When you're invited to attend a lecture about death, heaven and hell, how does it mostly strike your feelings:
- When the lecturer scares you so you can wake up and get back on track?
OR
- When the lecturer says it in a kind way to attract you into being a good muslim?
With me, scaring me works more than the nice kind attractions. Saying it nicely makes me feel that getting to Heaven is so easy and that I don't have to work hard for it. So with me, I need someone who's going to shove up the facts straight to my face!
What about you? And why?

Death shouldn't be feared but it is because we simply don't know in an intellectual way what is going to happen but in our hearts and soul....where faith reside...we should take comfort knowing that a better "life" awaits us on the other side.

Both!
I mean, with Hijab, the 'For every hair! Fire! Haram!' approach didn't work at all! Until I heard the nice part of it and got reaaally encouraged on wearing it.
But with prayer for example, hearing about that scary snake and the punishment of the grave made me stick to it. If people went: You will be blessed, you will go to Heaven ... It wouldn't have really got into me. Sometimes we need 'el3ain el 7amra' (the red eye) :p
Wasn't that the Prophet's approach :PBUH:, Basheer Wa Natheer .. both of them. Even in the Quran, verses would talk about both Heaven and the people of Heaven then about Hell and the people of Hell.
Yeah, I agree with UmKhalid. How about a bit of both, eh? :dev:
But really, I like all the facts being straightened out for me so that any decision I make will be made with full awareness of eveything. One needs to be told of all the not-so-nice things that happen to be reminded of certaint hings, but it's always beautiful & peaceful & even calming being reminded of the mercy & grace of God & all the things He has in store for us, given that we sort ourselves out right :).
I hate such lectures, never been to one and not planning to go to one.
I heard many on tapes and such.
I don't think such lectures do any good but scare the person on the spot
lectures generally make me sleep.
