View Full Version : I will visit Oman this August.. how about meet-up in Muscat ?
World_Trekker 27-05-08, 09:19 PM Salam, hi guys. I have just booked the flights and everything.. am seriously going to Oman from August 17- 30 inshllah. ( planned for September earlier, but I changed to August )
I have a few questions.
1) How about a meet-up in Muscat ? :) Shall we meet at Bin-Ateeq in Ruwi or somewhere else ? :D How many of you could join ?
2) Is August a good time to visit Oman, particularly Muscat ? My Omani friends in Salalah didn't advice me to go during August because it is extremely hot that time. I know it's Kereef season in Dhofar, which is fantastic to visit :)
3) I will stay with my Omani friend in Salalah. However, I plan to stay 3 nights in Muscat. Is there any hotels/ youth hostels/ guest house below 5 Riyals per night in Muscat area ? I don't mind if the quality is poor. :)
4) I know this is quite direct. Do masjids allow people to sleep there at night ? ( in case I couldn't find cheap accommodation - masjids in Thailand & Singapore allow this )
Unfortunately, I'm not going to be in Oman in August. =)
But am sure that Spirit & Braiki will enjoy showing you around. They're good company.
Welcome to Muscat. I hope u'll enjoy your stay.
5 RO for a night ?!
No way in Oman you can get that .. :os
You gonna have to rise your budget a little if you wanna stay in Muscat my friend! LOL

Thanks Dante. In fact, this will be my 3rd time ; I suppose to stay with my Omani friend Khalid in Salalah, but he couldn't go with me to Muscat ( due to his job ) so I have to be myself there.

Hmm.. Well I'm a student.. I know a place in Salalah offering 8 RO per night ( but not good one ) and Tanuf Residency in Nizwa ( 10 Riyals per night )..hmm.. how come there is no cheap options in Muscat..
^ Simply because, it's Muscat. =) It's not cheap like other regions/towns.
Anyways, you can sleep in a masjid, if u can't afford a hotel's payment.
NicoBambi 28-05-08, 02:09 AM sahara apartments in al-khuwair, very cheap one.. but i'm afraid it's gonna be more than OR 5 ! :os
Unfortunately, I'll be in Europe this summer starting from July till the end of August so I can't meet you WT though it would be an honor. However, If you couldn't find a place to stay in or the one which suits your budget then I can arrange you a place, this is not a problem. Just be in contact you have my e mail.

Thaks ElRey. I will surely think about it, what a pity you won't be able to be in Oman that time !
Well, if you ever need to stay in Arlington, you can stay in my basement, no problem! :p
get a tent, lots of parks in oman, they do have toilet facilities too.
Geez!
I'm never gonna visit Oman, I guess! :p
Welcome to Oman, I'm sure someone will take care of you, Omani people are nice.
See Trekkie? You can stay with Ice Tea. Good man, Teabag, show him the meaning of Omani hospitality.
Btw Tea, are you from Al Ba6ina region originally? Just wonderin....
Superbia 28-05-08, 02:48 PM Spirit is your man ;)
welcome to Oman World Trekker! :)
World_Trekker 28-05-08, 05:20 PM Thanks guys..
Hmm.. how about a gathering ..
NicoBambi 31-05-08, 05:54 AM Stick to the topic people. It's not about Mimosa eating his hat. (share the video:XD:)
El Rey, where are you going in Europe ?
France, Italy and Swiserland in sha allah
UmKhalid 31-05-08, 03:09 PM W.trekker, you won't be able to sleep in Saeed bin Taimoor mosque because they lock the doors at 11 pm.
World_Trekker 01-06-08, 12:24 AM oh thanks UmKhalid for checking :Xd: Hmm.. maybe I will try with Zawawi ...or just sleep in the park hahha..
I can meet you at the airport, I will be wearing a grey colored T-Shirt, written English-Sabla on the front, and Markov on the back.
By the way, I wont recomment sleeping in the Mosque, try Hotel-Apartments in Al-Khuwair, they are rented on daily and weekly basis, and are quite affordable.
He is staying with Ice Tea.
BTW I've been in Oman for over a week and not a single PM. Nobody wants to have a coffee with mimo...they even got Bambocina to close the thread. *sniff*
Ice Tea, what a great guy.
Is that confirmed? Otherwise I strongly recommend Hotel Apartments.
World_Trekker 06-06-08, 11:48 AM Markov, really I will be glad ! Anyway, I changed my date from Aug 17 to September 30, and I will stay up to Oct 11 insh llah. I will celebrate Eid in Oman then.
I changed the date cos travel agency phoned me 3 days back informing that Cathay Pacific is raising fuel charge for entire August, so I shifted it to September.
Anyway, I will not arrive in Muscat, but in Dubai. From Dubai I plan to take bus straight into Muscat.
Are you Omani btw ?
UmKhalid 06-06-08, 12:30 PM Yeah I think in Zawawi they don't mind. I've seen women sleeping in the womens' prayer room. And ... ahem ... I went in for a rest myself once :p
I know this is quite direct. Do masjids allow people to sleep there at night ? ( in case I couldn't find cheap accommodation - masjids in Thailand & Singapore allow this )
I too think it's quite direct, but if I find you transforming a mosque to your accommodation, I'll report you to the police myself
Enjoy your stay, though August would have been better due to the Khareef in Salalah, we could have met there
Trekker, August and September are times to visit Salalah, not Muscat. Anyhow, since you will be in Salalah mostly, 3 days in Muscat won't be big trouble.
Inshallah we will meet once your here, I just hope nothing serious comes up from work. As for your stay, I will try finding something for you. Your trip is still far away, so take it easy ;)

Hmm were they just taking afternoon rest or spent there the whole nite ? And.. I think they cud sleep in their own house instead of masjid lol
