I was surprised to hear that, for the first time in Oman, a movie was shown at the cinema the same day it is also released in the United States!!..nice progress :).
This movie is: Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (2002), which opened today.

I am not a science fiction fan in general, but I have to say that this movie is a "Must-See" for technical and creativity reasons.

The landscapes, galaxies and aliens lifeforms are incredibly well realized and the effects are just superbs. This alien world is fantastically well detailed and we can forget the occasional weak dialogues or performances as the movie transports us to another dimension, where other lifes can exists.

The movie is not short of action with skycar-chase, swordfights, cliffhangers and blastaway battles and I did enjoy the ride. :)

We will probably go see it when the lines go down - a month or two, LOL!

I've heard that girls like it more than guys... that it's too touchy-feely for the guys...

MoonChild, there are a moment or two where there is a bit of weakness coming from one actor as he is deeply in love (with Portman), but I can guarantee you that the men will definitely like it. There is a lot of action and again I say the realization is fantastic! The real story behind it is secondary in that case.

The latest "Star Wars" movie took in $116.3 million in its first four days and became the second-fastest film behind only "Spider-Man" to top $100 million.

After grossing $30.1 million on opening day Thursday, "Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones" collected $86.15 million Friday to Sunday, the third-highest debut ever for a three-day weekend, behind "Spider-Man" and "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone."

"Attack of the Clones" did not approach box-office records set two weeks ago by "Spider-Man," which debuted with $114.8 million in three days. But "Episode II" had a faster start than its 1999 predecessor, "Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace," which opened on a Wednesday and took five days to reach $105 million.

Playing in 3,161 theaters, "Attack of the Clones" averaged a whopping $27,254. The film opened in about 450 fewer theaters than "Spider-Man" because "Star Wars" creator George Lucas was choosy about locations, insisting on top-of-the-line cinemas with digital sound.

welll, star wars, and spider man, they just ask too much of imagination, and for people like me, we lack it so once more i dint enjoy a movie that many people loved.

one good movie, was " we were soldiers", its a fine one lulu, they have amazing gross parts, gross in the sense u need to have the stomach to stand all the blood. AMAZING!
most of my girlfriends didn't like it though. but i think u should check it out.

I have seen this movie and i would say it's a very good english indian movie and not too long like the usual hindi movies it won a prize for it....and they mostly speak english so you won't need to put subtitle to translate...i like the story and the way they acted but there are some sexual parts which i don't recommend watching it with children.By the way you can get this movie from a DVD shop in Oman it's available.....Here are some BRIEF REVIEWSChicago Sun-Times"It could be the first Indian film to win big at the North American box office..." Entertainment Weekly"...it's fair to say that the cinema has rarely offered up a glimpse of a tradition-bound society that is this saturated in the techno-happy, media-wired trappings of the contemporary age."

This movie is for Vampir movie lovers like I......It's about a vampir who was cursed on his birth which made him special and can get exposed to sunlight and never get effected by it.

On BLADE 1 Blade used to kill other vampirs to save human....but what i like from BLADE II is it has a different story from anyother vampir movie and it's really shows how can you wide up your imagination because in BLADE II Blade gets together with vampires to kill a more super-vampir which is more dangours because it feeds from human , vampirs and spreads very fast.
This
movie was palying in Ruwi cinema and i don't know if it's still there or not.

By the way Blade comes from a comic story.

Here are some BRIEF REVIEWS

"...a really rather brilliant vomitorium of viscera, a comic book with dreams of becoming a textbook for mad surgeons." Chicago Sun-Times "...in the realm of guilty pleasures, Blade II is a keeper." Cincinnati Enquirer

Welcome to the sabla Sami and I am also a big fan of Judie Foster as well of Antony Hopkins. There films are always very good and we are guarantee never to regret seing them.

I am also impatiently waiting for "Spider Man" especially for the visual effects. I think it is a movie which can only be appreciated on big screan. I already got a pirate copy but don't want to watch it as it won't be the same as the original.

My favorite movie is City of Angels. The reason I love this movie so much is because it reminds me of both of the people I've loved.

Nicky was the one who first told me about the movie. I remember her telling me how when she saw it she thought of me the whole time while watching it and afterward too. She said it made her miss me terribly and made her wish she could be with me. . But she also thought of me because she said we acted alike. Deep and brooding, lost, tortured soul, soft, eloquent spoken. She insisted I must see the movie. She guaranteed I'd cry the whole time like she did while watching it.

I was skeptical... I thought it's just going to be another chick mushy love flick. However, I was already in love with the music from the movie, Sarah McLaughin's Angel and the Goo Goo Dolls' Iris. "And I don't want the world to see me cause I don't think that they'd understand, when everything's made to be broken, I just want you to know who I am." I figured I'd give it a try, I have nothing to lose and it seemed to mean a lot to Nicky that I see it.

I was so very pleasantly surprised. I loved it!!! She was right, my eyes seemed to pour the whole entire time. It was sad, it was romantic... it was me, us. It became "our" movie; it seemed it was made only for us to share together. I'd watch it constantly.

:(

Welcome reena to the sabla :) and what you posted is exactly what I felt tonight while watching the new "spiderman" :(

Qais, thanks for the infos ;) and it seems Oman is not too late afterall, as the movie was just released in one of the theatre....(by the way, all evening shows until the last one at midnight where fully booked and I had to buy my ticket in advance!).

I hear so much about "Spiderman" and the overall critics were so good, with the movie making the no.1 at the US box office, that I was really excited like a child to see it. I had that big expectation of a movie where I will go "Whaaaouuu!!!" throughout.

As reena said, it was rather disappointing even though I have to say that the special effects were well realized. But once you saw Spiderman jumping from one roof to another, the rest is repetitive without big surprise. I would still advice to see it, but without expecting to see the movie of the year.

Again, I expected a science type of fiction movie, but instead was watching more a "unrealistic" family film, with a poor script. It is nevertheless a great film for the kids, but certainly not at the level of "Star Wars - Episode II" which was fantastically realized and amazing to me...

well...X-press... the movie followed exactly to every inch of detail the original comic book,,there for you can't really say the the script was too short!! personally i thought it was Amazin..and at the same level of Batman 1 and 2!! (i'm a sucker for all these action hero movies)!!! ;)

X-press
06-06-02, 04:36 AM
Boy-I, I honestly do not read comic anymore, so I can't compare the original Spiderman book with the movie. renna is the one who felt that the script was too short, not me ;) Like her, I agree that the story was poor...

Again, it is a good movie for the kids and it is still nice to go see it. I didn't say that it was bad, just not to my expectation.

If you talk about Batman, again I do not believe Spiderman was to that level, plus you can't compare the new release with such actors like Uma Thurman in "Batman & Robin", or Jim Carrey, Nicold Kidman and Val Kilmer in "Batman Forever"...

NaBHaN
06-06-02, 04:46 AM
hmmm...you can;t really say it was for kids!!! it's just a typical family movie!! and the actors were quite good especially (Kirsten Dunst) she's one of the best actresses of her generation .other movies she acted in (interview with a vampire, little women) two of my all time favourite movies!
oh..and the two batman movies you mentioned are 3, and 4!! which sadly couldn't live up to the first two movies Boxoffice wise!
:)

anyways..everyone has the right to X-Press their own views!! ;)

This movie based on a cartoon called SCOOBY DOO as you all know...i think it's going to be funny and cool because of the actors in it...FREDDIE PRINZE JR , MR BEEN and SARAH MICHELLE GELLAR(Buffy the vampir slayer) !..so it's going to be funny...and as you know that this Director has also directed other movies like(Big Momma's House, Never Been Kissed, Home Alone 3) so i guess now you will have an idea.

Yay! I finally got my chance tp catch up with the rest of the world and see spiderman! :D

So yeah.. My opinion..

Mary Jane is cute. She's very cute. But don't let that fool you! She's EVIL! She left her boyfriend and asked out his best friend immediately after. Thats evil. She broke the honor code. You know if she were a samurai she'd have to kill herself with a dagger for being so dishonorable.... Samurai are stupid.

Anyway the movie was great. The only thing that annoyed me was the beginning createds although cool looking seemed to last forever.

The fact he wore a pair of pyjamas to that wrestling match was hilarious. Did the green guy :6: annoy you as much as he annoyed me, though? What was with his laugh? I found that so pathetically cliche that I wanted to commit suicide right there in the cinema. :fire:

Anyway. I'm off to try climbing walls and shooting web from my wrists.

Lulu, thanks again for your great contributions here and keeping us up to date with the latest movie to come.

I have to say that I was really disappointed of the movie "Birthday Girl", but honestly didn't expect too much of it from a start, as I never heard any comments about it in the media.

From the good previews in the cinema, I had the impression that it was still a nice exciting thriller. I will honestly give this movie a 2 stars**, if not 1. Nicole Kidman role doesn't suit her personality at all and I am still wandering why they say that it is a thriller. I find it semi-action, semi-comedy. Brief, sorry not to be more positive about it and I expected "Moulin Rouge", another of Kidman's movie, to stay longer in the theatre than it actually did.

Lulu, thanks for letting us know that "Panic Room" is playing this 26th. I will definitely go and see it as I am a big fan of Jodie Foster. If she is in it, it is most probably an excellent movie!

I believe it is all computerly done and the film got 4.5 stars out of 5. The donkey who's voice is Eddie Murphy's is so, so funny! I already saw it 3 times and don't mind watching it over again.

Thanks again lulu for giving us all the latest infos and yes I also watch the movie "HIGH CRIMES" and found it quite good suspense thriller. We will be watching always wandering what will come next and there is a bit of a twist at the end. The only thing that left me dry was Freeman love for alchool and Judd's sister's romance. These had no real meaning in the movie which was focusing on a more important issue. However, I will still recommend it ;)

I was very much interested to see "THE SHIPPING NEWS"this week-end, but most reviews are not that Whaouu... It is apparently a movie with a "cold look" besides the fact that it is found in Newfoundland. It seems that though the actors are excellent, the viewer doesn't have a chance to go to the hearts of the each characters.

Personally I love Cate Blanchett, as her acting is usually superb, but it seems in this movie her role is short. I guess it is a movie to still see to judge...

Maybe this thread will motivate them to watch more of them, or at least the good suggestions posted here :)

So this week end, I had to choose between "Shipping News" and Kate & Leopold" and I choose the 2nd one.

Kate & Leopold was actually quite a surprise and I didn't at all expect the time-travel plot. It is a very nice family movie for once without violence! Just pure romance, comedie and good laugh. I always enjoy watching Meg Ryan and the role of Kate suits her perfectly, as for Hugh Jackman playing Leopold, he is such a handsome gentelman ;)

This week new release, 'Men in Black II" s1. Men in Black II seems to be #1 in the US making till date $52,148,751, but the reviews I read don't look very good.

Atlanta Journal-Constitution - Steve Murray:"...a parade of stale jokes..."

Chicago Sun-Times - Roger Ebert: "The special effects are good, but often pointless."

filmcritic.com - Christopher Null: "...one of the most uninspired sequels in recent memory..."

Los Angeles Times - Kenneth Turan: "...a disappointment."

I will certainly not go and watch it as it is not my type of movie, but I am 100% sure my little boy will and definitely enjoy it.

i got the music album and the movie together .. u have to see this film...
here the lyrics of the first song in the movie when the horase is born to this world:::

Here I am - this is me
There's no where else on earth I'd rather be
Here I am - it's just me and you
And tonight we make our dreams come true

It's a new world - it's a new start
It's alive with the beating of - young hearts
It's a new day - it 's a new plan
I've been waiting for you
Here I am

Here we are - we've just begun
And after all this time - our time has come
Ya here we are - still goin'strong
Right here in the place where we belong

Chorus

Here I am - next to you
And suddenly the world is all brand new
Here I am - where I'm gonna stay
Now there's nothin standin in our way
Here I am - this is me

I saw MIB II few days ago...and i saw its funny....and deserves watchin....actually i consider it as good as MIB I .....LOL.....i'm trying to stop myself from telling the funny stuff in it..hmmm but i wonder if they will censor the 1st bit of the movie....nothing really happening...but...well....you'll see....

ok..here my opinions of the recent movies i saw...as i'm in a winter break/ holiday (scale from 10)

* Star Wars II: What an amazing movie cant stop enjoying all thos sabor fights...!!! especially the Yoda fight!!!!!!!! that was Awosome!!! :D (pretty much who havent seen the previous SW releases will feel lost, but still enjoy it) 9/10

* MIB 2: already mentioned it above 8 1/2 /10

*Minorty Report: hmm i can say that i did like it...even that its a (me, myself and I) tom cruise movie (which is a not bad actor anyway) ...i thnk the effects were pretty good...and quite interesting... 7/10

* Blade II: Really good...if you werent picky about graphics that much ...some parts really looked...weird....but over all its a 80% movie length action i enjoyed watchin it.... 7/10

* Unfaithful : hmm  ignoring the fact that 1/2 of the 40% of the movie might be censored...i say its a v.good movie ..i didnt know what to expect thought its another movie with family problems and alll...but it ended up...pretty good... 6 1/2 /10 (low grade cuz of the not needed to see scenes :fire: )

well those are the once i recently saw within the last 2 months. Might keep updating from now on....or drop by with my opinions of the previous movies I saw.

This is a cool thread ........thx for starting it.

Unfaithful!
To be frank I saw it all not censored "twice" ..... once on my own and again with a friend!
There were lots of "bold" scenes but overall .... I liked the idea that was being delivered to the audience .... and I would say the film was specially aiming to target.... "married couples" ......

DeSerTDesTroYeR
19-07-02, 02:04 AM
Yup i agree that "Unfaithful" is mainly aiming for married couples...but even though as you mentioned it has a message. Which basically comes clear to the end of the movie... well again...i'd say its a good movie...

ok my new update...

* Bad company: Very interesting movie, starring: Anthony Hopkins and Chris Rock. Its v.funny and has decent action going in it... its all about this char chris...that replaces his twin brother who was a CIA agent and he is just a normal guy/// actually thats where all the fun starts ...and of course Anthony is incharge of him... i'll give it... 7 1/2 /10

* Resident Evil (saw this awhile ago): I played RE 1, 2 and 3 on PC and RE is 1 of my fav games....well was...at that time....the movies was interesting...but not as how much i wished it to be...it had some cool effects...and zombies....but not really what i expected....overall it was not bad.. I hope the sequel is way better... 6/10

well...until next time when i remember about other movies or see new movies.... :D :gap:

EAST IS EAST
Comedy

Directed by: Damien O'Donnell

Rating:***1/2

Firstly this movie is not new i watched it 2 years back and i don't think it's banned in Oman because i got it from a DVD shop...anyhow yes it has some bad scenes but it's a nice Comedy i like it!it's FUNNY!!!!!!!!!...LOL you reminded me of it LOL ....

Here is the story

For the seven kids of George Khan - proud Pakistani and chip shop owner - life is one long compromise. Tomboy Meenah prefers playing footsie to wearing a sari, hippie Saleem pretends to be studying engineering when he's really at art school, heart-throb Tariq has got a reputation as a local Casanova, and Sajid hasn't even been circumcised yet. For George Khan ('Ghengis' to his kids), life is an uphill battle to get his family to conform to traditional Pakistani values. But this is Salford in the 1970s. George's English wife Ella is Lancashire born, and his kids have got minds of their own. With one disastrous arranged marriage already in the family - Nazir fled at the altar to become a milliner in Eccles - George plots to bring his next two sons into line by marrying them off to the daughters of Mr. Shah, Master Butcher and proud owner of an extended home in Bradford. East is East is the often hilarious and sometimes painful story of what happens when two cultures collide within one family. In the Khan's cramped terraced house with its scant indoor plumbing, anarchy erupts on a daily basis. When the Khan kids begin to oppose their father's petty tyrannies, Ella is forced to make a choice between her love for her husband and the right of her children to make their own ways in the world.

lulu, I also had the chance to see "Unfaithful" and I have to say that it was quite a surprise!. I didn't first expect much from Richard Gere, as I sometimes don't like the movies he plays in (e.i:"Autumn in New-York"...so bad). However, as he is so cute that I have to watch all his movies...:)

Unfaithful was actually excellent to my opinion. Diane Lane, though not very pretty, was playing brilliantly her role! The movie kept us wandering what will come next and yes, too bad the main sexy scenes were sensored...:sorry:

(very bad and adult scenes are in it!! so if you have children or younger bro's or sisters, be sure not to watch it with them!! lol

My rating: C+

I agree with you B-I that Monster's Ball was disappointing!

Not that it is such a bad movie but not something worth all the fuss made about it!. I actually expected the movie to be based on some marital abused and the wife being the victim, while in fact there was none of that. The story was something else than what I expected. Harry Balle was playing well but nothing so extraordinary to win an oscar to my opinion. I felt the same while watching "American Beauty" last year...

The Lord of the Rings

I watched this movie few days ago on DVD and I was also a bit surprised as it was not what I expected to see. Maybe because I didn't really read the reviews, but I didn't expect a "fantasy" adventure. Though the story is somehow complicate to follow at some points, I have to admit that the special effects and realisation are fantastic!! I believe we enjoy it more when we watch it a second time...

Watched the movie "XXX" tonight as there was no seat available anymore for me to see it last week.

I have to give my thumb up for this super action movie! My adrenaline was up from the start till the end, even if some stuns where slightly impossible to imagine...First time to see the actor Vin Diesel and he was perfect for the role a cool, fun "James Bond" type.

If it is still playing in the theatre this week, it is a "Must See" (like the Count of Monte Cristo) for anyone who enjoy good entertainment.

Now tell me pl, its sure kinda old i am not sure if it has actually reached there in oman or not, but when i watched that movie it was something really really different that Danzel acted in. It was very nice . Actually when they were bringing the ad's it did not speak much of the movie .. but when i saw the movie i said wow.. thats something nice.

Let me know what others think about it those who watched it of course.

Neena: I saw John Q...and i agreee its quite something different..........this actor just cant stop suprising me with his abilities....in acting....also like he did in training days.... sooooooooo this movie was another gooooooood movie..worth watching again... but i have no clue if it came to oman or not..:D

Well yes .. Dragon fly was good... it was slow somehow as a start and all, but the ending was just worth all. Actually i was reading one of the Magazine the other day and they were like saying this is one of the horrible movies that kevin acted in. They were like in the United States not many ppl liked it, as the reaction towards the movie was really bad. They as well said in the theater it self, so many ppl started cracking up and laughing about it.. weird ha!

well...it wasn't as good as i expected it to be!! i was expecting a "what lies beneath " type of thriller!! it was slow, and boring all the way!! even the ending wasn't that good!! oh well..kevin costner lost it!! he used to be one of my favourites but ever since waterworld he seems to be starring in all the major flops!! shame!

This is why boy-I I hesitate to go see that movie, as most of Keven Costner's movies are always a flop! DesertD said it is really good and you don't agree....I don't feel at all motivate to watch it.

Okay,,,, i will be giving my opinion on movies to watch and movies for sure to avoide.. here i go..

Austin Power II - what an i say, i never botherd to watch the first one ... i don;t really recommand it at all, unless someone is intrested in such movies but, hmmm very very silly, they say its funny but to me its funny in a very stupid way. I don;t give it much credit at all.

Stuart Littlre II - well the first part was ,, hmm what can i say alright, but this sorte of movie is for kids,,, as its reated "G". SO for those who have kids, i would say it would be nice to take them and watch it.

LILO & STITCH - is again rated "G", kids would for sure enjoy it so will adults,... its nice cartoon who doesn;t love cartoon...! i would give 6 out of 10. you would for sure laugh, and again ... dad, mom take ur kids for this one... its good.

CHANGING LANES - Now this movie is something for sure.... staring Ben Affleck and Samuel L Jackson. It ia Rated "M". The story is about, both of those 2 actors play 2 men that are invloved in a car accident, that delays their separate appearances at court hearings. The course of their day, and ultimately their lives, is changed. As their anger escalates, they set out to destroy each other. I give it 8 out of 10.

THE SUM OF ALL FEARS - Again Ben Afflek, and Morgan freeman. I love both of those 2 actors .... they are really good. This movie is about hmmm terrorist, the length of the movie is almost 2 hours and a half. I have seen this one as well, and i give it again 9 out od 10.

CITY BY THE SEA - Staring Robert De Niro, plays a respected New York cop whose father was executed when he attempted a kidnapping that ended in tragedy. Now, working on a murder investigation, the cop discovers that his son, whom he abandoned years ago, is the prime suspect. ... Very nice movie,, for sure something to watch. As well something different than Roberto has been in... I give it 9 out of 10.

MURDER BY NUMBER - staring Sandra Bullock - Selecting a random victim, two cold-blooded students attempt to carry out the perfect murder, leaving clues that will lead to another suspect. When a man is arrested, a tough cop with a troubled past senses something is wrong and continues to investigate. Hmm well its not that bad, but the way it has been advertised makes you think its very very good. SO i would give it 6 out of 10.

I guess thats all for now... those are the movies that are on arund this place .. so.. till it reaches home, not sure but i suppose it depends on what movie.

Cheers

Yes i could say that she;s good. The one that they bring now is all new, the last show they brought that gay guy Eilton John... it was alright. It seems a woman at her age hmm "40" that she just can;t seem to get the right guy ... its funny to see how she hmmm thinks and act!

Buffy, no offence but i just don't like her and that silly serial... i just don;t think its really nice.

Sex in the city is fro sure really good... but i just hate one of those ladies i forgot her name but she si the eldest in there and the way she acts just makes me sick!
