What "catches" your ears first, the words or the music of a song? Or is it both?

the music of the song attracts me and if I didn't like the words, I'll stop listening to the song :)

It depends for what though..

If i'm tryna dance than w.e beat that moves me is what catches me..
It could be the most nastiest or pointless lyrics. But as long as the beats got moi moving than im all for it ;p

If I'm juss tryna jamm out and listen to some good music. It's Both!
Natrually the music is what you hear first, But I concentrate on the lyrics right away and see if the msg is clear enough that I can connect with & something I can vibe too as well ;)

to me its all about the lyrics and the vocal performance
not into dance-ish music anyways :p

i love the lyrics and the melody however sometimes the melody sucks but the words are amazing and vise versa. to answer your questions i think the melody catches my ears first.

When i first hear a song, the music always catches my ears first. If i liked the music, i'll listen to the song again and focus on the words.

Example:
2 the morning

When i heard this song...i liked the music. But then when she started singing and the words...weren't that great.

when that "hump" song came out, i hated the band, i mean c'mon =/
same thing goes to Eminem
his songs used to be good, then he started singing about "bling bling" and women shaking it -.-

music attracts me at first, then I enjoy it for a while, and then focus on the words and if i really like em, the song makes it to my "Fav" playlist

Lately I've been paying more attention to the lyrics and actually care if they're good or not so yeah, but like many out there, if the music is good enough then sometimes you can just overlook the lyrics as long as they're not too corny.

Im about the same as J'adore its just all depends but for some reason nowadays im more into like the type of music u hear from Grey anatomy nice slow and the lyrics are awesome and meaningful

I think in the end it comes down to this:

Many--most--people will listen to a song that has bad lyrics but great music.

Almost no one will listen to a song that has great lyrics but bad music.

I suppose if it's rap or something which has virtually no music to listen to, the lyrics might matter more, if you can understand them.

Words then music. But sometimes, I tend to get attracted to the music, so I listen to it even though I hate the lyrics.

I would never be satisfied listening to a song and not knowing the meaning of the lyrics.. Especially if it sounds really good.. It inspires moi to make sure I find the translated lyrics THAT much more.. And I always find them! ;)

And That goes for Rap as well.. It's probably the most misunderstood genre which is why most people don't have an appreciation for it. They just assume half the garbage that's out there is what "Rap or Hip Hops" all about. And I can assure you it's not ;p hehe

I understand composed music more than lyrics, thats why I enjoy listening to instrumentals more than songs.

A blend of both.

mostly the lyrics.. but a blend of both is the best

Lyrics what touches me.. this is why I like songs done by Oud (Jalsat). It is rarly that I like a song with no meaning.
