I had this post in the old Sabla..I believe its a problem that many people face..so I'm gonna put my points again..

As I said before, these are my personal "techniques", and I would like to share them with you...you might also want to share with us what you have

Before you go to bed, don't forget to read the night supplications [du3a] ( eg, Amsaina wa Amsa Al-Mulku Lillah wal Hamdullilah, etc...) Also, make a pure Niyya that you want to observe fajr on time.

Set your alarm, not too early and not too late. For example if salat is at 5:00 dont set your alarm at 4:30, bacause in most cases you'll tell you self" Oh, i still have plenty of time to sleep" and there you go, you sleep and never wake up..

If you think one alarm won't wake you up, use two alarms but place them in different places of the room so that when one of them rings you have to walk a distance to get to it and put it off. Also, set one 5 minutes later than the other. For example if you set one at 5:00, set the other at 5:05.

In most cases, shaytan will till you "you still have time to sleep" so make sure that you say " A3oothu Billahi Mina Ashaytani r'rajeem".

Sometimes the weather is cold and you feel like staying tucked in bed for the whole time. Once you get this feeling, tell your self: "If being in bed has pleasure, then surely, pleasing Allah is more pleasurable"

To be continued

lol.....I admire your honesty Bimz! You mentioned in another thread that you have trouble getting up for Fajr - I sympathise entirely!

I guess the most important advice you give is there at the beginning: 'make a pure Neyya'. As a non-Muslim, I still believe that God cares more about intentions than achievements. :)

I have to admit, Mim, that I did use to have this problem! Escpecially that in Oman I had my father to wake me up every morning..but here, I had to develop my own ways..

I believe making a sinsere intention is the most important thing..some people don't bother whether they observe prayers on time or not..whereas you find other weeping for not having prayed it on time..

Another thing is that once you get used to it, it becomes easy, and you can wake up even without depending on an alarm..and as it says in teh Quran..praying can be exteremely difficult, except for those who pray payikng ful attention, and who really feel the existance of God as they are praying..

Nice topic Biimmmi as usual..
Hmmm i think I want to add one more thing about people that stay awake till an hour or before prayer times and do expect to wake up for fajir prayers?!!!!!
You should always sleep somehow early to have the streangh to wake up.....
And you know there in USA we had the idea of Mosque people to have all muslim numbers and call everyone as an alarm if they didnt have one or if they couldnt wake up,,but they didnt start doing it yet, soon inshalla. And i think that it will be a very good idea?! What do u think?!
I think this is a really nice topic Biimmmi :D keeep it up..
God bless U

God cares more about intentions than achievements.
Very true that Mimosa.
Who prayes and Pay Zakat and haj and fast and he is not merciful to the society God rejests all whats he is doing .
But Islam mean Amaal wa I3tikad ( Work and faith) why Work and faith and not faith and work ?
I will explain Mimosa You got to work on your belief to get the real faith as if you just have faith alone you will never work on anything to better your belief.
Example : You have to study for exams thats work if you think you will pass your exams with out working hard by studying you will never Pass.

Najah, calling people is a great idea too..I know many people do it..

to continue with my list...

We should alwyas keep in mind that waking up for fajr while every one else is asleep is a good time for being alone with Allah. Fajr is a good way of showing how muslims are disiplined. Can you imagine: You are waking up to meet the King of the kings and the Lord of the earth and the heavens ! what else could be greater than this?
Prophet Mohammed, may peace be upon him, has a hadeeth which roughly states that the two raka3a's you pray in Fajr are better than the whole earth including what's in it.
So, what are you waiting for?
If you have an Exam and dont finish studying before 2 oclock in the morning, then my suggestion is that you wake up for Fajr maybe half an hour before shurooq. This will leave you with enough time to sleep. Remember, Fajr prayers are valid until Shurooq time (sine rise).
If you have a muslim room mate, you should both encorauge each other for waking up for Fajr. If one of you wakes up before the other then you should wake the other person. If you are having a hard time waking the other person up, don't hesitate to splash a bit of water on his face. This method was used by the prophet, may peace be upon him, with the members of his household.

More tips :

Once the alarm ring goes on force yourself to wake up and switch on the light. Having the light switched on will change the atmosphere of the room and I'm pretty sure you won't be able to continue sleeping with the bright light turned on! [Well, some of you might ]
Read the following aya: " ان قران الفجر كان مشهودا"
That is, hundreds upon hundreds of angles will witness Qur'an Al-fajr (This also includes the Quran you read while you pray) why would you want to miss such a chance..?
Always ask guidance from Allah. Always pray to Allah that He Helps you keep up with salat Al-Fajr.
If you finish your work early and have nothing to do, it would be helpful if you sleep early instead of waisting your time watching TV,Etc...By sleeping early, you are more likely to wake up fresh and ready

I would like to add some sayings of the prophet regarding Salat Al-Fajr,,

Narrated by Aisha:The Prophet (pbuh) was never more regular and strict in offeing any Nawafil than the two Rak'a (Sunna before) Fajr prayer

The Prophet's prayers were ususally light, though...

Narrated by Aisha: The Prophet (pbuh) used to offer two rak'a before the Fajr prayer and make them so light that I would wonder whether he offered with Surat Al-Fatiha only?

As you can see, there is no need to over burden yourselves..Allah has made religion easy for us to follow

Bimmi you are the best jazki Allah alf khir Insha Allah...i find it very difficult to wake up for fajir prayers but insha Allah i will be able to get up and not let this golden chance pass me by..
Another thing i do is..wake up y friend lulu for prayers and she does the same...so when i wake up i know that i have a responsability of waking someone up and that if i dont wake up then she wont either and it makes u feel twice as bad..so having done this..i force my self ..and the al7amdulilah not only did i wake up but i woke another muslim to pray :)

Than Alot Arabian Princess for refreshing it up..
I think this Thread(THANX in millions Bimmi) Shoul allways be here at the stop...Or maybe be a sticky thread..Cause subhanna alla i read it once but i read it now and some how Bimzoris way of encoureging is so powerfull..
few weeks back..I had also difficulties in waking up.Due to the stress i had before going to bed..But thanx to alla i managed it out by asking my friend to call me and double check that am awake..And hamdulila i worked it out..
I think most of us in sometimes or other do face difficulties..But a strong faith can allways win..Specially when you see "students or workers who wake up with all kind of energy for their work an school but for salat unfortunatly Not"... such a pitty..Thats why I thank you Bimmi for such a thread as a reminder..

I also feel the need to refer to this topic from time to time.. and I'm still waiting for members to add what they have.. may Allah guide us...

Here's one extra idea:

If you have a calender infront of you, try to put a red circle around the days you havent prayed on time.. by the end of the week, see how many you have left out.... seeing there are many days circled will certainly leave you feeling guilty about it.. and so, you should work harder to decrease it..

This is a great topic which everyone should read.Fajr prayer is the one which is more prone to be left out or practised late in the day. Thanks for this topic Bimmzori and Jazaki Allah alf alf khair.I've got a simple thing to add:

Making sure that one is clean(Tahir) and reciting adhkar
(Prayers) before sleeping could help a person getting up for Fajr.

I've also felt that having a sincere intention and being determined to get up for the prayer helps in doing so.
