Thug 4 life,

I have learnt a lot since I have come here – I have learnt more about Islam, I have learnt more about your politics and your way of life.

I find the members interesting/frustrating/annoying/quick to anger/easily led/naieve/simple/indoctrinated/blind to things that you don’t like to read/amusing/sensitive/kind/loyal There is generally a greater willingness to be ‘open-minded’ amongst the Western contributors.

I wouldn’t say that any of my previous views or thoughts have radically altered. Some of my views have had the edges smoothed a bit – ie Even though I always had sympathy for the Palestinian cause , I am slightly more sympathetic now – although I intrinsically disagree with some of their methods

Bimmy,

There are many, many, many thousands of people who don’t work in jobs that correspond to their major.

From a personal point of view, I had always wanted to join the army – I got an Army scholarship and an Army cadetship – so, I wanted to go to University and do a subject that I enjoyed. As it happened, I chose a combined honours degree.

In terms of my favourite dishes

Truffles are a funghus delicacy (related to mushrooms) that are found in the ground (during Truffle season). A risotto is a creamy/cheesy rice dish.

Everyone knows what sausages are! Mash potaoto is mashed potato! (with milk, butter, salt, pepper). In this case, I like to add celeriac ( a root vegetable ) to the potato. Mange Tout is a green vegetable – a bit pea pods without the peas.

I presume you know what cheese is! ( I don’t have a sweet tooth ).

I don’t understand your question about the O levels?

SoMe,

1) I didn’t put you’re the Sabla down because I was looking for a reaction!

2) Mimmy is Mimosa

3) Re Oman, I left it out to get a reaction! My wife-to-be has been to Oman and really enjoyed it

Mr Pinnochio, I guess I'm not very familiar with teh British system..I always thought that O-Level is kinda like a degree you get by taking several exams..but it seems to me 10 O levels=10 subjects, am I right?

Mr Tickle

O levels are what you take at the age of 15/16 - ie your third year of 'senior school'

A levels you take in your last year (5th year) at the age of 17/18

10 O levels mean that I took (and passed) exams in 10 different subjects - in my case:

Maths
History
English Literature
English Language
French
Religious Knowledge
Chemistry
Physics
Biology
Latin

I studied English, History and Politics at A level

Nice to read that!.

If you have been up to the far East, would you consider one day coming to Oman, as I said in another thread, it has one of the cleanest seallife in the world...great for scubba-diving ;)

Tell us about your siblings if you have any. What are there views about Islam or the Muslims in general?

My wife-to-be loved the diving in Oman

She stayed in Muscat (Intercontinental, I think) and went diving outside Muscat

She liked the history of the place - castles, fortresses etc. She has been all over the Middle East and she thought the Omani's were the nicest people - she has not enjoyed other countries as much.

Unfortunately, she also has a painful memory of Oman as she burst her ear drum on a dive!

I have one brother who is 31

He works in London.

He works on television for Bloombergs - he is the main interviwer, presenter, anchorman for the business news

I'm not sure of his views on Islam etc

Mr P,

Every decent restaurant (and bar) in Oman serves wine.......not cheap, but readily available :)
