Salam.

One of my ears has been blocked for around 2 months. I have to yawn or swallow something constantly to have it unblocked.

I've so far seen two ENT doctors and both checked it with the small scope ENT doctors used and they told me it's fine, it could be that my nose is affecting the Eustachian canal ...etc.
I took some nose medications, but nothing changed. And had it been my nose, shouldn't it affect both ears not only one?

Before I got these symptoms water went into this ear when I was showering and I kept moving my head and jump to get rid of it (childish I know :p ) the day after I felt the there is something hard that moves inside and somehow rattle. I think I posted about this here and you told me to see and ENT doctor because it could be wax that is moving. I did saw an ENT and I was told it's ok.

After that I stated getting the blocked ear feeling. And saw two ENT doctors so far for the blocked ear problem. The feeling is giving me a hard time.

1. I need to know, does the ear scope they use help them see everything?
2. What if the problem is behind the drum? Can wax build there and cause that feeling?
3. What test should I ask the ENT doctor for to check that?

Sorry for blabbing, but I already feel better having talked about it. :cute:

1. I need to know, does the ear scope they use help them see everything?

No it doesn't, the otoscope helps to visualize only the external ear canal & the tympanic membrane (known as the drum)

2. What if the problem is behind the drum? Can wax build there and cause that feeling?

Wax can't build behind the ear drum (in the middle ear), only pus from infection (otitis media with effusion, acute or chronic) can accumulate there, which can be visualized through the otoscope as a bulging ear drum

If you have consulted an ENT specialist, then you can be sure he did what's required, a CT scan might be required in complicated cases of otitis, which of course is not your case
--------------------------------------------------------------------
You might be having chronic allergic rhinitis which may lead to dysfunction of the eustachian tube, in this case a course of antihistamines & decongestants may help

If you dont mind using local remedies, here is my suggestion, and hey, it worked on almost everybody I know who has used it:

Take a small amount of olive oil.

Take a couple of garlic cloves, grate them, mix them with olive oil.

Heat them in a pan.

Let it cool, a tiny weeny warmy.

Pour some drops into your ear.

You shud see the results almost immediately.

Good luck

Thanks Dr. Hitman.
I do have an allergic nose and I took Claratine and Mucosolvin, but nothing changed.
Actually I used to get blocked ears because of my nose, but it is the first time it happens in one ear only, which made me freak out. Thanks for making me feel better about it. :)

Thanks Markov.
Well, I will message outside my ear with it, but inside it, no I guess I'm too scared to do such things. :mmhmm:
Do you suggest anything for relieving rhinitis?

Thanks :)

maybe you'll need an adenoids operation....my daughter was temporarily deaf until she had her tonsils and adenoids removed.

I had that problem once...i was told to blow into a straw. Blow really really hard. I did that for 3 days...then it stopped.

Hope that helps.

regarding olive oil my doctor gave me a medcine for blocked ears because of wax. She said this medcine is actually olive oil, if any time your ears blocks you can apply olive oil directly.

Thanks minerva.
My tonsils are ok, and so is my hearing. It is just a blocked feeling that seems like the feeling you have when in airplane when you have to swallow something to alleviate it.

By the way, about adenoids. How did they discover that? By direct examination, x-rays, CT scan?

Thanks.
Straw as in juice straw?
should I close the straw from the other end, or just keep it open in the air?

I see. But I don't have wax according to the doctors. But olive oil is great always.
Thanks my dear.

Olive oil (mixed with garlic) will also help out with infection, but you seem a bit worried about using it.

Some people who suffer TMJ get what you are experiencing. Here is some info on it (I have TMJ and get that full feeling):

Ear Pain, Ear Problems:

Hissing, buzzing, ringing, or roaring sounds
Diminished hearing
Clogged, "stuffy", itchy ears
Feeling of fullness
Ear pain without infection
Balance problems, vertigo, dizziness
