How often do you read the Quran? Out of the 24 hours that Allah has given us in a day, how many minutes do you dedicate for the Quran? How much effort do you put into trying to understand the meanings of the Quran?

If you think about it for a minute...how many hours do you spend trying to study materials for your coming exam? why does it seem so difficult to read Allah's words,, at least for half an hour a day?!

Well, I got something from an email that I would like to share with you :):)

7 tips for improving your relationship with the Qur'an

Are you one of those people who rarely touches the Qur'an? Or do you read daily, but don't find it is having the impact on you that it should?
Whatever the case may be, these are some simple tips that can help you connect with the Qur'an.

Before you touch it, check your heart. The key to really benefiting from the Qur'an is to check your heart first, before you even touch Allah's book. Ask yourself, honestly, why you are reading it. Is it to just get some information and to let it drift away from you later? Remember that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was described by his wife as a "walking Qur'an": in other words, he didn't just read and recite the Qur'an, he lived it.
Do your Wudu (ablution).
Doing your Wudu is good physical and mental preparation to remind you you're not reading just another book. You are about to interact with God, so being clean should be a priority when
communicating with Him.
Read a few minutes everyday.
Too often, we think we should read Qur'an for at least one whole hour. If you aren't in the habit of reading regularly, this is too much. Start off with just five minutes daily. If you took care of step one, Insha Allah (God willing), you will notice that those five minutes will become ten, then half an hour, then an hour, and maybe even more!

Watch out for the second part!!

Part Two

Make sure you understand what you've read
Five minutes of reading the Qur'an in Arabic is good, but you need to understand what you're reading. Make sure you have a good translation of the Qur'an in the language you understand
best. Always try to read the translation of what you've read that day .
Remember, the Qur'an is more interactive than a CD.
In an age of "interactive" CD-Roms and computer programs, a number of people think books are passive and boring. But the Qur'an is not like that. Remember that when you read Qur'an,you are interacting with Allah. He is talking to you, so pay attention.
Don't just read, listen too.
There are now many audio cassettes and CDs of the Qur'an, a number of them with translations as well. This is great to put on your walkman or your car's CD or stereo as you drive to and from work. Use this in addition to your daily Qur'an reading, not as a replacement for it.
Make Duaa (supplication)
Ask Allah to guide you when you read the Qur'an. Your aim is to sincerely, for the love of Allah, interact with Him by reading, understanding and applying His blessed words. Making Duaa to Allah for help and guidance will be your best tool for doing this.

It is very very useful Bimmy.
But I think it is a personal plea .. like no one can come here and tell u I read the Quran for so and so minutes coz it is a personal thing .. and not something that anyone should know.
BUT thank you for the tips
I beleive if you set a certain a day .. like for you normal exercizes and you set to read at least few pages of the Quran you are improving the relationship. It better be late at ngiht since you do not have to worry about any other commitment at that time.

It is usuful Bimzoori and thankx for your effort...i hope everyone will benefit from this as i know some people don't know that they have to be in WUDU to touch the Holy Qura'n and that part is very important because it says that we sould all be in WUDU to touch the Holy Qura'n ...i can't remeber where but when i am in Wudu i will look for it and write back....

LuLu, the aya you're talking about is in Suret Al-Waqi3a...

"That is indeed a Quran most honourable...Which none shall touch but those who are clean"[56:77,79]

Thanks Bimmi for the useful information... as Araby said it is a personal issue ...but it worths to remeind others as they may get the benefit of applying your own tactics and strategies...

As for myself,,, (not to show myself) , I do actually memorise half the Quran, before coming to UK, 4 years ago I took part of a tournement in memorising Quran (Sultan Qaboos Tournement of Memorising Quran), I won a big prize :)

Sadly, when I left Oman, I missed the chance to join them again due to timing constraint.

As for me being busy most my time, I play Quran while doing my work sometimes so that i can memorise it always...

Well.. wish you luck guys....

Since Ramdhan is on its way.. I believe its important that we strengthen out relationship with the Quran, and try as much as we can to read and understand at least one juz2 every day (if not even more)..
