Ok..not JUST went but we were hauled out in the hallway to wait it out for over an hour. We have experienced quite a few tornados in the Midwest these last few days.

This was taken right by my work of the tornado. Ten sirens went off when it came down.

Never seen a tornado in my life.
Move to Malta Marianna. Worst thing that could happen here is a huge wave will come and swallow us up. :hyper:

No kidding. I was out in the hallway listening to Bach on my IPOD. My building is very sturdy. Like pure concrete but we have many windows so we were taken into the hallway and all doors closed. Right before the tornado hit my computer went out and so did everyone's elses.

We have a back up generator when power goes out.

Right now trying to call my mom and daughter who are more "in" the city but so far no answer.

Welcome to Spring!

This is what it typically looks like when severe weather hits. Taken on the border of Missouri and Illinois

After a tornado goes by the sky looks like a weird green.

No kidding here are more people took with their cameras and submitted to my local station: (Tornado came at around 12:30 or so) looks like night time to me. This is the way I go home. The funnel was over the exit I take to go home.

NO WONDER I have been so cranky today!

What is weird is that we had a tornado over that place a year ago. We were all in the basement then. About 500 of us. HOT! I about died from claustrophobia.

Now we wait it out in the hallway but if it is our time a Tornado could do some serious damage. However the way our building is constructed is made of concrete and steel so it would have a jolly time trying to break us apart.

Vids and pics are awesome.

I wouldn't like to be in one, but I love watching natural disasters caught on tape. It's kinda like closure. Watching the fierce power of nature.. it makes you feel tiny.

It does make you feel tiny. I am glad that no damage was done but it got pretty darn windy here. Still not over...we have an unsettled weather pattern over us at the moment. I am suppose to see my Army Recruiter today so I HOPE this pans out and goes AWAY!

Thanks Minerva. Midwestern weather is NEVER boring. If it isn't tornados we have floods, earthquakes (which I reported on when we went through it) or blizzards.

hey, variety is the spice of life. :p

It must be scary everytime. I don't think you ever really get used to such weather.

Here, the most exciting weather we get is some hail or earth tremors. lol
Even the weather is 'laid back'.

I think the omanis can relate to it somewhat having been through Gonu though...

Thanks Riv!

I was with my teammates in the hallway and we kept our spirits up by joking around but were concerned over our families. I called my mom and daughter and they are fine. Like THANK GOD! Tornados tend to not hit big cities but rather the countryside.

I just hope that Mother nature and Father Christmas don't sleep together, having 2 mother natures won't be nice.

I want to know how it feels being inside the tornado.

I grew up with tornados all my life. The day before I graduated high school there were 11 funnel sightings. I was with my parents in town and my brother was home. He grabbed mom's camera to take a picture of a funnel cloud hovering over the cornfield across the street but no film. A neighbor was lifted from her car and into a ditch that same day. Very powerful.

Just got this email from my work. MAN that tornado was close!!!:

Just want to review yesterday's shelter-in-place (tornado) event with you all so we will be better prepared in the future. The tornado passed right over the Federal Records Center (it was captured by the security cameras).

The Prevedel bldg and the breezeway lost electricity briefly and the roof radio antennas were also affected (temporarily non-operational). By the time the funnel cloud was spotted at I-170 and Page, we received word via the emergency radios and you were being evacuated into safe areas, the tornado had already passed over us. Overall, things went well, folks remained calm and orderly during the evacuation, etc. but there are some areas that we can improve on.

1) Radio monitoring - We don't expect radio holders to carry the radios around with them all the time. Radios should remain in the office area and be monitored. It does not matter who is in a specific area when an emergency occurs. For example, if both the core manager and asst. core manager are out of the office, another responsible person evacuates all employees to a safe area, closes the door to the area and takes the radio with them to the safe area.

2) The smoking area had to be cleared 8 times yesterday during the shelter-in-place. Get the patch! In the future, the smoking area will be cleared once. Also, all floor and safety monitors are instructed to give instructions once only. If you want to have a discussion about safety procedures that should occur before or after the emergency, not during the emergency.
3) Some people wanted to exit the bldg. during the tornado. We cannot order people to remain in the bldg, but we do advise all people to remain in the bldg. during a tornado. The guard shacks are not safe areas. The guards lock the gates and they return to the main bldg. So, you won't be able to leave the compound even if you leave the bldg.
4) We should have two pockets of people who shelter in the 2nd floor of Bldg. 100 (we had one big pocket). No one should be in the vicinity of the glass breezeways. I'll get with the specific leaders to go over where to assemble on the 2nd floor.

As always, if you have any questions, pls contact me. Thanks.

Karen
