I have personally observed many duaas being spread around ( through forwards, media and mosque gatherings) and are becoming increasingly popular. I am here refering to the dua's concerning bloodshed, wars and victory of Islam and the people of Islam.. Huge chunks of the duaas involve begging for revenge and punishing those who are unjust and inhumane in this world... some are quite extreme eg. ( praying to god to destroy their villages and watch them suffer, making their women infertile, depriving them from the pleaures of this world and hereafter)

I am aware of the world conflicts and unjust acts witnessed by millions of people around the globe. I also understand the frustration, anger and desire for revenge one may have..However, I personally feel that the many duaa scripts printed and distributed can be approached differently in a more positive manner.. Infact I am not even sure that such duaas is not frowned upon..

According to my understanding of Islam's perspective on making duaas, we should alwaysask for the best of others and never wish ill for them.. eg it is not accepted to pray to god to make someone u dislike break a leg or die.

So instead of all the negative duaas, why dont we instead ask god for peace and understadning between individuals of the various faiths.. to end the bloodshed.. to bless them with Islam.. to make them our allies and share their assests .. to have us all united..

The prophet peace be upon him, never begged god to torment Abu Jahal and Omar bin Kha6ab (before he was a muslim) nor did he pray to witness their families suffer.. instead he prayed to god to allow atleast one of them to enter islam, and benefit the nation, and to utilise the strenght of these two very powerful and strong men at thier time. Eventually, his prayer was answered and Omar bin el kha6ab entered Islam and marked one of the greatest and happiest moments for Islam...

Furthermore, the prophet peace be upon him always prayed to god to have mercy on his people and light their path to Islam because his people are unaware of the truth [ Allahuma Ihdeehum fahum la yebsuroon ]

What are your views on this topic ? Do you notice yourself begging god for revenge more than you ask him to convert themto Islam or reach a genuine long-term understanding ? Is it even allowed in Islam to wish all these bad things to happen to those we are in disagreement with and their off-springs and many generations to come ?

Scholars, please shed some light.

I, as an onlooker, find it interesting that this topic has not even got itself one reply.

I personally was advised insistently by my fellow Muslims to say dua'as AGAINST Israel and its people when it was the time of its offensive in Gaza. I didn't obey.

I agree with GingerPop, you should always ask God to give the best for your friend and not ask for punishment for your foe...

Such people forgot that our God is their God too, they are his creations as we are his creations. They forgot that God made those differences for a reason. They Forgot that God's grace is just like the rain, it rains for all types of people, good or bad.
I guess God not answering those prayers tells us one thing or two.

My guess is people are thinking twice before sharing their views and
"personal FATWAS" after reading my recent thread
" Everyone is a scholar these days" ROFL :D

Braiki, It is true what you say, when ppl insult others (even the bad guys) they are insulting one of god's creations.. I feel rather than to imply to god that some of his creations are low-lifes we should pray and ask for a better and positive change ..

One of the conditions for a dua to be accepted is for it to be one that wishes no harm upon anyone, only good. Think of it as spreading positive energy. Otherwise it's not really a dua, even if the context makes it sound like one. It is just, I don't know, evil thoughts?
