A new study from a British university seems to suggest that men who are polygamists live longer than those with just one wife - 12% longer, in fact.

A team from the University of Sheffield in the UK came to the conclusion after studying older men from 140 countries that practise polygamy to varying degrees and those from 49 mostly monogamous nations.
The lead researcher, ecologist Virpi Lummaa, said the explanation could be both social and genetic.
Men who continued fathering kids into their 60s and 70s could take better care of their bodies because they had mouths to feed, Dr Lummaa said.

What does "fathering" have to do with health? :think:
There are other ways to "take better care" of their bodies.

I think this research is inconclusive - genetics, diet, lifestyle all these factors havent been taken into consideration. Theyre comparing developed countries with undeveloped or developing countries - like comparing apples and oranges.
Dream on dude....... one wife should be punishment enuf or are you a sadist? You like the pain? Need a spanking?

The problem exists when you try to marry in gulf countries because in the past 3 decades their heads have become big, and they have forgotten how marriages should be as per our religion. This is why today we have so much social issues.
You can still marry easily from other countries ;)

I’m perfectly OK to remain single.
There is a big difference between saying that polygamous men live longer, and saying that they live longer because they are polygamous. A demographic association in the two statistics is not the same thing as a causal link.
My hypothesis on the reason would be this:
1. Polygamy is more common in developing countries (i.e. poorer ones)
2. In a poorer community, the man who marries more than one wife is, I think, more likely to be relatively wealthy.
3. In a poorer community, a relatively wealthy man can afford a better diet, better living accommodation, better healthcare and better protection from social problems.
Therefore, my guess would be that a majority of polygamists live longer simply because they are better off than the non-polygamists in their community. That does not surprise me. Or suggest any health benefit as a direct result of the polygamous lifestyle.
BUT I'm sure there are a lot of other statistical factors: Some polygamous men might be more observant of their religion, and as a result be more healthy by abstaining from alcohol abuse, drugs etc. And on a direct causal link, we all know that an active sex life within marriage is good for your health, so adding an extra young wife or two later in life might be very beneficial in terms of encouraging cardiovascular exercise(!)
Anyway, beneficial or not, I think for someone living in a prosperous modern society, it is probably more of a serious social headache than anything else. I'm open to suggestions though :hmm:
It's not that they live longer.
It's just juggling multiple women makes it seem longer.

Actually mimo makes sense because a man who can afford multiple wives can also afford a lifestyle rich in nutrition and so forth...so makes logical sense at least THAT way.....
Hey, I didn't say I was ruling out the concept entirely, just being rational about the data.
Maybe four wives is four times the life and who cares if you have a heart attack at 43? :D

Of course a man with a harem is happier. A man with more women feels better... no kidding... its like saying someone with more friends feels better.
