Ok,
Inspired by the thread...
The World will end next Wednesday. (http://www.englishsabla.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1161941#post1161941)
thought about starting a discussion about the Qur'an and modern science..
So,
1. Are there any scientific evidences of the Qur'an that prove it's divine origin?
2. Are these scientific evidences compatible with the modern science?
PS: Please no "I think" or "I guess", we want proofs/sources out here :).
Science and religion are not mutually exclusive.

Haha, Threadlike and I have been discussing this issue.
We started by choosing one of these three approaches:
1- The Qur'an is filled with scientific evidence and scientific miracles.
2- The Qur'an has some scientific principles, but that does not mean it holds scientific facts of scientific events. Only some principles.
3- The Qur'an does not point to the scientific issue in the first place. It is a book of guidance, a way of life for the nations and does not aim to being a Scientific Book.
Explanation by Dr. Tariq:
"The first one means that the Quran is truly full of scientific miracles, the second is that the verses speak of basic scientific priniciples, but not miracles by the meaning of 'miracles', and the last one is that no, the purpose of the Quran does not go with the subject of science."
Where do you stand?
Science and religion are not mutually exclusive.
As simple as that
Using science to prove the Quraan to strengthen your faith shows how weak your faith.

Good points, UmK. And I'd like to add what Dr. Zakir Naik mentioned in one of his books: "The Qur'an is not a book of science but a book of 'signs' "..
These signs invite Man to realize the purpose of his existence on earth, and to live in harmony with nature.

Ain't it supposed to show how strong is your faith?
Science and religion are not mutually exclusive.
Is are mutually exclusive.

Going through history, we'd see that Religion lead the early Muslims to excell in science.
Take Early Muslims and Astronomy, for example. It all started when Muslims in Andalus wanted to know the exact direction of the Qibla.
For many Muslim scientists, religion was the trigger.
Using science to prove the Quraan to strengthen your faith shows how weak your faith.
Ain't it supposed to show how strong is your faith?
I do agree with Braiki, it is the other way around that will strengthen you faith !
If you take what science says/proves and compare it to what is it in the Quran, you will find that everything is mentioned in the Quran ages !
Is are mutually exclusive.
Nope

^ Of course, but reading about how the holy qura'n is compatible with modern science would surely lead to a stronger faith..
Most surely in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day there are signs formen who understand. Such as remember Allah, standing, sitting, and reclining, and consider the creation of the heavens and the earth, (and say): Our Lord!Thou createdst not this in vain. Glory be to Thee! Preserve us from thedoom of Fire. Al Imran 190,191.

Hmm ... am thinking people didnt understand what I meant ...
I meant they are compatable, not incompatible. Science and religion (Quran in this case) shouldn't have to be seperated into two different entites. I am not saying the Quran is a science book or whatever, but there are mentions of bio, physics, maths, etc in it.
While on topic, I think it's silly to shun modern science just because it somehow does not work with what is in the Quran. We as muslims, should learn explore and understand, and be prepared to for new ideas and theories.
So yeah, it's both ways.
Name one scientific aspect mutually and/or partially exclusive with an ancient religion of your choice (but not vice versa).
Hint: It's not evolution.

I don't have the enough exposure to talk about other religions' books and the scientific aspects in them..
I'll be more than happy if you share any info? :)
