I understand that women should cover in the presence of men but why is it that sometimes that even when women get together, they don't take off their scarf and abaya? is it out of shyness??:os

(keep in mind that there are no men anywhere near.)

--------
I take mine off sometimes infront of women and people just look at me like I did a HORRIBLE thing!:os yeah sometimes I keep it on. depends.

here's one incident:

There was a funeral in the family and lots of women came to the house. I had my scarf off (I'm tired of it so I like to have an excuse to take it off:shy: such a hassle). Women were looking at me like I was an alien. This woman next to me said, "You should wear your scarf". I was like :os...I said, "Why? there are no men around. we are all women. The whole reason we cover is because of men . do you see any men here?:shy:" (i said it politely:angel:) She just was silent and smiled..LOL.

is it traditional???

comments??:hmm:

I'm not that conservative, so why should I bother covering in front of women? I like dressing up in short dresses and doing my hair, when I know that I can, since no men are around. So yeah, that's just me.

Maybe the woman behaved that way because it was a funeral and people usually keep their abaya and scarves on in such occasions?

No, in gatherings this has nothing to do with Islam as long as you're covering your awra!

As far as I know, it's the area between the belly button and the knees!
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

minerva, there are many health clubs which offer specific times for ladies only.
Many people also have pools in their own houses or farms.

nah i was just asking because in Italy, in Rimini (the most famous beach town in italy) they have a special section where muslim women can wear bikinis and designer underwear without having men around. it's an exclusive women's beach. but it's a beach, real sea water, with sand and the sun. and all the staff are women. so i was wondering if you had the same thing

I remember going to the pool in the "Ladies Day", and I found Qatari girls with T-shirts and Shorts...etc. So my friends and I were wearing the normal swimming suits....it was weird. They kept staring at us as if they were guys. It's...retarded.

For the women it includes full covering of not only the private parts as well as their adornments in a way which will not seduce or attract other people. It is mandatory to cover from the navel to just below the knees for both men and women even while in the presence of the same sex. While in the presence of the opposite sex other than your marital spouse the Hijab is to teach us to lower our gaze in order to not become lustful or shameful.

its just a tradition to hijab infront of women, or else its not necessary

A hijab becomes part of a woman's personality, that's why some wouldn't take it off.

some people are making it hard for themselves. the religion is EASY as long as the person takes it Easy... in short, there is nothing wrong with uncovering in front of your same gender! why other women "stare" at you, its not islam's fault!

---

Angel Eyes, Jumaira Beach (dubai) has a ladies-only day every week. and yeah its the sand, sea, and sun. but im not sure what day is that...

I know la.. These girls are just way too shy or something :os I mean even at school where it's all girls they wear the scarf .. and it's HOT lol..
I think it's as spirit said it becomes a part of their personality.. Maybe they don't feel like themselves if they have it off..

I usually dress moderately anyway, but to tell you the truth I feel much more comfortable covered up, I had a few incidents with women as salons and I regretted taking off my abaya.

Hmm, there's a smiliar thing here too. Once me and my cousins when to this beach somewhere in Qantab? Basically a boat takes you to this isolated place, & you ring the dude to come back in 5 hours time, or whatever. So yeah, we can still swim at the beach! :p

My cousins who are covered never wear it at gurlz gathering,
Infact its the time where the gurlz go all out and get All Dolled up ;p

Maybe that woman was havng a moment, or wasnt realizing what she was saying?

Ok here's from my perspective...

I agree with all your comments...i just don't get those women who cover infront of other women. I mean...come on!
But I have to admit something.... I myself sometimes keep on my scarf and abaya...not because I REALLY LIKE it:bored: but because of how some women react when you take it off..it makes me feel unconfortable really:os so i just keep it on...BUGSSSSSSSSS ME!

people just want an excuse to talk about something...uff..

It's sad when women cannot be comfortable around other women. Your identity is found on the inside I believe....sure there will be those who disagree with me but why use the hijab as a type of handicap in social gatherings where only women are present? Maybe the husband demands that they woman keep their hijab on for whatever reason? Men can be very jealous in some insane ways. For me it just seems a woman is more than merely what she wears on the outside.

The brain.

Women gossib .. and they would love that chance of someone became odd’ by not wearing scarf between them all .. and they started to throw the ‘ lovely comments ‘ about she is not respecting their presence and bla bla ..You can challenge that its not 3awra . but that the society build .. if u wana do what u like take ur risk.

marianna
09-08-08, 08:27 PM
WOW...for me seems like there are enough stressors in our lives without having to add on like that.

The brain.
09-08-08, 08:37 PM
Don’t worry ..not additional stresso at all.. it a small light scarf at the end.. come to Oman will give u try one..

Angel_Eyes
09-08-08, 08:39 PM
marianna, be thankful you don't live here..It takes so much energy out of you:shy: TORTURE:cry: basically it's living for others in this society..if you do this..OOOOOOH you're bad...*gossip gossip*...if you do that..OOOOOOOMMMG she/he did that? *gossip gossip*

marianna
09-08-08, 08:40 PM
It isn't that the brain (and thanks Angel Eyes for understanding what I meant) to clarify what Angel said....it is the women's attitudes against other women for not wearing hijab. I don't see the point of wearing it in front of other women. The gossip is the added stressor.

Angel_Eyes
09-08-08, 08:46 PM
^exactly!!

-----
nicobambi: I'm not kidding, i actually know women who wear it in their sleep..but then again, those are elderly women who are so used to wearing it. I guess it's part of tradition and culture now:os

We women get tired of wearing it so we wish we didnt have to be so paranoid to uncover infront of other women..we just want an excuse to take it off..ahh just so annoying..but sometimes, I am stubborn and i take it off anyways..i'm not doing anything against my religion:angel:
