma sure u will feel it..
very informative.thanks for sharing Dr.
Cause i never knew about the pressure and the location af arteries..
