View Full Version : Expressing Doubts
There is one thread that made me think about this question. I don't want to imply that the author of the thread has doubts, she's probably just expressing herself in a way that could be misinterpreted that way.
But it's not really about her, but people in general.
Is it okay for a Muslim to express publicly and honestly doubts about his religion?
Is it okay for a Muslim to say, "Sometimes when I read this or that or I see this or that in Quran, I think: No way. I don't believe that. I don't like that." ?
If someone is feeling negative feelings or having negative ideas about Islam, what is the best way to deal with it? To sort of tell them to "shut up"? To jump on top of them and use pressure to make them feel bad? To frighten them? Maybe for their own good or society's good?
Or is it better to be patient and let them work through things with respect even if you think they are headed on the wrong path?
I know I am Muslim alhamdeallah and I know my religion Islam - but to tell the truth there are many things deep in Islam that I don't know yet !
I used think much when I was younger - and many things were kinda of strange to me to believe and I was like " this can't be that way !!! " and I was always asking my teacher and sometimes my father about it - they never told me to shut up – they were very patient with me !
They always try to give me the simple way to understand it to get the whole picture of it !
*****************
I don't think - personally - that it is a good idea to tell someone to shut up when they have some doubts about their religion - yet - we should help them get to the right way to understand it.
Some might get to understand it and some don't !
But yet - we try as much as possible and be patient with them to get them to the right path
^ Storm said it all.
the more we know about the reasons of our religion, the easier is it for us to understand and accept its rules.
we should keep learning more.

I think it can happen Jeff, but thru proper education, understanding and maturity, all things become clear. For example, when I was a little kid, my mom never allowed me to go swimming with my friends, but she had no problem if I went with my brother, I could never understand it, I hated it, but went along, a few years later I realised and appreciated her reasoning.

Everyone or lets say strict religious people are against it and they'll naturally tell you off when you haven't even gotten deeper into it, by questioning your faith. They'll say something like "How can you be a Muslim and ask that?" or something like "If you believe in God you wouldn't question his religion!" blablabla..
On the contrary, I like to think that it's alright to question your religion, because it makes you understand it more, instead of just accepting it with no say.
Anyways.. just my opinion :rn:
Islam is as simple as ABC it's a religion of INSTINCT "deen al'fitrah" it's a religion of ALL the children of the world including yours Jeff (if they haven't reach puberty age and you have mingled with their innocent brains and make them associate partners with Allah swt!!!!!)
sorry Jeff if I was a bit rude but this is just an example, if you ask any innocent child where is God or Allah swt? he will point up his finger to the sky not to the cross or to any other object which is a symbol of "shirk" or associating partners with Allah swt.
so Islam is very simple and it's a religion of instinct, and the glorious Quran is very easy to understand if you know proper Arabic even the illiterate Bedouin in the desert understood it what about us the higly educated people???? why can't we understand it???
part of it our respected Scholars and Sheiks and "Muftis" made it complicated and added too many rulings which is NOT in the glorious Quran nor in the Sunnah!!!!
the other part is we abundant our Arabic language and ran like mad dogs after other languages like English and even use it as an alternative to some Arabic words in our normal speech!!!!
it's us who confused Islam and the glorious Quran and made it hard and difficult and sometimes impossible for some to understand but the opposite is true.

Actually what you are saying makes quite good sense.

they don't tell you shut up directly, they answer in a clever way. Some quastions doesn't have answers or many questions may lead you to disbelieve in god they reply thats why they just don't think about it....and there is a phrase in quran where it says don't ask questions that will harm you more than benifit you... Plus some callings th kwame I believe that of the creater created a prevent the user Manual refute Manual is for you for the working of her condition for a purpose of creating a Manual is modified by time and even if all Humen are made of right and quran build up your the one who helped him throwing it will be the target get rid of auburn on while the one that work on building will really give life again build it up again from scratch if you haven't bought out out and got no at you find unfair maybe it is just fair if you know the real reason for it...overall most if not all have conflicting believes that mix every things up and down. In each religion you will find excuses by the followers as why it came this way to defend their believes and show that they are right in their track.
Any way, for me I believe that god ( the creater) created "humen" and did for them a user manual. This user manual is for human to use so they work in a perfect condition to serve the purpose of creating them. This user manual is modified by time as humen evolve. Humen are made to build up the earth.

The point is not if is ok or not to express them in public but what you really want to achieve
If we want to give an answer to our doubts, going around complaining with Muslims and non, won't bring us far
We will mostly waste time without clearing our doubts
We will add confusion to confusion, as also God reminds us in the Quran
The person who has doubts must go to one who has knowledge and investigate the issue in all its angles and then decide
On the other side the person who is enquired on some topic , must present all the valid opinions and explain why he/she believes in one only [am talking about interpretations] and if is not able to answer, must honestly admit it and ask to someone else who is qualified

Well, there can't be an infinite series of cause and effect...Which is why I think it's quite illogical to doubt God's existence.
Islamically speaking, no, there's nothing wrong with having doubts in your faith if you're a Muslim. But the best way is to not give in to these doubts...Personally I have never had doubts that were so unanswerable that I considered leaving Islam completely.
