Obama pledges support for Israel

Barack Obama, the US Democratic presumptive presidential nominee, has pledged to safeguard Israel's security if elected president in November.
Obama also described the US bond with Israel as "unbreakable today, unbreakable tomorrow, unbreakable for ever" and said he spoke as a "true friend" of Israel.
Hours after securing his party's nomination, Obama told the influential annual policy conference of the American Israel Public Affairs Council (Aipac) on Wednesday that rumours and suggestions he is unfriendly to Israel and to Jewish interests are unfounded.
Obama, the first African-American projected to win the presidential nomination for a major US political party, said that Jerusalem must remain the "undivided" capital of Israel.
"Jerusalem will remain the capital of Israel and it must remain undivided," the Illinois senator said.
Obama drew a standing ovation as he addressed the gathering of one of US politics' most influential lobbying groups, and said that as president "I will never compromise when it comes to Israel's security".
He also said any deal between Israelis and Palestinians should preserve Israel's identity as a Jewish state and that Hamas should be isolated.
"We must isolate Hamas unless and until they renounce terrorism, recognise Israel's right to exist, and abide by past agreements," he said.
"There is no room at the negotiating table for terrorist organisations."

I wonder .. when we will see a true independent American president who is brave enough to say no to the Jewish lobby and work only for the welfare of his people and not scared of (Aipac) ?? And who the hell is Obama to decide the fate of Palestine , Jerusalem and Hamas ?? I feel pity and sad for the biggest brain washed nation on planet Earth and their corrupt politicians .

Well, he knows he can't be president without uttering those words, so perhaps he is just being smart ;)

or ...

we are just in for another disappointment

Clever girl!

If he is elected...by no means a sure thing...you will be. But it will take a while to sink in...

But I'm curious: What would he have to do about Israel that would NOT disappoint you guys?

Very simple ! give them a homeland on American soil and leave Palestine for the Palestinians. At least they will be united and very safe and close to American Jews and to the admirers of Isreal and save the whole world the ME conflict.

I think this is the coup de grace

Jerusalem must remain the "undivided" capital of Israel.
"Jerusalem will remain the capital of Israel and it must remain undivided," the Illinois senator said.

Even *I* wouldn't go THAT far.

Nor would many Israelis. The assumption at all serious negotiations, including Camp David and Taba, has been that Jerusalem would be divided with Arab neighborhoods going to the Palestinian state and Jewish ones to Israel.

Just out of interest, is this your unalterable position on this.........i.e. you will never change this view?

I would say: You are wise.

Some things may be presented differently. But on essential points of foreign policy, there will be no real difference.

If McCain is elected, we will begin drawing down from Iraq. If Obama is elected, we will do the same... but he will label it "Something New!"

No difference: Except that Bush is more straightforward and will tell you what he really intends to do.

And...on issues social issues like gay marriage, the sexual revolution, etc., Bush is actually much closer to you.

Like i mentioned in another thread. US policy is to support Israel and every potential president will back it. Irregardless of what his own deep rooted personal beliefs are.

All I care about at the moment is that he aid in bringing America back to its feet again....we have too much internal happenings on the homefront that need our Presidential attention.

And that's the reason why Obama has to say what he says. And why America supports that policy.

Yes Obama said he will support Israel, after all Israel is a ME American state, and Americans do live in the fantasy that Israel's well-being is crucial to theirs. If America finds Israel's well-being as their well-being, thats their problem. I won't blame any probable president to say the same!

Anyhow, what really matters is that Obama also agreed to meet and talk with his counterpart Ahmadinejad, and thats great too ;)

Irregardles of what Mr. Sands says, I still would much rather live here where I can start from nothing and be anything I want irregardless of my race or religion. I still feel safe in my home, I see a wide variety of people from all races and creeds who CAN get along.

YEAHHHHHH we have our problems but what country doesn't? **** the American bashing. Tired of it.

Take that to the bank and cash it.
