View Full Version : Weak Gum
I’ve had my braces off 4 months ago, I’m still wearing the invisible retainers (http://www.orthodentlab.com/products/images/photos/InvisibleRetainers.jpg)(plastic) though. My teeth look in GOOD shape, I’m lovin my big smiles now :D
While my friend’s sister she has been wearing the braces for 5 years now. The thing is, her doctor says he’s concerned about her weak gum, her teeth are likely to move back again once braces are off. I mean 5 years are too long already?! She doesn’t smoke, not on drugs, no fizzy sodas drinks and she eats healthy .
So what caused her a weak gum?
Why some people have weak gums? Genes?
Is there anything that can be done about this? Anything can strengthen it?

^^^ :os
Is she sure he is a doctor, coz really he frightend her about her weak gums without any further information about what is the reason and what she should do about it?!!!!!
If he is a dentist he should know what to do for her case:os
I don't know what to tell you only she should ask her dentist or her doctor to treat her case it depends on the reason why is that?
You remind me with my sister and her dentist in Al-Khuwair once I went with her as a company, the doctor look was strange how he dressed and his untidy hair look I couldn't stop laughing from shock till I went out of the clinic wondering how she trusted him he never looked as a doctor I told her that
then one day she had an-appointment they told her he wasn't a docor:omg: he cheated them bought a fake certificate as a doctor, stole the money and run away!!!!:XD:
i am not a dentist..
but yeah some people tend to have weak gums...
reasons could be nutritional , hygeinic factors , plus genes
collagen cross linking provide strength to tissues.... there is degree of variation between individuals in the cross linking reactions... heretibaility is also linked to weak blood vessels which manifests as easy bruising after minor injury in some people but not others. Many factors are also involved here

Make sure you wear them all-the-time! I lost my retainers twice, to a point where I wasn't bothered to order a third one. What happened? My bottom teeth got messed up, & as a result, ended up wearing bottom braces for the next 3 months :(
Point of the story, NEVER underestimate the power of retainers :P

Collagen cross linking…..? What does that mean? Can you elaborate please? And how treated? Injections?

True said, I went through the same thing when I stopped wearing my retainers once braces were off, my two front teeth did shift a bit, I went all crazy when I noticed that, I was like “no, I can’t go through braces and all that pain again “, so I started wearing it back while teeth were still movable. :)

Very bad
I think my friend’s sister goes to dentist in hospital, he looked professional.
Adding to what FaHaD mentioned, diabetes is associated with gum disease, chronic gingivitis due to poor oral hygiene or even anaemia
I suggest you get an opinion of a dentist, we've got only M.D's on the forum

My gum is not that good. I started using a toothpaste called Parodontax and it got much better Alhamdulilah.
It has some herbal contents and I even use it as a cream and leave for some time when I get a minor infection.
Mind you, its taste is not that good, but I do recommend it.
But of course consulting a dentist is a must.
^ Ducklet, Parodontax is a good one. I've been using Paradontax toothpaste for years now, and it works for me. But I dont know if it will help in her condition. Nevertheless, I'll recommend it to her. :)
