Would you feel comfortable working for a company where the whole company is composed of family members?

For examples:
Manager: Father.
Manager's Personal Assistant: Mother.
The head of each department is one of their kids.
Then more kids and family members are spread around the company.

I personally feel like I am always going to be watched and if I ever wanted to say something or state a personal opinion I'd be very worried about who listens ..

So would you work for such a company or would you hunt for other options? And do you support such companies where the hierarichal structure is made up of first and second degree family members?

Blood is heavier than water! :p Therefore, if you get into a conflict, you'll always be wrong, regardless if you're truly mistaken or not. So no thanks, I'll pass on this one.

If it's a family company, then why not? So long as I won't be oppressed or disregarded just because I am family, then I would gladly work in my family's company.

Actually, I would be more keen to provide my services to my family than any other company and further their interest (which is essentially mine too).

personally i wouldn't mind working for my family , however i think they are disadvantages for example some members might disagree on something and this problem can cause the family members to hate each other.

This is 'wasta' company.

Even if there is no ‘wasta ‘ mediation ‘ .. I’m very strongly against the idea of working in accompany where it limit my views and arguments..

i don’t thin I will reach to a balance point between making the right job/work requirement decision and keeping the good family relationship..

But anyways My take on it is this..
No one would hear me out more than my family.. I personally can't see my mom or dad not taking something I say seriously, Afterall I want whats best for the company just as much as they do..

And If anything.. I can see me having it a lot easier than I would at other jobs..
Which would be something I'd dislike.. I wouldn't want it where They'll go easy on me or not give me sh!t when it's needed.. But I don't really see that happening regardless ;)

the closest thing u could find is Towel .. still not all of the staff in the admin. are from the family!

If it's a family company then I wouldn't mind. Most companies in Oman don't employ people from the same family.

My brother in law is co-owner of a construction business and my sister is the office manager. I personally could not imagine having to work with family members. That would get on my nerves after awhile.

It won't be my perfect place to work,,or let's say it's not my dream working place.

F*CK NO! That would be a nightmare for me. Not that I hate being around my famly or anything, not at all. It's just that, personally, I used to enjoy the fact, during school days, I had time at home, where I was with my family, being the daughter, older sister, younger sister, etc., & doing all the family things, & I had time at school where I could be more independent, explore things myself, be around different people, hear different views, come across different perspectives & ways of living, & basically being able to breathe a little because I could express another side of me, or let loose a little.

I wouldn't mind sharing a work environment with one or two immediate family members, but that's all. Also, I would much prefer to work with male family members than females, because with males things can easily & always be put objectively, & it is always understood that it's all strictly business, whereas with females there's almost no escape in making the situation personal or social, & bringing things up outside of work, which is something I wouldn't want to do.

Also, working with family makes it harder to put a firm line between you working like & your social life, & I know for most people they like to keep those two seperate, just to have a peace of mind, & not have to deal with problems from the two in either environment.

i know people who work for their family and they absolutely hate it because they can't leave work at 5, the same as other workers. the work takes over their life...totally. and they might get a few perks but they dont' get paid extra...it's like they are expected to put in that extra mile for the sake of the family.

Agree with minerva its true since I have seen that happening to my brothers..poor them they work continuesly no weekends, very limited holidays.... i like to stay far away from family business..

I'd personally love to work with my father, he would be willing to teach me everything he knows, and he will make sure to pass on all his experience.. But if I worked for a random manager, I won't learn from him much..etc

There was this funny episode on Roseanne where Jackie and Roseanne are co-owners of this restaurant...Jackie comes home and tells Dan their day and Roseanne comes home all excited to share the same news but finds out Jackie spilled the beans so an argument ensues (though a funny one).

I would like to have a day separate from my family where I can pick and share new things instead of everyone always knowing everything.

I would not work in a family owned company NOR a company that has all of my relatives.
Thank God that I'm the only person in my family working in the company I'm currently in now :angel:

i would LOVE to help my family if they have their own business better than letting someone else do the help while i can :)

I don't like working alongwith my family members or in family business, I would feel somehow my independence is affected.

With no offence, NAWRAS lead by example, everyone is related is someone in that organsation eventhough is not family empire and I was shocked :o

well...iam partly working in family business.....its fun :) ..as long as everything is organised and every one knows his role .... :)
