I agree, there are thousands of worthy causes.......but don't you agree such an act from an Arab is very unusual and unique......

I felt sorry most of the people there didn't know where his country was......

Not really; considering the Qatari-American relationship, I can't say I'm surprised (at his 'philanthropy').

Personal I think it is wrong thing he has done to donate $100 million.

he Emir continued by foot down the street, in contrast to his New Orleans visit, in which he was criticized for not leaving his car. He spoke with Habitat volunteers from Illinois, building two homes nearby.

http://www.sunherald.com/201/story/528746.html

He deserver to be criticized for his money. He has given to wrong people.

Maybe you dont read enough

KSA paid $500 M
Kuwait I think $500 M in cash and $400 M worth of oil
UAE $200 M
even Bahrain $5 M

Isreal and UK helped with children formula, MRE's and tents... they knew it was a compliment more than help... while the GCC it was more politics.... it wasnt really about humanity or else they would have paid to many other places...

Anyways...
Sh. Hamad was the first to go to and paid for rebuilding Lebanon after the 2005 war with Iarael, yes he is a great guy and I am a fan of his!

I like his driving around and talking to the people in the streets...

I think he is one the best arab leaders *not many of them*, what his government did for arab and Lebanon especially was outstanding and nobel.

Plus from what I read and heard from his foreign minister and omani foreign minister, I conclude that they have very special affairs with the sultanate.

So, good luck to him and Qatar.

Oh......I didn't know that.....

thank you for enlightening me.

I noticed a few years back, the Malaysian(muslim) government kicking out Indonesian(muslim) workers, just throwing them on packed boats........a woman died on the boat giving birth to a baby.

So let's not go overboard.

Nevertheless, it seems that people got a benefit out of the money and that what really matters. Weither it was a political play or not. Thanks for sharing the video.

but don't you agree such an act from an Arab is very unusual and unique......fatak

Sultan Qaboos at the end of his vacation in Italy, gave 3 million euros to a conservatory for scholarships and 2 to a pediatric department for machines
News came out only because local authorities spread them in order to show their gratitude to H.M.
H.M. will never go there to see which difference his money made, or if he goes, he will do without cameras
The director of the hospital was moved to tears because he said it will be the first time that he can buy a machine for cardio pediatric surgery with cash, without asking loans and fighting with banks [he was surprised to find the promised money on their account only 2 hours after Ambassador al Harthy asked for bank coordinates ]
Qatari Emir is a great guy, just sometimes he exagerates

Unbelievable - someone does something nice for other people (because he can and he wants to) and all most people can do is criticise him and compare him to others!

This post is about the Qatari Emir and something nice that he did - let's appreciate and enjoy his kindness and for once stop being negative and try and out do him by saying 'well, so and so did this' or 'so and so did that'. He did not have to give any money to anyone, it is his money to do what he wants with, let him enjoy it.

With reference to Gonu - ALL OUTSIDE HELP WAS REFUSED BY OMAN. People from all over the world offered and were rejected - clear up your facts before speaking detrimentally about someone.

Is not what he did, is the purpose
Most of the times he likes to put money for political aims, and this is dangerous in a GCC context
Giving big amounts to Palestinians or having put the money for the liberation of the Bulgarian nurses [this is just a rumour, not confirmed] on the long term will alienate him sympathies from the other states

I cant see the video so I cant really comment, but he has done alone for Qatar and the region. I also admire his contribution in solving the lebenese issue, where for the first time in recent arab history we managed something on our own!!

^ Oprah does not cover everything ;)

I think it is nice of him and in this specific case, the publicity is good to fix the impression people have of Middle Eastern after the terrorist attacks. So yes, he is a good leader! May we have many like him and His majesty ruling our countries.

^Oprah's probably the most racist show one can watch.
Whatever charity he did, good work.
No matter who benefits from it whether they be aliens or humans, it still makes it charity and it still makes it good.

I've seen him in person walking around with his wife and daughter several times in a popular sheesha place I often go to. They were just walking around with no body guards. Maybe the guards were hiding in the crowd...nevermind.

Without him being in control, foreigners wouldn't have their asses in Doha.. no Visiting Visa was allowed.
Without him being in control, the country wouldn't be considered one of the safest places.
Without him being in control, the country wouldn't have flourished in education and society.

and recently, Qatar helped saving Lebanon from a huge civil war.

Him and His Wife gave many scholarships to Omanis I personally know to the best universities they have. I said this replying to those Omanis who don't appreciate them. He and his wife actually gave and helped many people more than what they deserve.
you can spot him randomly like what snooky said.

We are waiting for the price of goat's milk to hit the peak.....then Nizwa is mine.....

The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani he is GooOOd Man.

But he is wrong to give $100 million.

Good to know but also other leaders in Gulf did that

No Omani here said anything against him
He must just remember that some actions must be done together with other leaders
If he wants to take the place of the father founders like Sheikh Zayed, the road is long
Scholarships are not given out of the blue, there are agreements between governments
And he has other wives anyway, am sure they are as good as Sheikha Moza
