View Full Version : Interviewing for a job
marianna 30-05-08, 04:12 PM Interviews are a necessary evil. I shall be interviewing for a possible job opportunity soon and God willing will get it.
However, I tend to get nervous so what do you guys do to deal with it? What kind of preparations do you do such as any crib notes, psyching one self out etc?
Thanks
ToomuchaT 30-05-08, 04:19 PM Try to imagine that you are the interviewer and they are the interviewee. It feels good.
marianna 30-05-08, 04:30 PM My thing is nerves. When I get nervous my brain freezes. I would just love it if they hired me off of my credentials. one thing about the feds is that it takes FOREVER to process an app......one needs the patience of a saint to get through the entire thing but I know in the end is worth it since federal jobs are great job security and have wonderful benefits.
Diabian 30-05-08, 04:36 PM imagine them in their underwear ;)
kidding :p
If u watch any talk shows.. like David Letterman or Jon Stewart.. think as the interviewer is the host .. and u r the guest.
Helps with me.. really :D
Oblivious 30-05-08, 04:37 PM Well, even though I'm student, but when I go for internships I get very nervous. So, I remember the professor telling me once that I have to think about the reasons why I believe they should pick me and not any other person. He told me to think how I come from a good uni...etc. It did help me a lot, I walk in confident (still a bit nervous, but not like I used to be).
So, just think of your strengths and you'll be fine.
Oblivious 30-05-08, 04:38 PM And oh, I forgot. DO YOUR HOMEWORK. When you feel like you're well-prepared, you'll feel much better.
If the interviewer is a male then just give him a lap dance.
Orgullo 30-05-08, 04:43 PM just go there and dont forget ur brain
in the bathroom while making ur makeup..
and just say to ur self i can do it
and i will get the jop or whatever it was for..
and just enter like entering
home sweet home :D
tip: just dont keep saying i can do it
too many times..
so if the interviewr asks u something
automatically u will say
"i can do it" :p
marianna 30-05-08, 04:50 PM HA HA...thanks guys. Good tips except for the lap dance. Don't think I want to be doing that with the panel interviewers.
Preparing yes is def. a must and just having the simple self confidence. My sister wants to buy me an Armani suit for the ocassion and I am like...NO......they don't care what I am wearing as long as I look professional. But made my heart feel all nice and cozy.
But if sister insists she is goingto buy me an Armani then this is what I want:
Hey, I just did all this and got the job in the last 3 weeks.
I did my homework, I thought about the answers they'd be expecting and went in there with so much confidence, I left wondering if I appeared TOO confident..
At one point, I asked a question relating to the job .. as if I HAD the job already.. I went 'oops' when I left.. but it went ok.
Got the job and that's where I'm writing this from. :D
And I want to say thanks to those close friends in Sabla that have been my support system through out. It really does wonders for my confidence.
(You should have seen the character reference Minerva wrote for me.. :D Love you girl! xxx)
marianna 30-05-08, 05:04 PM Thanks and many congrats Thalia.
I know how good it must feel to get back on one's feet and do something you love. :D :)
TripleTee 30-05-08, 05:20 PM that's amazing Thalia...
Marianna... know all about it... be ready for questions related and impress. that'll need confidence which i'm sure you'll get once you start talking anyway.
marianna 30-05-08, 05:22 PM I have downloaded info about my degrees and am writing something up so I can study it. The position is to assist in the dynamics and public relations of my current agency. Is more of a management position and in line with my college education. My military experience will also help due to the very nature of my agency.
I shall be doing a LOT of praying. :D
Listen2theOcean 31-05-08, 01:15 PM tablets called inderal 10mg I drink 3 tables before any big events where I am nerves and it cools me down. Read the discription before you take it.

Just think..
If YOU were the employer.. what would YOU want?
Good luck marianna. :)
marianna 31-05-08, 04:39 PM That is the mindset I am going to go into....and just research and tie in my degrees to every aspect of the job description...plus lots of prayers....
Thanks. :D
