Killing a Lizard

This question was always on my mind....and here now i want to make things clear....When i was a child people used to tell me that if you kill a Non muslim Lizard you get 7asanat...is it true????????

How can you tell if a lizard is Muzlim?
Not the Lounge Lizards, obviously.

When I first started college I had 3 Anole Chameleons:

Leonardo - the bumbling Assassin persona
Dominic - the Lover persona
Max - the Used Car Sales persona

The 3 lived above their terrarium in the curtains and came down into the terrarium when they wanted to be fed. I had all the neighborhood kids looking for bugs, spiders, and such at feeding time.

One time I had a party at my place and some girl walked by with Max on her shoulder and she didn't know it. I stopped her just before she made it into the bathroom. What a rescue.

I never once observed religious literature or activity in the terrarium, and always just assumed that they were agnostics.

Lulu, I dont think there is such a thing as Muslim vs non-Muslim Lizard..
I remember I heard something once about killing Lizards, but I'll have to check first..I'll come back to you later :)

I don't know how far is this true, but I heard that Black Lizard are referred as Kafir.

It's considered wrong (or it brings bad luck) to kill a lizard in Hawaii. The Geckos there eat lots of the bugs - mosquitoes, flys, etc., so by killing the lizards you increase the number of those pests.

Listen everybody and who ever thought i should use common sense, it's just one of the rumors that children always talk about,you know when older people say somethings which is not true just to impress children for example fary tale stories.

i was told that when i was so young and i have never thought of asking until now...so i just wanted to see how people think about that and if it was true or not although some of it is true as i know.

Please when you see such a lizard, harry up and kill it in once.
I remember a hadeeth encouraging us to kill them in first shot.
As the hadeeth if u kill in once you will gain 100 hasanah and if you kill it in 2nd time u will get 50 hasanah and so on.
I hop the moderator check this hadeeth for us.
But for sure kill the lizards bcoz they are poisonous.
A fiend told that he knows a family got food pisoning bcoz the lizard fell in their food.
PLEASE be carefull and kill the lizard.:) :) :)

Dears,

here I have found three hadeeths redarding killing lizards.
I found them in Ryadh aSaaliheen

1- narration of abu Hurairah said : The Messenger of Allah said:
( Who has killed a (wazgha) lizard in first hit he will have so and so of hasanat and who killed it in 2nd hit he will have so and so of hasanat less than the first, and who killed it in 3rd hit he will have so and so of hasanat).

2- In other narration: (Who has killed a wazgh (Lizard) in 1st hit will gain 100 hasanah and who killwd in 2nd hit will have less than that and who killed it in 3rd hit will gain less than that.
These two narrations in Saheeh Muslim).

3- Narration of Um Shareek.
She said that The Messenger of Allah has ordered her to kill the awzagh (lizards). And He said: (they were blowing the fire for Ibrahim).

Hadeth no. 3 is being agreed between all (motafaq alaihi)
as its in Reyadh aSaliheen.:)

I dare any of you to try and slap this lizard while trying for a 1st hit heaven bonus. At 200 lbs. and with poisonous saliva, a grown male Komodo Dragon would rip the meat from your leg bones and rip you to shreds. ... well, at least you'd get to heaven quickly.

Personally, I think killing lizards is a silly idea:

1. They are not poisonous
2. They eat mosquitoes and other annoying insects
3. Killing animals which are not harming you, unless it's for food, is morally indefensible.

By the way, many Wahabis I knew in Saudi Arabia eat them (the big ones that is - I think they're called '9ibba). And if you let small animals walk in your food, then you're a messy git, don't blame the animal and don't be surprised if you get food poisoning!

Many contradiction in your reply.
First you said lizards are not poisonous BUt in the end of your reply you say dont blame the animal-----------.
Second thing lizards that meant to be killed is different than what is in deasert. .
In the hadeeth is called wazagh (æÒÛ Çæ æÒÛÉ)
and what is in the desert is not called (æÒÛ Çæ æÒÛÉ) please get the idea.

Third thing why are u saying that killing lizards is a silly thing?
R u a muslim? if yes why u describe that as a silly thing since u obey Allah and His Messenger?

A few lizards ARE poisonous - Komodo Dragons have a bacteria in their saliva which is poisonous and Gila Monsters have poison producing glands in their mouths - though the poison is not introduced via fangs (as in snakes).

The greatest poisoning risk to humans from most lizards is from fecal Salmonella. Same too with birds. Just wash your hands after handling lizards or birds.

2. Yes, the word you quote means little lizards like geckos. But prior to that, everyone was asking about 'lizards', not a specific type. Are there some 7alal lizards then?

This is a forum for discussion, please don't tell me what I do or do not have a right to discuss. Did you not express opinions about the Shi3a even though you are not one of them?

But this is a public forum. Every member has a right to express their opinion on anything as long as they are not attacking others (which I have never done). Get over it.

Open a new thread if you want to discuss another subject - I'm open-minded on the one you mention. My only criteria on having children is that they should have two loving parents whenever possible, and that their parents should know they can support them emotionally and financially before entering into such a committment.

Some Muslims in this thread say the 7adeeth you quoted is true, some of them say that it is either not true or that the 7adeeth are unimportant. Both opinions are valid, and both expressed by Muslims, not me.

I respect your opinion, but mine is that God did not design any creatures for us just to hit with our sandals. I do not mean to offend you, and I am sorry if you feel I was disrespectful to your faith. You have both read enough of my posts to know by now that I am not your enemy.

If I found a lizard in my house, I'd just catch it and put it outside. Same with (most) spiders.

They just eat the bugs.
