i strengthen my immune system and that of my kids by not resorting to antibiotics everytime we sniffle. let the body get used to germs and bacteria, and allow the body to build up the immune system to fight them.
at school, the kids who are allowed to play outside and mix with other children do not get sick. the ones who are coocooned and never allowed to mix with other kids in case 'they get a cold' spend three months out of every year locked up in the house with fever.
over strength of immune system is AIDS. Live normally. Although it would be cool to be like Wolverine!

I also don't resort to antibiotics when I get a cold. I have been seeing a lot of staph infections in the states and I read that allot of this has to do with throwing an antibiotic every time someone sneezes. The germs begin to become resistant to manmade drugs.

Actually, it is the opposite. The ID in AIDS stands for Immuno Defiency.
Over active immune system disorders would be rhumatological, like Lupus.
I only know, because I know someone with Lupus.

ok thanks everyone, but what strengthens it? some foods help with that. I myself don't like taking antibiotics. i dont bother going to the doctor. i'd rather stay at home and let my body fight it off. but there must be something that BOOSTS it. right?

But i thought getting sick and immune systems problems are two different things...u can keep getting sick if your body is full of viruses only your immune system will work if those viruses react to your body in currupting the function of the organs n stuff then immune system kicks in
correct me guys if i m wrong!
Also try to keep healthy mentally, stress can play havoc with the immune system.
They are different Sameerb, just that there are people who seem to be constantly sick with bacterial and viral infections, which means they aren't looking after themselves and eating correctly. It kind of weakens the immune response.
I suppose an immune system disease goes in two directions. It can over compensate and starts attacking the healthy body, or its deficient, like AIDS where the virus attacks certain cells required for immune response.

^ so ya...one should make their immune system as strong as they want...but normal flu n stuff are not goin to be effective with a strong immune system am i rite?
Well I think you want a quick response by the immune system. I mean everyone has probably had a cold at one stage so the antibodies are already hard coded, so to speak, by the immune system. So technically if you get a cold again, it should be less severe and the recovery time quicker, if it eventuates at all. Some immune systems work well that as soon as the antigens are recognised the antibodies work straight away and no physical symptoms appear.
