K...lets talk Timbaland. Now you hardly ever hear about this guy, but he is the driving force to all the phattest tracks of many of my favorite artists. In my opinion he is the best. Any time he remixes a song, it blows up. Examples:
Nelly Fortado "Turn out the Lights"
Janet Jackson "Go Deep"
Boys II Men "I can't let her go"

Plus he produces all of Missy Elliot, Ginuwine, and most all of Aaliyah's music.

Can I get a what what on that one??

You forgot to mention that he produced Tweet's "oops(oh my)" which reached #7 on the billboard hot 100!! that song and 60% of her album "Southern Humming Bird"...cool album i must add!

Timbaland Biography

Tim Mosley, was born on march 10, 1972 in Norfolk, Virginia, USA. Acclaimed hip-hop producer Tim "Timbaland" Mosley began honing his craft at age 19 under the tutelage of Jodeci soundman DeVante Swing. Timbaland has rapidly established himself as one of the hottest producers of the 90s thanks to his highly acclaimed work with hip-hop and R&B artists including Aaliyah, Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott and Ginuwine. Since the late 80s he has worked on and off with rapper Magoo, a fellow Virginian. Timbaland's concerted efforts to break into the music business bore its first fruits on Jodeci's Diary Of A Mad Band and The Show, The After-Party, The Hotel, co-writing the latter's "Bring On Da Funk". His real breakthrough came in autumn 1996, when he worked on Aaliyah's One In A Million, the follow-up to her R. Kelly -produced debut.

Timbaland worked his magic touch on stand-out tracks such as "If Your Girl Only Knew", "4 Page Letter" and "One In A Million". On a roll, he then wrote and produced hits for Ginuwine ("Pony") and SWV ("Can We"), before hooking up with Elliott, his other long-term musical partner. Timbaland and Magoo's major contributions to Elliott's Supa Dupa Fly introduced a new sound to the record-buying public. The funky syncopated beats on the hugely popular single "Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)" confirmed the arrival of a new southern dynamic to rival the traditional east oast/west coast hip-hop axis. Timbaland built on his success with October 1997's Welcome To Our World, a joint effort with Magoo that was hailed as one of the year's key albums. It was premiered by "Up Jumps Da' Boogie", a Top 10 R&B/number 12 Hot 100 hit in September. The following May's "Clock Strikes" single sampled the theme to Knight Rider, and reached number 37 on the Billboard Hot 100.

By now Timbaland was heavily in-demand as a producer, and the oundtracks for Can't Hardly Wait and Dr. Dolittle included his remixes of lliott's "Hit 'Em Wit Da' Hee", Busta Rhymes' "Turn It Up/Fire It Up", Aaliyah's "Are You That Somebody" and All Saints' "Lady Marmalade". He then worked with Elliott's prot?g?e Nicole on her August 1998 breakthrough, Make It Hot, and collaborated with Elliott on the soundtrack to Why Do Fools Fall In Love, which included Destiny Child's "Get On The Bus", Coko's "He Be Back", Total's "What The Dealio", and the Missy Elliott collaborations with Busta Rhymes ("Get Contact") and Mel B. of the Spice Girls ("I Want You Back"). Timbaland also contributed to Jay-Z's chart-topping Vol. 2 ... Hard Knock Life ("Ni*** What, Ni*** Who", "Paper Chase"), and, in November, released his debut set Tim's Bio, the soundtrack to a purported movie about his life and music. The following March saw the release of Ginuwine's eagerly awaited new set, 100% Ginuwine, and in June Elliott's sophomore set Da Real World received excellent reviews. Missy's most recent cd "Miss-E...so Addictive" had touched everyone's radio with the new but highly enjoyed sound that no one seemed to be able to top. The late Aaliyah's self titled relase with the tim produced tracks "More than a woman", "I care for you", and "we need a resolution" also hit billboards very hard. Following that, Timbaland and Magoo dropped what is their last album together, Indecent proposal thats was delayed several times and keep people dieing for its release.

True...some of his music does sound the same...judging from the success of his productions, I would think the creativity would play a part in his music... Its definitley dance music, and all in all you have to decipher whether the proof is in human opinion....or actual sales....hmmmm.....Im interested in who others think are better track masters...come with it!!

NaBHaN
24-05-02, 04:52 AM
compared to other producers..he's not really successful (aaliyah sold only two million of her latest album which was fully produced by timbaland), (missy=> 2 million as well), (mel B's single was her biggest flop reaching #11 on the u.k charts way back in 1999!), (his latest album with magoo was a big flop spending only 4 weeks on the albums chart).
his hits are only a handfull and most of them are missy's songs because she co produces her music!!
look at Jimmy Jam and terry lewis (produced all janet jackson's songs since she started, as well as mariah's "rainbow" album, and mel B's "hot" album!)..you wouldn't even believe that they did all janet's songs as every song she releases sounds different from the other! now that's what i call production and creativity!

DorellaM
24-05-02, 12:05 PM
Lets define successful here...Timbaland has been in the business for at least 10 or more years...producing tracks for numerous artists...becoming more successful with every year....I wonder why all these Big Artists would have him remix their songs???? It couldn't be his "all the same sounding boring tracks"....I guess hes got the hook up or something. Anyhow,... as far as Mel B goes, excuse my ignorance but I dont keep up with British Artists much, and why would an apple argue with an orange when hes never tasted the sweetness right?? And thank you for pointing out that Aaliyah's album has only sold 2 million copies, cause last I checked it was over 4 million ...but I guess that was from the source that was a give or take 2 million. As for Janet, Miss Jackson goes, ...Janet could sing over a wack *** country track and sell millions because of her last name. And I wont even discuss Mariah's Rainbow album cause that is the weakest Album that Mariah has ever made. Ido agree that anytime Timaband and Maggo tried to do their own stuff, it was wack...but as far as remixed and lacing others tracks..my belief is...and a I stress ....in my O-P-I-N-I-O-N....he is the stuff....Thank you for your time:D

such a good discussion am enjoying it!
--- still the floor is open about Timbaland...if any one lese has any opinion regarding him...Other wise we will go to the next artist!

NaBHaN
24-05-02, 04:52 PM
timbaland didn't produce her 4 million selling album (her debut album)..that one was produced by R.kelly !! and about janet...not all her songs are succesful..but at least they sell better than the stuff that timbaland does!
ok..another producer is Rodney"darkchalid" jerkins! he produced songs for J.lo "if you had my love#1", "D.C- say my name #1","spice girls-Holler U.K #1", "Toni braxton-He wasn't man enough #2" , "Brandy &monica-The boy is mine #1", "Michael jackson-You rock my world #10", "Brandy-What about us #7", "Whitney houston-It's not right but it's ok #4"..and the list goes on!! now that's what i call successful!!
i'm not saying that i hate the guy,...i just think that he repeats himself!
artists tend to use many remixers, and when i think of remixers i think (metro, neptunes, darkchild).
Well...this is my opinion!

@Thug...I will find his bio and pix...I was hoping Boy would do that, cause hes really good and fast at doing that.

Anyhow, I only recently became a BIG fan of his, although I liked him before. My reasons being is I can relate to alot of his music. He is so ghetto and real. For the same reason I love Tupac...are the same reasons I like DMX. I love when artists aren't afraid of being real and talking about what really goes on in the hood....love artists who arent always talking about their money and the bling bling.....hes got serious lyrics.....life lyrics. For this reason he can be too offensive for many. My fave songs are mainly from his last album and some from previous.....

Ruff Ryders Anthem
We Right Here
Shorty was Da Bomb
DamienIII

to name just a few. In his song DamienIII he is arguing with the devil....its a trip....but deep. Real deep.....I listen to his music before I play sports:D

Born Earl Simmons, on December 18, 1970 in Baltimore, Maryland, DMX was raised from an early age by his aunt in New York City's Yonkers district. He took his name from the DMX digital sound machine, and developed a reputation as a DJ on the local projects.

He won Source magazine's Unsigned Hype Award in January 1991, and released the promo single 'Born Loser' for Columbia Records the following year. He managed to escape from Columbia's punitive contract, but little was heard from him afterwards apart from a 1994 single, "Make A Move". He made a dramatic re-entry onto the hip-hop scene with a show stopping appearance on LL Cool J's "4,3,2,1". Further cameos on Mase's "24 Hours To Live", The Lox 's "Money, Power & Respect" and the remix of Ice Cube 's "We Be Clubbin'' built up a highly marketable reputation.

Newly signed to Ruff Ryders/ Def Jam Records, DMX returned to recording with the powerful "Get At Me Dog" single, a US Top 40 single built around a B.T. Express guitar sample. Marketed as a return to the chaotic, raw roots of street rap, he became hip-hop's latest sensation during 1998 when his debut album, It's Dark And Hell Is Hot, entered the US Billboard album chart at number 1. An impressive slice of east coast hardcore rap, the album centered around DMX's ferocious lyrical approach.

The follow-up, Flesh Of My Flesh, Blood Of My Blood, stayed at number 1 in the US for three weeks during January 1999. The album included cameo appearances from the Lox, Jay-Z, Mary J. Blige ("Coming From") and Marilyn Manson ("The Omen"). After contributing to the Ruff Ryders' chart-topping Ryde Or Die Vol. 1 set, DMX quickly laid down tracks for his new album. Despite being his third release in the space of two years, ... And Then There Was X was another quality slice of hardcore rap and a welcome antidote to the bland hip-hop product still flooding the American market. The album followed its predecessors to the top of the US charts in January 2000.

DMX's fourth album, The Great Depression, was no exception. Entering the charts at number 1, making him the first artist to have all four of his first albums debut at number 1. His latest, The Great Depression, replaces "Ruff Ryders Anthem" with "Bloodline Anthem," a big up to his newest allegiance at Def Jam, Bloodline records.

With only two production credits on this album, Swizz Beatz is no longer the go-to guy for X's groundbreaking grit. But that didn't stop the music from remaining as dark and daring as ever, courtesy of neophyte Black Key. The first single, "We Right Here," confirms the arrival of X, and verifies that when blending a reserved rhythm with the dog's signature snarls, his hit-making abilities are perpetual. There's also a distinctive hybrid of heavy metal and hip-hop that makes tantalizing tracks such as "I'm a Bang" and "Who We Be" slam-dancing party starters, reminiscent of Onyx and Ice-T's work with Body Count in the early '90s.

Beyond the music, X's sincere subject matters keep the album enticing. On "Shorty Was the Bomb," he reveals how one night of passion led to an ongoing problem with a wayward woman. He even attacks materialism in hip-hop on "Trina Moe," where he raps: "We already know how much your watch is worth / Talk about helping the hurt, savin' a church" (something X knows all about). DMX has a knack for turning his inner demons and desires into a soundtrack for success.

At times, The Great Depression sounds like a therapy session for X. "I Miss You" begins as a dedication to DMX's diseased grandmother, but concludes with him actually rapping to her in heaven, filling her in on the faults of family members that haven't followed her disciplinary structure. X continues on this spiritual path as he makes amends with God on "A Minute for Your Son." It's a sermon that's both eerie and astonishing because, when X cries out for acceptance, it's not from his fans or the media -- but from his creator.

Ummm....I did not see that movie, in fact I totally forgot he was in a movie....Don't know much about his personal life either....but as u listen to his music, it gives you hints about what he was about....especially his last album. On the bio that Boy posted, you will see that his last album...he pours his heart out, as the writes states it sounds like a "Therapy session". .......Anyhow....it seems as if every good rapper has their turn on top, and Ja has been holding it down for almost 2 years now. He came out before this, but he has been non-stop for a while now. I dont believe some of these guys have any business in Hollywood, but....it draws more money to the movies I guess. Ice Cube has proved to be successfull in the movie industry as a producer, and sometimes an actor....Honestly, I did not like Ja much when he was featured on Jay-Z's song "Can I get a...." but it was not long after that I started respecting his work. Of course there are not many Hip Hoppers that I don't like as I am a Hip Hop HEAD:rolleyes: .....back to the point.....He and Jennifer Lopez have kept the clubs packed.....along with Ashanti. I think his raspy deep thugged out voice is sexy;) .....and I always enjoy music that sounds good rollin down the street loud.....Hes got it!!

Hey Seniora.....good to see another B-Girl in the house..;)

As far as Ja goes, I pretty much summed it up a few replies ago, so ummm.....an artist that makes me bounce...well I hate to say this ......(no I dont)...... but anything Timbaland produces makes me bounce. MISSY ELLIOT is definitley all about BOUNCE!! Thug and I discussed her last album, and we didnt care much for it, maybe 1 or 2 songs. BUT....anytime she remixed any songs...I loved them. Her and Timba go hand in hand, and when they work together on a song.....its all about bounce. In summary, anything that I can "Back that *** up" to on the dance floor is great to me. Thats why I love the southern hip hop. Its pretty nasty at times but good on the dance floor.

EVE. she is an excellent rapper, and her lyrics, are amazing, they r so straight forward, deep cut, and to the point, maybe harsh sometimes.. but well direct at the same time.
her best songs are "whos that gal" ( la la lala)

b. Melissa Elliott, Portsmouth, Virginia, USA. Hip-hop/R&B songwriter Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott has become one of the most esteemed figures in contemporary American music, providing material for artists including MC Lyte,

Adina Howard and Jodeci, as well as working as an arranger, producer, talent scout and record boss. Elliott first performed as part of a neighbourhood singing group, Sista, who were signed up by DeVante from Jodeci in 1992. Elliott was already writing with her long-time collaborator, Tim Mosley aka Timbaland, and with Sista's career terminally stalled (DeVante would not release any of their recordings) she concentrated on songwriting and production. Her distinctive "hee haw" rap on Gina Thompson's "The Things You Do" brought her wider exposure, and several offers from record companies. Fiercely independent and ambitious, Elliott signed to Elektra Records as a solo artist on the understanding that they would subsidise her own label, Gold Mind Records. In 1997, she launched her solo career with the album Supa Dupa Fly and attendant single "The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)".
The well-connected Elliott was provided with immediate exposure for the song via rotation play of its Hype Williams-directed video on MTV. Co-produced with long-time collaborator Timbaland and producer DJ Magic, the album received excellent reviews, though Elliott was reluctant to commit herself fully to a career as a performer: "I don"t want to get caught up and be an artist always on the go, because once you do that, it's hard to get into the studio and do what I do.' The album also featured cameo appearances from Aaliyah and Busta Rhymes (Elliott has written songs for both). Despite her growing reputation and success, Elliott remained based in her hometown in Virginia. In September 1998 she collaborated with Mel B from the Spice Girls on the one-off single, "I Want You Back", which debuted at number 1 in the UK chart. Further writing and remixing work for Whitney Houston and Janet Jackson followed, although Elliott found time in her busy schedule to release her excellent sophomore set, Da Real World, in July 1999. Incredibly, Elliott and Timbaland managed to surpass this with the follow-up Miss E ... So Addictive, a stunning compendium of contemporary dance beats, urban ballads and left-field samples that was instantly hailed as one of the finest albums of the new millennium.

Philadelphia's Eve Jihan Jeffers got her first break in the record business the way many rappers go platinum -- she walked right through the front door.

The story goes something like this:

Some of her friends (who now serve as her managers) hooked up with producer extraordinaire Dr. Dre and arranged an imprompt audition for Eve -- well, kinda,...they never told him that she was coming. "Out of nowhere they put the tape on and I stood up and started rapping and he was looking at me like, 'Why is this girl rapping?'," recalls Eve. Liking what he saw after only a few bars, the executive cut the audition short and promised to bring Eve to California to work with the good Dr. -- Eve was not impressed. "I had been through a lot of auditions," she admits, "so I thought, 'If he calls, he calls; if he don't, he don't.'

But he called the next day - I had auditioned for him on a Saturday and that Sunday he called and told me I had to be out there by Friday." Eve moved out to L.A. Dr. Dre put her in the studio, where she completed a three songs demo tape. "Eve of Destruction," one of the songs from those sessions, wound up on the Bulworth Soundtrack.

Unfortunately, Dr. Dre was still overseeing the growth of his fledgling label, and Eve's one-year contract with Aftermath expired before she could get to work on her album. "I believe that everything happens for a reason," says a pragmatic Eve. "The music that I really wanted to write at the time wasn't coming through me." While still in L.A., Eve forged a bond with a rising star named DMX, who she met through producer Mail Man, while X was in town promoting his debut album, It's Dark And Hell Is Hot.

When she moved back to Philly, Eve would come to New York and hang out with the rest of the Ruff Ryder's camp. Soon enough, Eve was invited to join Ruff Ryders Records through a trial by fire. "The way I was signed was in a cipher," Eve remembers. "I had to go up against [Ruff Ryders emcees] Drag-On and Infa Red - I was shook. If I was wack, Ruff Ryders wouldn't have signed me." The fact that you're reading this let's you know she wasn't wack.

If you're still not convinced, check her sexy yet hardcore appearances on the Roots' "You Got Me," the remix to "Ruff Ryders Anthem" from DJ Clue?'s The Professional and BLACKstreet's "Girlfriend/Boyfriend" - not to mention her work on Ryde Or Die, the Ruff Ryders' compilation album. Her verses are affirmations of self, recognition, and braggadocio rhyme skills. "I know who I am now and where I wanna take myself and what I wanna show the world," she says.

As early as third grade, Eve was winning school merit awards for her short stories, plays and poems. "I had a real good imagination," she assesses. In her early teens she was part of a 5-girl singing group, covering tunes by En Vogue and Color Me Badd.

Around the time Michael Bivin's ABC came out, the group's manager suggested they start rapping. Known as Eve of Destruction, she excelled at rhyming, graduating from cafeteria battles to "stomping all over" Philly's talent show scene and serving as opening act for local rap concerts as part of a female emcee duo named EDJP (pronounced "Egypt") -- all this is before the prominence of the female emcee.

"Now, it's more like rapping is the thing right now," Eve observes. "Before, when I was in high school, it really wasn't big -- especially for girls to be rapping." "I would really like my stage name to be just Eve," she says noting that many people refer to her by the moniker she carried while laying her hip-hop foundation.

"Certain people still call me Eve of Destruction. I don't mind it 'cause I'm still her -- I'm still destroying emcees."

i think she's gonna be around for quite some time..especially since she managed to break into both U.S and U.k markets!! it's really rare that you find that happening , mostly due to the difference in the music taste between the two countries!

What are the difference in music taste?? I know they are in to Pop alot, but maybe you can enlighten me on what they listen to, cause you darn well dont hear much British music here in the US. The only british I have heard is of course Slick Rick...(who I ablsolutely love)...and The Spacey Girls...and Craig David. ...whats popular out there???

well...u.k people are really into pop/techno..and any form of dance music!! you won't imagine how they love dance!! missy's song "4 my people" entered the chart at #33 last year..but when it got remixed it entered at #4!! that's how much they love techno !! and they're really into Robbie Williams, and The new singer (winner of a Pop show) William Young who's currently in at #1!! his first single broke the record of the best selling single in one week time!! and loads more!!
you can always check out the U.K charts at: www.dotmusic.com to know more about their taste in music. ;)

they're ok i suppose...nothing really special about them though...just another american boy band trying to make it big!! they did quite well though. their debut album went strait to #2 on the billboard albums chart without even having a hit single (the first single Uh,Huh sold almost half a million copies but didn't even enter the top 20), but who cares about the top 20!! half a million is more than enough to make them huge , last years #1 single which spent 7 weeks at the top (janet jackson-all for you) didn't even reach the half million status!! so..there you have it!

Im not a big Boy Band fan, and infact not crazy about the face of R&B in the 21st century. I liked R&B in the 90's....R.Kelly, Jodeci, Toni Braxton, but the only R&B group I like lately is Jagged Edge (and my man Ginuwine). I just dont like all the sappy stuff I guess :o

I think Badoora stated it nicely with this:
they are kids & thier songs are not mature

his Styles :Progressive Trance, Progressive House, Trance, Club/Dance, House ....

Multi-talented North Wales native Sasha has become one of the world's most renowned and popular DJs.
His sound and technique become so popular that a Renaissance compilation was released, one of the very first DJ mix albums to ever hit the record stores.

Sasha refuses to limit himself to DJ work, however; he collaborated with singer Maria Naylor on the Top 20 hit "Be as One," and remixed tracks from such popular artists as the Pet Shop Boys, Simply Red, and M-People. He also formed his own record company, Excession Recordings, and wrote originals for Deconstruction.

Bryan Adams
[ Born: November 5, 1959 as Bryan Guy Adams in Kingston, Ontario ]

One of the busiest singer-songwriters in the music industry, Kingston, Ontario-born Bryan Adams (b. Nov. 1959) has enjoyed major success on three levels: as a songwriter who's written hits for other artists; as a recording artist whose own work has met huge international acclaim; and as a captivating live performer, whose memorable appearances at Live-Aid and on Amnesty International's Conspiracy Of Hope tour helped cement his status as an international superstar. Adams's songs, in fact, helped pave the way for his own record deal. While performing with a local Vancouver group as a teen, Adams met drummer Jim Vallance in 1977 and immediately began a songwriting partnership that still functions today. The pair's songs--typically an appealing blend of hard-edged rock and sweet, hook-heavy pop--were soon being covered by such artists as Bachman-Turner Overdrive, Ian Lloyd, and Prism. By 1979, A&M Canada had signed Adams--but ironically, considering Adams's rock roots, his label debut was a dance single called "Let Me Take You Dancing" which reportedly speeded up Adams's voice and "made me sound like a chipmunk," he complained later. Directionally, it was a fluke for the artist, and wasn't included on his self-titled debut album, which was co-produced by Adams and Vallance and released in 1980.

Adams's first major hit came in 1983, with his own version of a track he had written three years earlier. "Straight From The Heart" had, in fact, appeared in very similar form on singer Ian Lloyd's 1980 album 3WC (as did, for that matter, the Adams/Vallance song "Lonely Nights"). From Adams's third album, the pivotal Cuts Like A Knife, "Straight" soared to the top 10 and led the way for two more hits, "Cuts Like A Knife" and "This Time." In what must have been harrowing for Adams--but inarguably productive--the singer spent 283 full days on the road in '83, promoting the album and, clearly, himself as a performing property. The payoff? His quintuple-platinum follow-up, 1984's Reckless, which held the No. 1 slot for two weeks and held a staggering six top 20 singles--including Adams's first-ever No. 1 single, "Heaven," also found on the soundtrack to 20th Century-Fox's 1983 film A Night In Heaven. Further notice that Adams had internationally arrived came via his July '85 Live-Aid performance, viewed by millions; following one of the more memorable moments of that show--Adams's energetic duet with Tina Turner on "It's Only Love"--the Reckless single was later nudged up the charts to No. 15. Also keeping Adams in the international spotlight was his work on 1985's Ethiopian famine relief single "Tears Are Not Enough," by Canadian superstar group Northern Lights.

While Adams's 1987 album Into The Fire couldn't accurately be called a failure--it did surpass platinum, it did contain three singles that hit the Top 40--it wasn't the sales monster many in the industry had expected. Regardless, Adams continued to maintain a high profile during the late '80s via his spot on the Amnesty International tour, as well as appearances at the Prince's Trust Charity, the 1988 London Freedomfest honoring Nelson Mandela, and Roger Waters's 1990 production of The Wall in Berlin.

Anyone predicting a downward slide for Adams's career got a powerful wake-up call in 1991. From the hit film Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves came the record of Adams's career--"(Everything I Do) I Do It For You," a No. 1 for seven weeks and the biggest-selling single in the history of A&M Records. It helped boost Adams's long-awaited album Waking Up The Neighbours past the triple-platinum mark, and pushed him back into superstar-selling range once more. And with that album, keen-eyed observers noticed a change: Adams's new producer, Robert John "Mutt" Lange, was now also his new songwriting partner, co-credited on each song, including four also co-credited to longtime Adams crony Jim Vallance. Why the change? At one point early in his career, Bryan Adams had said, "If you ask me what I do for a living, I'd have to say that I'm a songwriter first." Adams would later have massive success with the singles "All For Love"--a platinum track sung with Sting and Rod Stewart, from the Three Musketeers soundtrack--and the 1995 No. 1 hit "Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman?"

So what do you think about Pac Boy?? Well me, I think he is the greatest and I feel that this is an understatement. WHY??

Because, his omni-relational, open minded, way of rhyming. He wrote a rhyme for anyone and everyone. Plus he talked about things that made you say "Dang, I can't believe he just said that"

I can relate to soooo much of his music. There is meaning in every verse, of every song. I could go on.. and on....but I wont...

Tupac Amaru Shakur (1971-1996)

Tupac Shakur was born in New York City to Afeni Shakur, a member of the Black Panther Party who was pregnant with him while in jail on bombing charges. The name Tupac Amaru comes from the Incas meaning "shining serpent" and Shakur is Arabic meaning "thankful to God." In 1986, Shakur's family moved to Baltimore, Maryland, where Tupac enrolled in the Baltimore School for the Arts. At the age of 15, Tupac wrote his first rap song under the name of M.C. New York. Everything was going well for Tupac until 1988 when his family moved to a small city outside of Oakland, California. Shortly after the move, Tupac moved in with a neighbor and started to sell drugs. Later that year Tupac's stepfather, Mutulu Shakur, was sentenced to 60 years in prison for his involvement in a 1981 armored-car robbery.

With all of the troubles around himself and his family, Tupac joined the Grammy-nominated rap group Digital Underground as a roadie/dancer /rapper. After touring with Digital Underground in 1990, Tupac released his first solo album in '91. Tupac received much recognition for his album, 2pacalypse Now, which spawned the successful singles "Trapped" and "Brenda's Got A Baby."

With the individual success that Tupac had received with his musical talent, he wanted to prove to the world that he was not just a rapper. In 1992, Tupac appeared in the Earnest ****erson film "Juice." Within the next two years, Tupac appeared in the John Singleton movie, "Poetic Justice" with Janet Jackson, and "Above The Rim."

Legal troubles put a damper on the success of Tupac when in the fall of 1994 he was arrested on sexual assault charges in New York. Later that month Tupac was shot in an apparent robbery attempt outside a music studio in New York. After being shot, Tupac was convicted of sexually abusing a woman he had invited to his hotel room. He was acquitted of sodomy and weapons charges.

Tupac was back in the studio in early '95 and released the multi-million selling album, Me Against The World. In February of 1995, Tupac was sentenced to 4 1/2 years in prison for sex abuse. After eight months in prison, Tupac was released on bail while he appealed the sentence.

Riding on the success of Me Against The World, Tupac released his fourth solo album, All Eyez On Me, which debuted at No.1 on Billboard' album chart. The album went on to sell five million copies.

On September 7, 1996, the world was shocked to here that Tupac Shakur was shot in an apparent drive-by in Las Vegas. Five days later, Tupac was pronounced dead. After his death, many questions have been raised about whether or not Tupac was really shot. To this day, many believe the questions remain unanswered.

well..most songs are from real life..so..you can't really say that it's only 2 pac who does it!!

But you can say that 2 Pac does it best!!

...to me his music sounds the same!!

The same as what? His other music?? or maybe all rap music sounds the same, since your into pop right??

Anyhow, I encourage you to read the lyrics of 3 different songs of his and compare them. Youll find that the only similarities are that they all are DEEP!!....another similarity is that he talks about the hood, and life in it. Some of his tracks sound alike, but the lyrics are what I listen for....

Hip/Hop is the only genre of music that i don't really like.i just can't stand all of that rapping with the same backround of music during the whole song!!!!

OK COOL....lets get on to MADONNA!!!!!!!

I would call Madonna the QUEEN OF POP
and Tupac the KING OF RAP/Hip Hop....

I love Madonna, she's dope,.....I love her Immaculate collection album. I didnt really care for her last album. Sounded kinda techno-ish, which I dont care for much. Now techno is music with the same background music. One beat....the whole song:rolleyes:

NaBHaN
04-07-02, 01:37 PM

Born Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone, 16 August 1958, Rochester Michigan, USA. Madonna excelled at dance and drama at high school and during brief periods at colleges in Michigan and North Carolina. In 1977 she went to New York, studying with noted choreographer Alvin Ailey and taking modelling jobs. Two years later, Madonna moved to France to join a show featuring disco singer Patrick Hernandez. There she met Dan Gilroy and, back in New York, the pair formed club band the Breakfast Club. Madonna played drums and sang with the band before setting up Emmy in 1980 with Detroit-born drummer Steve Bray. Together, Madonna and Bray created dance tracks which led to a recording deal with Sire Records. With leading New York disc jockey Mark Kamins producing, she recorded 'Everybody', a US club hit in 1982. Madonna broke out from the dance scene into mainstream pop with 'Holiday', written and produced by John 'Jellybean' Benitez. It reached the US Top 20 and was a Top 10 hit across Europe in 1984. By now, her tough, raunchy persona was coming across to international audiences and the attitude was underlined by the choice of Tom Kelly and Billy Steinberg's catchy 'Like A Virgin' as a 1984 single. It was the first of ten US number 1 hits for Madonna. Among these top 10 hits was 'Material Girl', the video for which introduced one of her most characteristic visual styles, the mimicking of Marilyn Monroe's 'blonde bombshell' image. By the time of the Live Aid concert, at which she appeared, and her high-profile wedding to actor Sean Penn, Madonna had become an internationally recognized superstar, known to millions of tabloid newspaper readers without any interest in her music. Among the fans of her work were a growing number of 'wannabees', teenage girls who aped her independent and don't-care stance.

From 1985-87, she turned out a stream of irresistibly catchy hit singles. 'Crazy For You' was co-written by ex- Carpenters collaborator John Bettis, while she and Steve Bray wrote 'Into The Groove'. These were followed by 'Dress You Up' and 'Papa Don't Preach', with its message of generational rebellion. 'True Blue', 'Open Your Heart' and 'La Isla Bonita' were later successes. Like an increasing number of her songs, 'Who's That Girl' (1987) was tied-in to a film - in this instance, a poorly received comedy in which she starred with Sir John Mills. Madonna's film career had begun in 1980 with a minor role in the b-movie A Certain Sacrifice before she starred in Desperately Seeking Susan (1985). In Shanghai Surprise (1986), Madonna appeared with Penn, from whom she separated in 1988. In that year, she also appeared on Broadway in the play Speed The Plow by David Mamet. Madonna continued to attract controversy when, in 1989, the video for 'Like A Prayer', with its links between religion and eroticism, was condemned by the Vatican and caused Pepsi-Cola to cancel a sponsorship deal with the star. The resulting publicity helped the album of the same title - co-produced with new collaborator Patrick Leonard - to become a global bestseller.

In 1990, her career reached a new peak of publicity and commercial success. She starred with Warren Beatty in the blockbuster film **** Tracy, while the extravagant costumes and choreography of the Blond Ambition world tour were the apotheosis of Madonna's uninhibited melange of sexuality, song, dance and religiosity. The tour was commemorated by a documentary film, Truth Or Dare On The Band Behind The Scenes, And In Bed With Madonna, released in 1991. Among the hits of the early 90s were 'Vogue', devoted to a short-lived dance craze, 'Justify My Love' (co-written with Lenny Kravitz ) and 'Rescue Me', produced by Madonna and Shep Pettibone. Madonna's reputation as a strong businesswoman, in control of each aspect of her career, was confirmed in 1992 when she signed a multi-million dollar deal with the Time-Warner conglomerate, parent company of Sire. This guaranteed the release of albums, films and books created by her own Maverick production company. The publication of her graphic and erotic book Sex put her back on top of the charts, though this time it was in the bestselling book lists. The book was an unprecedented success, selling out within hours and needing an immediate reprint. On Bedtime Stories she teamed up with Soul II Soul producer Nellee Hooper, who wrote the title track in conjunction with Björk. It was prefaced by the Top 10 performance of 'Secret', and boasted 11 tracks that combined, by her own description, pop, R&B, hip-hop and Madonna. In 1996 her need to shock had mellowed considerably with a credible movie portrayal of Eva Peron in Evita. Later that year she became 'with child' on 14 October with the birth of Lourdes Maria Ciccone Leon. She returned to music with 1998's Ray of Light, one of her finest recordings to date. Collaborating with dance producer William Orbit, Madonna positively revelled in a new-found musical freedom. Her voice had also matured into a rich and expressive instrument.

The album generated several transatlantic hit singles, including "Frozen" (a UK chart-topper), "Ray Of Light", "Drowned World (Substitute For Love)", "The Power Of Good-bye", and "Nothing Really Matters". "Beautiful Stranger", taken from the soundtrack to the Mike Myers' movie Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, reached number 2 in the UK charts in June 1999. Another soundtrack, for the movie The Next Best Thing, co-written and co-produced by Madonna and Orbit, was released on the singer's Maverick label. It featured her new single, a reworking of Don McLean's classic "American Pie". She worked with Orbit and French dance producer Mirwais on her next collection, Music, the title track of which was a transatlantic chart-topper in September 2000. Shortly before the release of the album, on 11 August, the singer gave birth to her second child, Rocco. On 22 December, she married the UK film director Guy Ritchie in Scotland.

Do u think she is a good actor?
umm...well...she's ok, not great though..the only movies i like of hers were a league of their own (tom hanks, madonna, gena davis) , Who's that girl, and Evita (which she won a golden globe for her role as eva peron)!! the rest were just blah!! lets hope her new movie directed by her husband Guy richie (Snatch, Lock stock and two smoking barrols) is gonna good!!
http://www.sindrismadonnapage.com/smp/galleries/1996-evita/pix/evita-film_022.jpg

why the big publicity about her baby gal!?

She Likes to live in UK because she wants to rise her daughter in a better way!!!??? is that true?
i don't think so..i think she's living in the u.k because her husban lives there, and so..she moved there!! not to forget that most of the people she works with are from the U.k or near the U.k!(producers william orbit, mirwais, and now Air)!!

Madonna-the first album
http://www.sindrismadonnapage.com/smp/discography/83_madonna/thumbnails/madonna-album.jpg

Interesting Facts:
'Madonna' [also known as 'The First Album' outside of the US] got things started for Madonna, although she had already released 2 singles ['Everybody' and 'Burning Up'] before recording the entire album.

Another track called 'Ain't No Big Deal' was supposed to be on the album but got replaced at last minute with 'Holiday' - good choice since 'Holiday' was Madonna's breakthrough song! 'Ain't No Big Deal' got released later as the B-Side of 'Papa Don't Preach' in 1986 and also appeared on a Sampler LP called Revenge Of The Killer B's.

- Madonna herself co-wrote 5 out of the 8 songs included on the album - and she even played the 'cowbelle' [as refrenced in the album-credits]

Like a virgin
http://www.sindrismadonnapage.com/smp/discography/84_lav/thumbnails/lav-album.jpg

Interesting Facts:
'Like A Virgin', Madonna's 2nd album, was released hot on the heels of her first album in November 1984 and shot immediately to the Number 1 spot in the US Billboard Album charts. Many other countries followed and 'Like A Virgin' remains one of the biggest selling albums by a female artist [with an estimated sales-number of 20 million world-wide].

The single for 'Like A Virgin' was the biggest hit in 1985, staying at the Number 1-position for 6 straight weeks. It was Madonna's biggest hit in the '80s.

Not only the songs, even the cover-image of 'Like A Virgin' established Madonna's image as a high-gloss, sexy bad girl. Stylist and designer Maripol [responsible for a lot of different looks of Madonna in her early career] called it a "bride of Satan" look.

'Like A Virgin' is dedicated to all the virgins in the world.

Warner Bros. decided to release a remastered version of 'Like A Virgin' in 2001 [just in time for her Drowned World Tour]. It included 2 dance mixes that previously were only available as B-Sides.

True Blue

http://www.sindrismadonnapage.com/smp/discography/86_tb/thumbnails/tb-album.jpg

Interesting Facts:

'True Blue' is the very first album that was co-produced by Madonna. She worked for the very first time with Patrick Leonard who continued to work with Madonna up to her 'Ray Of Light'-era. Leonard about the recording-sessions of the album: "Making a record can be very difficult, but this one wasn't at all. It was fun and easy because Madonna is such a pleasant person to be around."

Madonna and her collaborators started working on the album in December 1985.

The whole album was dedicated to Madonna's then-husband Sean Penn, in her own words: "This album is dedicated to my husband, the coolest guy in the universe."

The song 'White Heat' is dedicated to actor Jimmy Cagney. The intro one can hear on the song that is spoken by Cagney himself is taken from the 'Public Enemy'-movie.

The song 'Spotlight' was initially also included on the album but got dropped for a later release on the 1987-album You Can Dance.

An early demo-version of 'Open Your Heart' was recorded by long-time Madonna backup-singer Donna DeLory but Madonna recorded her own version in the end.

'Live To Tell', the first single from the album, was also featured in the movie 'At Close Range' with Sean Penn and Christopher Walken. The movie was directed by James Foley who also directed the following Madonna-videos: Live To Tell, Papa Don't Preach and True Blue. He later also directed the movie Who's That Girl.

'True Blue' was Number 1 in 28 countries at the very same time while selling an enourmous [estimated] 20 million copies worldwide.

Warner Bros. decided to release a remastered version of 'True Blue ' in 2001 [just in time for her Drowned World Tour]. It included 2 dance mixes that previously were only available as B-Sides

Who's that girl

http://www.sindrismadonnapage.com/smp/discography/87_wtg/thumbnails/wtg-album.jpg

Interesting Facts:
'Who's That Girl' is the soundtrack of the same-titled movie Madonna did in 1987. While the movie was another flop in Madonna's movie career, the soundtrack and the singles from the album did very well in the worldwide charts.

'Can't Stop' is clearly influenced by 'I Can't Help Myself' which Madonna also integrated into a medley she performed at the 'Who's That Girl Tour' in the same year.

The album - that included 'only' 4 Madonna-songs - sold an estimated 7-8 million copies worldwide up to today.

You can dance

http://www.sindrismadonnapage.com/smp/discography/87_ycd/thumbnails/ycd-single-edits-album.jpg

Interesting Facts:
Rather than releasing a Greatest Hits-Album, Madonna decided to have some of her biggest dance hits newly remixed and have them sequenced into one another. The whole album is litterally one mega-mix!

The concept for such an album was innovative at that time and was soon copied by artists such as Paula Abdul, Janet Jackson and Michael Jackson.

The album sold a stunning 6 million copies worldwide up to today and was the biggest selling remix album until Michael Jackson's 'Blood On The Dancefloor' in 1997.

The only new song on the album is 'Spotlight'. It was actually recorded for the 'True Blue'-album but didn't made it on it in the end. 'Spotlight' was only released as a single in Japan.

The cover-image was photographed by Herb Ritts during the filming of a Mitsubishi-commercial for the Japanese market in 1987.

Like a prayer
http://www.sindrismadonnapage.com/smp/discography/89_lap/thumbnails/lap-album-tn.jpg

Interesting Facts:
Madonna's fourth full-length studio album was also her most critically acclaimed at that time. It showed a completely different Madonna with her most personal lyrics ever. It was also the first time that Madonna's face didn't appear on the front sleeve. Instead, we see a close-up shot of her hands. It is a powerful statement that made it clear that Madonna had not only matured musically, she also matured personally.

- The first pressing of the 'Like A Prayer' LP's and CD's were scented with patchouli oil - which gave the listener the ultimate oppurtunity to listen to the album while smelling Madonna's favorite scent.

Also included was an AIDS factsheet .It was the very first time a pop artist had ever included AIDS information with a product.

'Like A Prayer' is dedicated to Madonna's mother, Madonna Ciccone-Fortin. Madonna in her own words: "This album is dedicated to my mother who taught me how to pray".

Madonna does also thank "her home girls" in the liner notes of the album: Liz [Rosenberg - her former publicist], Mel [Melissa Crow - her former assistant], Debi [Mazar - one of her best friends and former make-up artist] and Sandy [Sandra Bernhard - one of her former best friends].

'80s superstar Prince collaborated with Madonna on 'Love Song' - Madonna's very first song in which she sings / speaks in French. Prince also co-produced the last song of the album, 'Act Of Contrition' - credited only as 'The Powers That Be'. 'Act Of Contrition' is based on 'Like A Prayer' itself - played BACKWARDS!!!

Marilyn Martin appears as a background singer on the album. Marilyn released an own album called 'This Is Serious' which included a song that was written by Madonna and Patrick Leonard. Title of the song: 'Possesive Love' [Also released as a single].

I'm Breathless
http://www.sindrismadonnapage.com/smp/discography/90_breathless/thumbnails/breathless-album.jpg

Interesting Facts:
Madonna's follow-up album to 'Like A Prayer' was also the soundtrack for the **** Tracy-movie [In which Madonna plays the role of Breathless Mahoney].

Only 3 of the 12 tracks were actually from the '**** Tracy'-movie itself: 'Sooner Or Later', 'More' and 'What Can You Lose'. All three tracks were written by Broadway composer Stephen Sondheim. 'Sooner Or Later' won an Academy Award in 1991 as 'Best Song from a Motion Picture' - not to forget is Madonna's legendary performance of the song at the Oscars.

'I'm Breathless' is Madonna's least succesful album featuring new material to date. It has sold an estimated 6 million copies worldwide.

The album contained only 2 released singles: 'Vogue' and 'Hanky Panky'. 'Vogue' was initially meant as B-Side for the 'Keep It Together'-Single but - thankfully - got released on its own. It remains as one of Madonna's most popular and biggest selling hits of the '90s.

Singer Mandy Patinkin is duetting with Madonna on 'What Can You Lose' [Also seen in the movie] and Warren Beatty is heard on 'Now I'm Following You'.

The immaculate collection

http://www.sindrismadonnapage.com/smp/discography/90_tic/thumbnails/tic-album-tn.jpg

Interesting Facts:
Madonna's very first Greatest Hits was released in November 1990. It included Madonna's biggest hits from 1983-1990 and included 2 new songs.

Also released was a Limited Edition-package of the album, called 'The Royal Box'. It included the CD-Album in a silk digipack, a video, a postcard-set and a poster. It is out of print nowadays and a sought-after collector's item.

'Justify My Love', released as a single prior to the release of the album, remains one of Madonna's most controversial songs - especially because of its racy video. The song was co-written by Lenny Kravitz.

The video, banned from TV, gave the album a major boost and it lingered on Billboard's album charts for more than 2 years.

'The Immaculate Collection' is the biggest selling Greatest Hits-Album by a female artist ever. It has sold more than 22 million copies worldwide.

Madonna dedicated 'The Immaculate Collection' to 'The Pope', her divine inspiration. If you think Madonna's talking about the real catholic Pope think again: It's her brother Christopher Ciccone she's talking about. His nickname is 'The Pope'.

Erotica

http://www.sindrismadonnapage.com/smp/discography/92_erotica/thumbnails/erotica-album-dirty-tn.jpg

Interesting Facts:
'Erotica' is without a question Madonna's most underrated work to date. It was released in the wake of the hyper-controversial 'Erotica'-Video and the Sex-Book. Reviewers - and fans - did pay more attention to the general event than to the songs. A terrible mistake.

It's the first Madonna-album that was released on her very own Maverick Record Label which she founded the very same year in April 1992 together with former manager Freddy DeMann. The name Maverick is a combination of their first names: MAdonna VEronica + FredeRICK

The album features one of the rare cover-versions Madonna has done in her career: 'Fever' - originally from Peggy Lee and also interpreted by Elvis Presley. 'Fever' wasn't planned to be featured in the album originally, instead Madonna had recorded a song called 'Goodbye To Innocence'. 'GTI' got later released on the Warner-Sampler 'Just Say Roe'.

All pictures in the 'Erotica'-Booklet have been photographed by Steven Meisel - who was also responsible for the pictures in Madonna's 'Sex'-Book. In case you were wondering: It's NOT super-model's Naomi Campbell's toe Madonna is sucking on the back-cover - it's Tony Ward's toe!

'Erotica' isn't one of Madonna's best selling albums but has sold an estimated 7-8 million copies worldwide.

Madonna worked for most parts of the album with Shep Pettibone. He previously had collaborated with her on 'Vogue' and 'Rescue Me'.

Bedtime Stories

http://www.sindrismadonnapage.com/smp/discography/94_bs/thumbnails/bs-reg-album.jpg

Interesting Facts:
After the 'Erotica / Sex'-backlash, this album saw Madonna working with the creme-de-la-creme of hip hop. Rather than doing again an album about love and sex, this album was about romance. Still, Madonna couldn't pass the chance to tell her critics that she's "Not sorry" and that she has "Absolutely no regrets" with the song 'Human Nature'.

Madonna also worked with Nellee Hooper on the album who got worldwide recognition for his work on Bjork's first solo-album 'Debut'. Besides some other tracks, he co-wrote / co-produced 'Bedtime Story' which is based on Bjork's B-Side Song 'Sweet Intuition'. Despite general believe, Bjork herself had little input on the song except some lines she wrote that also appear on the original 'Sweet Intuition' track. However, 'Bedtime Story' is undeniably a very Bjork-ish song and showed Madonna's interest in electronical music. It's the most out-standing track on an album that is otherwise mainly based on hip hop / R'n'B.

'Bedtime Stories' contains one of Madonna's biggest hits of the 90's: 'Take A Bow' was holding the #1 position for a total of 7 weeks in the US Billboard Charts. Ironically, it's Madonna's least successful single ever in the UK, peaking at #16

Something to remember

http://www.sindrismadonnapage.com/smp/discography/95_str/thumbnails/str-regular-album.jpg

Interesting Facts:
Madonna's third compilation album is no Greatest Hits-Album, it's a collection of her greatest ballad hits. Most notable is that this also includes songs that haven't been released as singles, such as 'Something To Remember' [from I'm Breathless] and 'Forbidden Love' [from Bedtime Stories].

Madonna herself says in the liner notes of the booklet: "So much controversy has swirled around my career this past decade that very little attention ever gets paid to my music. The songs are all but forgotten. While I have no regrets regarding the choices I've made artistically, I've learned to appreciate the idea of doing things in a simpler way. So without a lot of fanfare, without any distractions, I present you this collection of ballads. Some are old, some are new - All of them are from my heart. Special thankx to all who have contributed to the music on this album. I am eternally grateful."

Madonna worked again with Nellee Hooper on one of the tracks. 'I Want You' is a cover-version of the Marvin Gaye-classic and she recorded it together with Massive Attack.

Strangely, the song was never released as a single, yet a video of it was released. The song was originally intended for a release on the Marvin Gaye Tribute Album 'Inner City Blues', but thankfully it also found its way onto Madonna's very own album.

Evita

http://www.sindrismadonnapage.com/smp/discography/96_evita/thumbnails/evita-reg-album.jpg

Interesting Facts:
'Evita' is probably Madonna's most ambitious project as of yet. She had to take voice-lessons for her singing [She thanks her voice-trainer Joan Lader "for helping me find my voice" in the booklet] and put on hold any other projects for almost 3 years for her role in the film.

Two versions were released of the 'Evita'-Soundtrack: One Regular Album that contains the most important songs from the film and a 2 CD-Set that contains all the songs from the film.

'You Must Love Me' is the only new song for the movie that wasn't included on the original stage-version of the musical. The song united lyrics-writer Tim Rice and music-writer Andrew Lloyd Webber after 13 years of not working with each other. They wrote the song specifically for the film. It was the first single released from the soundtrack in September 1996.

'You Must Love Me' won an Academy Award for Best Original Song From A Motion Picture at the Oscars in March 1997. Madonna performed the song on stage, but declined to accept the Award together with Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice afterwards due to the fact that the Academy didn't nominate her in the Best Actress-category.

'You Must Love Me' is also the winner of a Golden Globe-Award as Best Original Song in 1997.

Ray of light

http://www.sindrismadonnapage.com/smp/discography/98_rol/thumbnails/rol-regular-tn.jpg

Interesting Facts:
'Ray Of Light' is without a question Madonna's most personal album since 1989's 'Like A Prayer' and she was very up-front in showing her interest in eastern spirituality. She decided again to work with longtime collaborator Patrick Leonard and with newcomer William Orbit who was responsible for the electronic feel of the album.

Working on 'Ray Of Light' began first in May 1997 when Madonna first met with Babyface, responsible for her biggest single in the '90s, 'Take A Bow'. They both came up with a couple of songs before Madonna changed her idea about the album's direction. Babyface was dropped from the project and Madonna turned to Rick Nowels, best known for his work with singers such as Celine Dion, Stevie Nicks and Belinda Carlisle. They wrote 7 songs in nine days, 3 of them ended up on the album. Still, there was no sign of the future electronic direction the album would take. Madonna wrote some more songs with long time collaborator Patrick Leonard and ended up producing the songs with British techno-wizard William Orbit.

The recording of 'Ray Of Light' was completed over a four-and-a-half-month period, the longest ever for a singer who likes to keep her artistic process spontaneous, focused, and fast. Most of the time there were only four people in the studio - Orbit, Madonna, engineer Pat McCarthy, and his assistand engineer Matt Silva - together with mountains of machinery.

Before releasing songs from the album, Madonna tested the songs by playing them at Club Liquid in Miami which is owned by her friend Ingris Casares.

'Ray Of Light' contains exactly 13 songs because Madonna believes that 13 is a lucky number - according to the Kaballah. Only the Japanese Version of the album contains 14 tracks. It is featuring the song 'Has To Be' which otherwise is only available as a B-Side on the 'Ray Of Light'-Single. Also notable is that 'Ray Of Light' is Madonna's 13th album!

Madonna presented 3 songs from 'Ray Of Light' live on stage at the Roxy in New York City on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1998, in front of 2'000 people. It was her very first club performance in 10 years! Performed songs were: 'Sky Fits Heaven', 'Shanti / Ashtangi' and 'Ray Of Light'.

Other considered titles for 'Ray Of Light' were 'Mantra', 'Sutra' and 'Drowned World'.

'Skin' was originally to be called 'Flirtation Dance'.

A Remix-Album of 'Ray Of Light' was originally planned for an Autumn 1998-release. The Remix-Album was tentatively named 'Veronica Electronica' but somehow the project never finalized.

Plans to go on a Fall 1999 world-tour to promote 'Ray Of Light' were cancelled after Madonna got involved in filming 'The Next Best Thing'.

'Ray Of Light' is the winner of numerous awards including Madonna's very first Grammy Award for Best Pop Album.

[b]Music

http://www.sindrismadonnapage.com/smp/discography/00_music/thumbnails/music-album-tn.jpg

Interesting Facts:
'Music' is the first Madonna-Album that wasn't recorded in the United States. This time, Madonna chose London's Sarm East and Sarm West Studios where she locked herself with producers Mirwais, William Orbit and Guy Sigsworth.

Madonna was pregnant with son Rocco during the recordings of 'Music'.

While her previous 'Ray Of Light'-album was clearly influenced by William Orbit's electronica style, she took this album a step further with the help of French electronica wizard Mirwais. According to Madonna, they both had some problems with understanding each other in the studio at first since Mirwais wasn't speaking any English and Madonna almost no French.

'American Pie', which was a Number 1-hit througout Europe, ended up being included on the European and Australian versions of the album. However, Madona regrets having it included on it after "being talked into it by some record company executive". She rather would have seen it only on the The Next Best Thing-Soundtrack.

'Music' is also the first Madonna-album [not counting compilation albums] that is NOT featuring the lyrics in the CD-booklet. Instead, the listener is advised to visit Madonna's official site at madonnamusic.com for the lyrics.

For the first time, a complete Madonna album leaked onto the internet and fans all around the world were able to listen to all the songs from 'Music' months ahead of its release. Warner and Madonna weren't amused by this at all, closing down sites with the tracks and sueing Napster soon thereafter.

GHV2

http://www.sindrismadonnapage.com/smp/discography/01_ghv2/thumbnails/ghv2-lim-tn.jpg

Interesting Facts:
'GHV2' [or 'Greatest Hits Volume 2'] is Madonna's 2nd Greatest Hits-compilation and features her biggest hits from 1992-2001 [whereas The Immaculate Collection included songs from 1982-1990].

No new songs are to be found on this compilation although there have been several rumours of new songs prior to its release. Madonna chose not to include any new songs since "it's called a greatest hits".

However, the album got promoted with a megamix of some of the songs on 'GHV2' that was mixed by Thunderpuss. Unfortunately the mix[es] will never see the light of a commercial release - very much to the dissapointment of many fans.

The booklet of both the regular issue and the limited edition contain more than 600 pictures [although not very large ones] that span Madonna's complete carreer.

The liner notes of the 'GHV2'-booklet have been written by Dan Cadan [who happens to be Guy Ritchies personal assistant]. He talks about Madonna's songs and carreer in a very ironic - and quite funny - way which shows Madonna's great sense of humour.

Despite the lack of new songs, 'GHV2' has proved itself to be a bestseller all around the world and even made a pre-order record of 800'000 copies in the UK - the most ever!

very interesting bio , a must read:

It is only a matter of time before real talent will be out and Lamya is brimming with it. Born in Kenya of Omani descent, and raised in Sheffield, England, Lamya (pronounced Lamb-ya) writes, arranges, performs, and produces all of her own material. A classically trained opera singer whose gorgeous vocals are best known from her work on Soul II Soul's Vol. II: A New Decade and Vol. V: Believe; she has appeared on records by some of the biggest acts of the last quarter century, among them David Bowie and James Brown as well as recent work by Duran Duran, Anjelique Kidjo and Cheb Mami. Now it is her turn. Her debut stands alone in the pop music landscape, Lamya's otherworldly vocals supported by laid-back hip-hop and dance beats, luscious string arrangements, guitars, sitars, and a panoply of Eastern percussion. Flexing a swooping five-octave range, Lamya whispers, soars and swirls her souful instrument around her strikingly literary tales of love, defiance, and the uphill search for identity. The songs on her debut album Learning from Falling were culled from poems she's written all her life, some as early as age 11. Lamya's sound- scapes are unique three dimensional worlds that invite comparisons to Bjork and Kate Bush. But Lamya is all her own, managing to balance eccentricity with an inviting melodic accessibility.Lamya is a very old soul at just 28 years. She's accomplished much in little time - and how has she "I never sleep," she says, giggling. "I sleep every three days. I've been like that since I was a small child. I don't like the dark, so I stay up."Sent to school in England then Egypt, Lamya ran away to NY after seeing a video interview of Madonna. Retracing the material girl's steps, she arrived in Manhattan to find her own Jellybean Benitez and Danceteria. There was one problem - all of those haunts were gone. "I went to NY and tried to find Studio 54," she recalls, "People said to me, 'Girl, it's gone, where you been?' And I'd say, 'Oman.' 'What? Omaha?' 'No, OMAN!' She laughs: "After that I thought 'What have I done coming here? I just started going around to all of the clubs running up to the dj booths and saying, 'Hello! I sing!' Little did I know that the whole of New York sings!"She caught a break as featured vocalist with Soul II Soul. She toured the world and became at home on the road, a process solidified by two years on tour with Duran Duran. All the while Lamya crafted her own music, much of which went through rock permutations very different from their present incarnations.Lamya is exquisite on record and simply breathtaking live. She is a songstress whose instrument needs no processing, whose skill is more powerful the more it is stripped down. She is a woman of paradox, a trained opera singer who prefers to sing pop, a woman more comfortable on stage before 20,000 strangers than in a room with 2, an intensely private person whose lyrics tell her most personal life stories. The songs on Learning from Falling are as exotic as they are full of pop hooks, as dark as they are sunny, as healing as they are hurting. What else could be expected from a multi-lingual trombone-playing singer? "From living in so many places, I have found that you can convey what you mean without even knowing the language," Lamya says. "If you really understand what you are trying to say, you can communicate on several levels at once. Some things are universal. If I sing the last verse of a song in Swahili, I think people can still understand what I'm saying because they hear the feeling in it."Lamya's exotic beauty and hypnotizing eyes belie the enticing mystery within. Her looks have already captured the attention of image maker extraordinaire Jean-Baptiste Mondino, whose most recent work includes the photos and videos for Madonna's Music, as well as legendary artwork for Bjork and Prince. After hearing "Empires," Lamya became Mondino's next nascent icon. As only he could say, "She is haute-couture."Learning From Falling is out July 25th and Lamya's co-producers include Soul II Soul/Massive Attack/Bjork legend Nellee Hooper, Mark Ronson and Justin Stanley who produced Nikka Costa's debut and David Kahne who immortilized Southern California reggae-rockers Sublime. Open your ears and Lamya will open your eyes. She's been waiting a lifetime.

Thanks Boy-I for the info on Lamya from Oman, as it is interesting to know what happened to her after such a long time!. I however don't understand why her biography says that she is just 28 when in fact she is near her 40s...

R&B diva Toni Braxton married Mint Condition keyboardist Keri Lewis in Atlanta on Saturday (April 21). The couple met four years ago while touring, and the wedding was attended by 250 guests, including musicians Monica, Usher, Mack 10, Donell Jones, and T-Boz and Chili of TLC. Former Atlanta Mayor Andrew Young presided over the ceremony, while old-school rapper and world-renowned DJ Biz Markie provided the music for the reception.

emm let me tlalk about th singer of teh song hero in "spiderman" movie
he is Chad Kroeger..
http://www.nickelback.com/images/chadBio.jpg

here is his biography written by himself:
To those of you who find personal info interesting.
I taught myself to play the guitar at 13. (Thank you mom for the first one!) I’ve been singing as long as my mother has been bribing me to.

I was thrown into a juvenile detention center when I was 14 for breaking into my junior high school 11 times

...this really pissed me off !!

Once I finished high school I started touring with Ryan Peake and my brother in a cover band as a lead guitar player. We had a different singer at that time that taught me everything I now know about fronting a band.

After a year we found ourselves tired of playing other peoples music and went our separate ways. In 96’ I wrote 10 songs and convinced Peake, my brother Mike, and my cousin Brandon to record them with me in Vancouver.

NICKELBACK is born.

I signed a record deal when I was 24 for the master recordings of our second effort, The State. I’ve been touring ever since.

p.s...to those single mothers out there feeling overwhelmed and unappreciated...I applaud you!

Chad Kroeger

R&B sensation Craig David was barely out of his teens when he took a hold of the U.K. pop circuit, twisted it around, and threw it back on its bum during fall 2000. This fresh-faced native of Southampton, England, was merely playing into his love of funkadelic hip-hop and crooning urban stylings when he started writing songs as a teenager. His love for Terence Trent D'Arby, Sisqo, and Donnell Jones allowed him to put his creative love for art, culture, and history into a musical beat all his own. And the new millennium belonged to him and garage had been redefined
----
Born Craig Ashley David on May 5, 1981, David was slicing and dicing ragga and R&B on the local station PCRS 106.5FM and found himself playing club gigs prior to rubbing elbows with some of music's finest. It was during this time he hooked with Artful Dodger's Mark Hill. After winning a national writing competition, Craig was more than ready to start producing with Hill. His big break came when he put his own additives on Damage's "I'm Ready," a B-side to "Wonderful Tonight." Soon thereafter he remixed his own version of Human League's "Human" and started himself a regular spot in area clubs during the weekends. "Rewind" was another underground smash, specifically a definitive move for David. His respect for Stevie Wonder, Faith Evans, and R. Kelly was most apparent, however his own vocal talent was beginning to shine. He and Hill's specialty show on Capital Radio provided another outlet for David to shape his musical work of genius. "Fill Me In" proved yet another hit, shooting straight to number one in summer 2000. David was now the youngest British male solo artist to have a number one single. He was 19-years-old.
====
now this is th intresting part! that i didnt know see
A deal with Wildstar Records in the U.K. sparked toward the end of the summer as "Re-Rewind" and "7 Days" gained praise in late November. A stateside agreement with Atlantic also led to more global hype. He had sold 3.5 million records worldwide and garage was finally becoming massive overseas and it was David's debut Born to Do It that was at the head.
