Why do people tend to like old music more? Should the singer be dead so he's officially a legend in music? Is it the music itself that proves itself or it's us and our mentality to think that who passes away are legends and mostly impossible to get like their music?

Different music speaks to different generations but when an artist bridges the gap and has everyone jamming to their beats, that's super stardom in the Music industry.

You have one hit wonders and you have people who sell millions over decades.

Good music is good music.

People don't like old music, they like music that they were into at the peak of their musical interest, most people go through a phase where they're really into music and then eventually that interest gets reduced over time till they're not longer familiar with what is currently popular, they no longer discover new singers or songs and end up stuck in that time zone where they were once on top of their musical interest.

There are many great new songs out there, and I'm not talking about those that make it to the charts worldwide, I'm talking about less mainstream releases that mostly go un-noticed because people just care about a quick fix, which is usually what is overplayed on the radio, and they're just too lazy to really dig or discover anything new.

I am constantly looking for new music and not only what's on the charts, I look for music that inspires and moves me and I want to stay up to date, I refuse to get stuck in my time zone because i don't want to be one of those people who just cannot seem to move on, who cannot get moved by anything fresh and new because it sounds so foreign to them, I always want to be inspired in new ways.

I always try to start threads here with relatively un-known artists but the threads go un-noticed, and people just don't want to give something they're not familiar with a shot, it's like it's way too much of an effort to them.

Regarding legends, people always loved them, it's just that they get reminded by their talent whenever something happens to them, like in the case of Michael Jackson, there's no doubt that his music has always been loved but there's been an amazing jump in the amount of plays his music has been receiving lately because people feel like they want to remember him, remind themselves why they loved his music in the first place, to celebrate his achievements. I am guilty of being one of those people, I took his music forgranted when he was alive and just rediscovered why he deserves to be called a legend, the king of pop.

I prefer the oldies. I think it's because with this generation's song you get over them soon enough, but I can listen to the classics without ever growing weary of them

Very few of the new artist catch my ear but a select few do that I feel are good. Don't watch MTV, vH1 or listen to top 40 radio ...so much of the new music I'm just not exposed to.

The older the music, the more unfashionable it is, the better as far as I am concerned.

Older music has been judged by its own generation and then rejudged by succeeding generations. So it's been sifted and resifted and what you get usually really has staying power.

The problem with new stuff is you never know if it just seems good today and will fade tomorrow.

I like REALLY old music, the older the better.

I like old and modern music both at the same time. But to be honest, old music never fails to impress me and get me out of my bubble. It just has a special feel to it. Modern music as well has its touch but then again I would still prefer grabbing an oldies album to a modern one anytime of the day.

Music is an international language, not all can speak and understand it..!!

As for me I’m in both “old & modern”..

but what I like in the olds, they got the best song music, if we try to focus in the music, will find something amazing rarely to find it in nowadays…

In a song they are different music degrees
مقام الصبا..مقام العجم ...مقام الحجاز...مقام راحة الارواح...مقام الرست....مقام جهاركى

And their great poem…

In nowadays songs, hardly to get song with many degrees, maximum 2....they are just for dancings and people dance with them with out knowing what all about..!!

مثل اغنية البرتقالة ...like the orrange song :p

Only Mohammed Abdo, Ahmeed Fat7ee, Wadee3 al 9afee….etc>>>remaining with best quality of Music

^ Why the "Orange Song" in precise? Why didn't you mention other good modern new songs like: Doctor - Bashar Al Shatti, Hatha Ana - Ahlam or any other good singers.

To be frank, I don't think that new modern music suck or has no quality. Actually, it all depends on the singer himself/herself and how he/she produces and promotes for the song.

Because new artists are : ta3aal o `3anni (just come and sing) ... No talent, no good music and no good lyrics at all.

Old music has never attracted me.
Eventually, it is a personal taste.
Anyhow, I love nowadays music, which is going to be an old music for the up coming generations, which makes me a fan of the future old music = oh, I love old music then. :D *bla bla* :p

That being said, and:

Should the singer be dead so he's officially a legend in music?
So many members here like Abu Baker Salem and Mohammed Abdo. They're not dead to be liked that much. It's the music they create, the lyrics, 'the everything. Ta3al o '3anni (just come and sing) like Rossonero said has no wisdom in the words.

Law 5ayarooni - Abu Baker Salem:

لو خيرونوا بختار الذهب الناس في الدنيا معادن
If they made me chose, I'd go for gold, people in this world are metals

Can any new comer match such golden words?

I don't like I would say 80% of what is pumped out now in music. I love classic rock, classical music (Vivaldi, Mozart etc) and world music (Caribbean, Arabic, African)....I feel today's music has lost some of its "soul".

I listen to everything! The new, the old, mainstream, underground artists, & in different languages.

I obviously don't feel the same way about every artist I listen to, and the music that they're releasing. One thing is for sure, I never seem to get bored from the oldies music.
