Oman is set to make a mark in the rugby arena of the Arab world, as the Sultanate will turn out to be the first ever Gulf nation to field an all Omani(Arab) side to participate in Dubai Rugby Sevens Championship which will start the coming weekend.
This new team has been founded by Nabil Al-Busaidi who has been playing rugby for several years. When he first went to the Dubai 7’s two years ago, he was surprised to find that he was the only Arab playing in the tournament. Last year
there was great media interest when one Emirati took part in the tournament and this year, with a whole team of Omanis taking part, the media coverage is likely to be even greater.

i know Nabil and i am sure if he sticks with his training Omanis to play rugby, the team will succeed. I was going to play but i am far too fat and unhealthy, and practices were during my work time. There are some pretty fast omanis on the team and if they can keep cool and focus i am sure they will do well. Sevens is a tough game and i wish them the best of luck

isn't Rugby the type of game that requries u to be 6'4" and above with a weight not less than 120 kg?
do we have ppl with that build here in Oman?

you need a combanation of heavy weights, lightweights and fitness. Only need to tall people for line outs, when the ball is thrown down the middle of two lines. But u can opt for a scrum, which needs plenty of weight and weight we do have in oman . hehe :o)

All blacks maybe in 10 years !! You can watch them practice every sunday night at nadi oman stadium from 8pm, they were playing in Dubai last week i think, i don't know if its finished yet or not. But im sure if you go down to the stadium and ask nabil he will help you and try and get you to join up too. :o)
