You can find anime avatars in the net, just google anime avatars and you choose the one you want then ask one of the members here to write something you want on it and make it as a signature as well: Riv,TripleTee, Dr.Diablo and Nabhan are good in making such combos. If you haven't find the one which reflects your personality, then you can ask one of the members here to draw you an avatar according to your discription: Nabhan, Angel eyes or PIB are good in drawing.

anime as in japanese cartoons or anime as in animated?

To keep with the theme of Sabla will probably stick with Japanese anime since my daughter is in love with it. Will make me always think of her when I see mine. :D

I think changing is good, I'm not a fan of religious or political avatars.
